Just as she turned toward the door, Albert suddenly said, âDonât tell me youâre going to leave without inquiring about Axell.
He kidnapped and tortured Jeslyn and also stabbed me in the abdomen with a knife.
I have enough evidence to put him behind bars for at least ten years.
Arenât you going to ask about him and beg me to have mercy on him?â
Jessie, her back still turned against him, said nothing for a while.
With a sigh, she finally turned around and said, âWell, you have my attention; tell me what you are going to do to him.
â
True to his nature as a cunning businessman, Albert didnât reply to her question but instead asked, âWould your view of me be affected based on what I do to him? If I decide to throw him to jail for, say ten years, you wonât feel heartbroken for him, right?â
Seeing Albert as being hypocritical, Jessie sneered at him.
âJust tell me what you want from me! Do you want me to plead for him or not?â
Albert smiled softly and replied, âIsnât it obvious, Jessie? Iâd hate it if you had uttered even just a single word in his favor.
In fact, if you dare to, then I can promise you that heâs going to suffer more for what he did.
And Iâm sure you know very well that Iâm not the forgiving type.
â
Jessie squeezed her fists and lowered her head.
Albert knew her so well, that it almost felt like he could read her mind.
He had expertly shut down anything that she could have said and rendered her completely speechless.
She turned toward the door again and was about to walk away when Albert whispered, âYou canât leave just like that, Jessie.
â
With a raised eyebrow, Jessie turned around and looked at him.
It was at that moment that everything clicked in her mind.
Everything that Albert had been doing was simply to force her back to him.
Gritting her teeth, she walked up to him and said angrily, âYouâre out of your mind, Albert!â
With a chuckle, Albert nodded smugly and replied, âOf course, I am.
I donât have any more time to sacrifice waiting for you to warm up to me, Jessie.
In case you havenât noticed, Iâm getting older by the day.
Besides, Axell got himself into this situation and I had no part in this.
â
Albert then sighed deeply, grabbed Jessieâs hand, and continued gently, âThese days, my mind has been filled with memories from our time together that day.
â
After being patient for so long, he was now simply incapable of holding back anymore.
Upon hearing Albertâs words, Jessie felt a surge of emotions welling up, threatening to spill over in tears.
With great effort, she stifled them and croaked out, âAlbert, donât you think itâs a tad late for this?â
Uncertain whether it was truly late, Albert was only certain of one thing- he couldnât bear to see her leave.
As Albert had claimed, Jessieâs departure was out of the question.
As she cracked open the wardâs door, she was met by a line of black-clad bodyguards, the leading one respectfully informing her, âMiss Green, Iâm afraid you canât leave without Mr.
Wastonâs approval.
â
Fuming with anger, Jessie slammed the door shut, pivoting to face Albert.
âWhatâs the meaning of this?â
Despite having undergone surgery and being in a weakened state, Albert resisted the urge to sleep.
His lips pallid, he managed a smile and beckoned to her, âIf you want answers, come closer.
Iâll tell you.
â
Injured as he was, Jessie harbored no fear of Albert acting rashly.
