Opening her eyes, she realized she was in Leonelâs villa.
Memories of the previous night flooded back to her.
She had been feverish, and Leonel had tended to her, wiping her body and even ki*sing her.
Despite being in a semi-comatose state, Alexis remained conscious.
She could vividly recall the sensations and the pulsing of her body.
She remembered clutching his neck and pleading with him.
As she pondered, a knock at the door interrupted her thoughts.
âMrs.
Douglas, are you awake? Mr.
Douglas called and asked me to check on you,â the servant announced.
âDid Leonel go to the company?â she wondered to herself.
âCome in,â Alexis said, lowering her head.
The servant entered, carrying a paper bag.
With a smile, she announced, âMiss Rivera returned to Duefron early this morning and brought these clothes for you.
Try them on and see if they fit.
â
Knowing Noreen had selected them, Alexis was confident they would suit her.
âThank you.
Please prepare breakfast for me.
Iâll shower and then have a bite,â Alexis replied with a smile.
The servant beamed.
âBreakfast has been prepared early-itâs warm and nutritious.
Mr.
Douglas insisted on it this morning and discussed it at Length.
â
Alexisâ smile faltered.
What was the point of such a lengthy discussion? She would only be here for this one meal, after all.
Last nightâs incident was an accident, and Alexis didnât dwell on it for too long.
If Leonel had changed his mind, he wouldnât have left early this morning but would have stayed with her.
After showering and changing her clothes, Alexis examined the small cuts on her arm for a long time.
She went downstairs to have breakfast, where the servant continued talking, clearly hoping for Alexis and Leonel to reconcile.
Alexis listened quietly until she finished the last mouthful of milk.
âThank you for last night, and please convey my gratitude to Leonel as well.
Also, please refrain from addressing me as Mrs.
Douglas from now on.
â
Alexis glanced at her bare ring finger and smiled.
âIâm single now.
â
The servant was taken aback.
She believed they had reconciled last night, and she had heard the moans.
Why was Alexis saying they didnât now?
After breakfast, Alexis left.
