After the meal, Jessie felt a lot better.
She had a knack for bouncing back from sadness in a short time.
Melissa felt relieved.
As they stepped out of the restaurant, Marcus was waiting in the car for them.
Jessie glanced at him and asked, âHow long have you been waiting?â
Marcus lowered the window.
His handsome face remained cool and his tone was indifferent.
âAbout thirty minutes.
But Melissa said you needed space, so I didnât bother you.
â
Jessie remarked, âYouâre quite the gentleman.
â
âPlease! Donât state the obvious!â
Marcus and Melissa offered to drive Jessie home, but she declined.
âIâll grab a taxi.
Melissa needs to rest since sheâs pregnant.
â
She pulled out a box from her bag and said, âHereâs a little something for the baby-to-be! I want to be the godmother, alright?!â
Instead of turning it down, Melissa accepted it with a smile.
âYou better tie the knot before you can take on that role for my baby.
Saving us the time finding a godfather altogether.
â
Jessie scrunched up her face.
Meanwhile, Marcus grinned.
He held the door open for Melissa to hop in.
After she was settled, he strolled back to the driverâs seat.
Instead of driving off, he watched Jessie climb into the taxi and quipped, âHaving her as the godmother isnât such a bad idea!â
âWhyâs that?â Melissa inquired.
Slouching in his seat, Marcus turned to her and explained, âThink about it! If sheâs our kidâs godmother, and her future husband will be the godfather⦠And I bet Albertâs the one sheâll end up with.
Then, Albertâs going to be on our level, and my folks will be his elders⦠Our family gatherings would be quite the spectacle!â
Melissa gazed at him silently.
After a moment, she leaned in, cupped his face in her hands, planted a ki*s on his lips, and murmured, âYouâre such a troublemaker! Marcus, remember when you used to tease me like this? Howâd I end up falling for you back then? When I was your secretary, I didnât have to do house chores for you! But I still waited on you hand and foot.
I mustâve been out of my mind.
â
Marcus was feeling pretty good about himself.
He leaned in and planted a ki*s on her cheek, grinning.
âThat means you had a crush on me back then!â
Melissa didnât deny it.
âYes! I did kind of like you back then.
â
Marcus teased, âWell, Iâll let it slide this time for crushing on me for so long.
Oh, by the way, Iâm starving.
Letâs grab a bite.
