Be good, Daniel.
Iâll swing by in the morning.
â
Daniel didnât want Leonel to leave.
But he played it cool, just nodding as Leonel bid farewell.
As Leonel headed out, he stole a glance at Alexis.
He didnât expect her to walk him out.
He just wanted to look at her, and Alexis happened to turn and meet his gaze.
Their eye contact lingered.
It was a bit awkward.
Leonel swallowed nervously, but then just left, closing the door behind him.
In his absence, silence filled the room.
No one wanted to unsettle Alexis.
By dusk, with Daniel bouncing back, Waylen and Rena breathed easier.
They urged Alexis to head home and get some rest.
Putting on her coat, Alexis prepared to bid Daniel farewellâ¦
Just then, Waylen got a call from Juliette, who urgently requested his return home as Korbyn wasnât feeling well.
Julietteâs panicked voice carried through, audible to Alexis.
Taking off her coat, Alexis suggested, âYou two head back for Grandpa.
Iâll stay and watch over Daniel.
â
Waylen hesitated at first.
Understanding his concern, Alexis reassured, âIâve sorted things out with him.
Donât fret.
â
Concerned for his father, Waylen nodded eventually, leaving with Rena.
Alone with Daniel in the ward, Alexis tended to him.
As dinner approached, Daniel piped up that he was craving dumplings.
âMom, can we have dumplings with chopped leek filling?â he asked.
Seeing him in pain all day, Alexis wanted to cheer him up.
She called the butler, requesting handmade leek dumplings for delivery to the hospital.
The butler agreed readily.
But after hanging up, he faced a dilemma.
The staff were off for the holiday and he himself didnât cook.
How would he find someone to make those dumplings?!
