He understood Alexis couldnât simply erase their shared history, but she still wanted to move on.
Essentially, she didnât want him anymore.
Without sending further texts, Leonel lingered in silence before eventually departing into the night.
The next morning, as Alexis descended the stairs early on, she noticed Evelyn and Daniel were nowhere to be seen.
Waylen poured himself a glass of coffee, his smile subdued.
âLeonel came to pick up the kids this morning.
He mentioned heâd bring them back later.
â
Alexis nodded quietly, absorbing the news.
Seeing her reaction, Waylen changed the subject.
âYour mother plans to attend church after breakfast.
Why not join her for some fresh air?â
Though hesitant about church visits, Alexis, feeling bored, reluctantly agreed.
But before she could leave, a call came from Leonel, reporting that Daniel had fallen ill suddenly and was now in the hospital.
Without a momentâs delay, Waylen grabbed his coat.
âYour mother and I will head to the hospital straight away.
â
Upon hearing the news, Alexis clung to Waylenâs arm, her voice tinged with worry.
âIâll come with you.
â
Waylen nodded after a moment.
âSure.
Weâll go together.
â
As they hurried to the hospital, Danielâs condition seemed worse than expected.
The young boy battled a high fever, his words jumbled in delirium.
Though he spoke, his words made little sense.
Leonel tended to Daniel personally, with Evelyn lending a hand.
Perched on the edge of the ward, Alexis watched Danielâs flushed face, a pang of sympathy washing over her.
Daniel had always been healthy.
How could he suddenly fall ill?
âThe doctor says heâs got a cold,â
Leonel explained, adjusting the IV drip while keeping an eye on Daniel.
In that moment, concerns about romance faded into the background.
As parents, both Alexis and Leonel placed their children above all else.
For a moment, Alexis stopped caressing Danielâs face.
Considering the events of the previous night, she asked softly, âWhen did you leave last night?â
Although caught off guard by her sudden question, Leonel replied honestly, âAround one in the morning.
Why do you ask?â
Alexis didnât answer directly.
Instead, she reached out to touch Danielâs forehead and said nothing.
She understood why Daniel was unwell.
The boy must have slipped out of bed last night to secretly observe Leonel.
His feelings toward his father were complex-he loved him, yet harbored resentment for what heâd done to Alexis.
