ALL of a sudden, Marcus looked up and asked, âCan you help me look into a person? His nameâs Shawn Wilson, Julieâs son.
â
Sylvia was rather confused.
Why would her boss suddenly want to investigate Julieâs family?
But as a seasoned secretary, she knew better than to ask questions.
Later that day, she placed the result of the investigation on top of Marcusâ desk, but Marcus didnât pick up the file until she left.

Meanwhile, back at the apartment, Melissa was just sitting down for breakfast.
Julie sat down with her.
âSeems like Mr.
and Mrs.
Fowler are reasonable people-especially Mrs.
Fowler.
You and Marcus havenât even reconciled yet, but they agreed to let you have full custody of Matthew in the meantime.
I think thatâs very considerate of them, donât you think?â Julie said, casting a meaningful glance in Melissaâs direction.
Melissa, on the other hand, wasnât in the mood to talk about it.
Seeing that, Julie stubbornly continued to persuade her.
âAt the end of the day, no oneâs perfect! Even if there was no money involved, women like you deserve men that treat them well.
What Iâm trying to say is that Mr.
Fowlerâs a good choice if you ever want to marry someone! Well, Iâm not saying you have to choose him, but⦠Iâm just saying that you could be more forgiving, you know? Besides, you two were both still young and impulsive when you broke up!â
Melissa wasnât really stubborn, and she knew that Julie was saying so out of genuine kindness.
âDonât worry, Julie,â she said calmly.
âIâll think about it.
â
Julie heaved a sigh of relief.
If Melissa could settle down with a good man, sheâd be really happy for her.
After all, raising a child alone was no easy feat.
As soon as she arrived at the office, Melissa felt something off about the atmosphere in the workplace.
Sure enough, one of her colleagues slapped a newspaper down on her desk as soon as she sat down and said excitedly, âLook at this, Melissa!â
Melissa frowned and picked up the newspaper.
Plastered on the front page was a photo of her and Matthew.
The sensational headline read, âBreaking news! Fowler Group president has a child out of wedlock!â
Looking at the calm expression on Melissaâs face, the coworker tried to stir the pot and said in a low voice, âEveryone in Duefron knows about your relationship with the Fowler Group CEO.
Why wonât you just marry him?â
Melissa smiled faintly and scoffed, âAre you kidding me? No one should rush into something as serious as marriage!â
Since she wasnât able to get a reaction out of Melissa, the coworker could only leave in embarrassment.
Now that she was alone, Melissa picked up the newspaper and skimmed through it intently.
It went without saying that this wasnât the only paper that published such groundbreaking news; by now, it was probably all over social media.
This was probably what Marcus meant when he declared that he didnât want Matthew to be known to others as fatherless.
Still, she couldnât believe he actually went and announced this to the public.
Melissa was rather annoyed, but she didnât want to call and confront Marcus because of this; otherwise, she might come across as a close-minded person!
