Axell pleaded, âCan we talk, please?â
Jessie knew he wouldnât give up, so she shut the door.
She faced him squarely.
âWeâre from different worlds, Axell! You aim for success and climbing up the social ladder but I just want a simple life.
Last night you wanted to end things, now youâve changed your mind? Maybe you think you care about me, but if you did, you wouldnât want to break up in the first place.
If I forgive you today, who knows if youâll change your mind again one day?
Will you reject that woman?
You wonât! Youâll convince yourself you had no choice.
Youâre not cheating; you just canât say no.
â
With a solemn expression Axell murmured, âSheâs the directorâs daughter, Jessie.
I canâtââ
Jessie remained calm.
âI get it.
But I canât accept it.
â
âLoveâs a two-way street,â she insisted.
She had made up her mind to break up with him.
With a faint smile, she recounted the mall drama.
âOur parents clashed, Axell.
Itâs done.
â
Thinking sheâd been clear, she turned to get in her car.
Then came a cold voice from behind.
âJessie, are you sure itâs not about Albert? Heâs loaded and willing to drop a billion in the hospital just to separate us.
True love, huh? Youâre swept off your feet, right?â
Jessie tensed.
After a pause, she replied softly, âLetâs keep it civil, Axell.
Thereâs no need to blame someone else entirely.
Werenât you ready to bail because of his cash last night? You just regret it now.
â
Jessie realized Axell really wasnât her match.
She hopped in her car, buckled up, and drove off, feeling a pang at their parting, worsened by their sour split.
Heading home, she sat in her car for a spell, lost in thought even after stepping out.
Unaware, she approached the apartment building.
Suddenly, a figure lurked in the shadows.
Startled, she was pulled into a tight embrace.
She tried to protest, but he silenced her with a ki*s which was hungry and fervent.
Recognizing his scent of tobacco, she pushed him away, anger and shyness mingling within her.
Albert stumbled back, wary of her safety near his lit cigarette, which he promptly stubbed out.
