Grinning, Marcus said, âFinally, theyâre gone! It got on my nerves seeing them smother our daughter like that.
â
Melissa chuckled at his remark.
âI guess you had better keep her indoors then.
â
Marcus peered down at the wrinkled baby girl.
She might not be the prettiest yet, being just two days old but, to him, she was gorgeous.
Then, with a soft laugh, he said to the baby, âIf I ever lock someone up, itâll be your beautiful mom, not you, Kiana.
Youâre still too young and need to see the worldâs beauty.
â
Melissa, with a smile, teased, âQuit being such a kid, Marcus!â
Gazing at her, he replied seriously, âIâve actually considered that.
â
Melissa whispered, âIâm not going anywhere, Marcus.
I promise.
â
He grinned, gazing at their little girl, Kiana Fowler, and vowed, âIf your mom even thinks of leaving again, Iâll give her a reason to stay, like breaking her legs.
â
âBut what good will that do? I wonât be able to take care of myself.
Will you still want me then?â
âIâll always take care of you!â
âMarcus, youâre such a weirdo!â
As they chatted, the door creaked open, and in walked Albert.
Albert, always holding a grudge against Marcus, sneered.
âLooks Like having a baby hasnât worn you two out.
Still got energy to bicker.
But I have to admit, your love dramaâs next-level! Threatening to break her leg so she wonât leave⦠Millennials and their complicated love lives!â
Melissa blushed at his words.
Unfazed, Marcus rose, accepting the gift from Albert.
With a grin, he retorted, âMr.
Waston, your love lifeâs quite the spectacle too.
Your wifeâs got her side thing, yet sheâs still devoted to you!â
Albert was left speechless.
Marcus could always be so mean and even out-sass his dad, Waylen.
Turning to Melissa, Marcus said seriously, âSince your boss is here, you chat with him.
Iâll grab coffee for him.
â
Melissa grinned softly, saying, âSure thing, but no sugar in his coffee, okay?â
Marcus grinned back, replying, âYes, madam.
â
Once Marcus left, Albert peered at the baby girl and grumbled, âWhen did he start being so generous? He used to eye me like I was always ready to steal you away.
â
Melissa just smiled.
