Despite years of marriage, he still treated her like a child.
Sometimes he was too overbearing, but she was tender-hearted and had grown accustomed to it.
It was early spring, and the night air was chilly.
Edwin entered the police station and shrugged off his overcoat, casting a sneer at the others.
âJealousy got the better of you, and you started a fight,â he said.
Looking directly at Raphael, Edwin continued, âIf youâre going to pick a fight, you better have a solid reason.
Mr.
Jones, didnât you break up with my sister ages ago? What, sheâs not allowed to date someone new? Has she somehow indebted your family?â
His words were true and cutting, leaving Raphael at a loss for words.
However, Edwin knew when to stop pressing.
It was known that Raphael and Olivia had a history.
If Raphael couldnât let go and kept making Oliviaâs life difficult, how was she supposed to move on? Eventually, Olivia would marry someone.

Resolute, Edwin signed the papers to bail them out.
He turned to Olivia, âTake Dylan and take a taxi.
Your sister-in-lawâs waiting for me in my car.
â
âOkay,â Olivia replied and left with Dylan.
That left just Raphael and Sharon behind.
Edwin lowered his head and lit a cigarette.
After inhaling deeply, he exhaled a stream of smoke rings, and then looked up at Raphael.
âMr.
Jones, could we talk for a moment? Your secretary is here, and I doubt sheâll appreciate what I have to say.
â
Raphael glanced at Sharon, who quietly left the room, careful not to upset Edwin.
With no one else around, Edwin paced back and forth before stopping to said bluntly, âYou know, before our trip to the island for Leonelâs wedding, I really hoped youâd make up your mind and treat Olivia well.
She was quite fond of you.
But something happened on the island, and suddenly, she was in Dylanâs arms.
Raphael, did you know sheâs known Dylan for many years? If it werenât for you, they might have gotten together eight years sooner.
They could have had a family by now.
â
âYes, my father had dealings with your father, but was he wrong? He was just doing his job.
And Olivia, was she wrong? She met you and fell for you without knowing anything.
Whatâs so bad about her ending things? Are you really worth her holding on?â
âNow, both you and my sister have moved on.
â
âSo leave her be.
If youâre still upset with what my father had done to yours, Iâm here.
Confront me and leave my sister alone.
Iâll wait for you.
â
Lifting his head slightly, Raphael asked, âEdwin, youâve said so much, but am I really to blame?â
Edwin offered a slight smile.
âNo, but you donât love Olivia enough.
If you truly loved her, you wouldnât have shattered her heart after reuniting with her, nor would you have driven your relationship into a corner.
â
He sighed.
âYou had your chances to be with her, but you let them slip by, time after time.
Raphael, perhaps you donât understand what kind of person my sister is.
If you had just spoken to her properly before heading to the island, things might have turned out differently.
But all you think about is your pride and your unfortunate past.
Who isnât afflicted by lifeâs hardships? Even I spent the first four years of my life alone with my mother, struggling to even survive.
And who should I blame for that?â
With that, Edwin crushed his cigarette and walked away.
Raphael remained standing there, alone, for a long while.
Outside, Edwin opened the car door and tossed his coat to his wife.
Laura frowned slightly.
âIt smells like smoke.
