When they were finally on their way to Leonelâs place, Alexis couldnât help but tease Daniel.
At first, Daniel felt embarrassed and annoyed, but when he saw the expression on Alexisâ face, his feelings changed.
She looked really confident and energetic.
He felt no other mother could be as excellent as his was, and he couldnât help but feel very proud of her.
As far as he was concerned, he was lucky to have such a wonderful mother.
Since she was in a good mood, it made him feel happy, and he was even willing to forgive Leonel, at least for this moment.
An hour later, they arrived at the villa where Leonel lived.
After parking the car, Alexis got out.
The place looked the same as it had always been.
She could see the maple trees in the back yard.
Since it was spring, their leaves were quite green.
Meanwhile, Evelyn and Daniel also got down from the car, but they didnât go directly into the house.
Instead, they stood outside in silence.
Alexis carried Cordelia out of the car while the nanny carried the baby things.
âWhy donât you guys go in?â Alexis asked the children.
âIt seems Daddy isnât at home,â Daniel pointed out.
But heâd hardly finished the sentence when Noreen walked out of the villa.
Leonel had asked Noreen to stay in the villa.
Since his domestic staff were not as flexible as Noreen, he was worried that they might spill the beans.
As a matter of fact, Noreen and Alexis hadnât seen each other for a long while.
Seeing Alexis again after so long, Noreen became quite emotional.
Tears welled up in her eyes, but she tried her best to hold them back.
âWelcome back, Miss Fowler,â she said hurriedly.
âMr.
Douglas drank too much last night, so he had another gout attack.
Heâs now in the bedroom, restingâ¦â
She wanted to say more, but she changed her mind and kept quiet.
âI see.
Iâll help the kids settle in, and then I have a flight to catch,â Alexis replied.
Apparently, Alexis had misunderstood her, but it was not easy for Noreen to clarify what she meant.
All she could do was watch as Alexis took Cordeliaâs stuff and entered the house with the other children.
Stepping into the house again after a long absence, Alexis couldnât help but have mixed feelings.
The last time she came here, she and Leonel had a dispute.
Even though it felt like it was yesterday, that unpleasant experience had actually happened a long time ago.
Nevertheless, she brushed all these thoughts from her mind and calmly went upstairs.
One of the domestic staff saw her and greeted her, addressing her as Mrs.
Douglas.
âJust call me Miss Fowler,â Alexis corrected her with a faint smile.
âOh, Iâm sorry, maâam,â the young woman gasped.
âI⦠it was an innocent mistake.
â
Noreen also intervened on her behalf.
âMiss Fowler, please donât be mad at her,â she begged.
âThese people have been working in the house for many years, so theyâre used to calling you by that title.
â
