The method Alexis used was unclear to Leonel, but it led to about 20 students either dropping out or transferring in just one day.
On Monday morning, Leonelâs phone was overwhelmed with calls.
The principal and parents voiced their complaints, urging Leonel to speak with Alexis.
Although Leonel felt Alexis might have overreacted, he publicly supported her, politely declining to intervene as requested by the parents.
Yet, the issue persisted.
After finishing the last call, Leonel dialed Alexisâ number.
She answered promptly, her voice brimming with cheer.
âItâs only ten in the morning, Mr.
Douglas.
Donât you have anything else to do? Is the company going under?â
Leonel chuckled as he lightly scolded her.
He then inquired about the situation with those children from their kidsâ school, but Alexis responded vaguely that he neednât worry about it.
She mentioned she was heading into a meeting.
Leonel was both amused and slightly irritated when he ended the call, but he knew Alexis had done it on purpose.
He actually appreciated her fierce nature.
That Monday morning found Leonel momentarily distracted in his office.
Noreen entered and reminded him of his meeting.
Leonel stood, his figure outlined sharply by the sunlight streaming through the window.
He was still thinking about Alexis.
He decided to leave work early at three oâclock in the afternoon.
Instead of going home, he headed to Alexisâ law firm.
It turned out Alexis was busier than he had anticipated, having met with two clients back-to-back.
By the time she finished and went back to her office, an hour had passed.
Alexis opened the door and entered.
Leonel was seated on the sofa, browsing through a magazine.
His attire was notably sharp.
He was, perhaps, a bit overdressed.
Standing at the doorway, Alexis playfully rolled up the document she was holding and smiled.
âMr.
Douglas, youâre looking particularly dashing today.
â
Leonel looked up from his magazine and set it aside.
âHave you finished your work?â
Alexis walked in and closed the door.
âFor now, yes.
â
She poured herself a glass of water and turned to face him.
After a pause, she queried, âYouâre here about those parents and students? I explained the situation, and they seemed quite pleased to transfer or leave.
Why then did they complain about me to you the next second?â
Leonel stood and approached Alexis, concerned the water might be too hot.
Gently, he took the glass from her hand, wrapped an arm around her waist, and whispered close to her neck, âItâs not a big deal, Alexis.
Sometimes itâs also about letting go.
â
Alexis remained silent.
