Chapter 105
RAINE
Finally, we found ourselves outside in the glaring sunlight, leaving the gloom of the cave for a lush. green meadow
âWe still have a lot of ground to cover before dark.â Balor looked up into the azure sky. âBest get moving.
âItâs too quiet.â The blonde dwarf said and unsheathed his sword. âIt feels like weâre walking into a trap.â
Balor grinned at him. âNothing we canât handle. If youâre too scared to go further, Daxon, you can return to the women.â
The one he called Daxon growled and saluted Balor with his middle finger, getting a chuckle from the rest.
Pippa stayed alert, peering nervously around us, âI canât believe Quindin hasnât sent someone after
us.â
âOr come for you himself.â Balor added to her worried words.
âHe still might.â I wouldnât underestimate him. âCanât you open a portal for us, Pippa?â
Pippa shook her head sadly. âIâm afraid I cannot. Only the elder witches and Quindin, of course, can execute portals. I am just a neophyte.â
Daxon let out a sharp exhale through his nose, a clear sign of his disgust. âSo actually youâre useless
to us.â
I turned on him growling, âPippa is not useless!â
âShe had enough magic to blow that overgrown pigeon out of the air.â Another dwarf came to her defense.
âSpeaking ofâ¦â Balor lifted a fist in the air. âLook!â
Everyone looked up. The sky darkened with the shape of winged creatures. They were getting
closer.
âWhat is that?â I wasnât sure I could believe my eyes.
âDragons!â Pippa screamed. âThat is the Dragon Lord!â
â flying lizards! Hate the damn things.â Balor shouted, âReady yourselves, men!â
A Silver dragon swooped down, landing at a suitable distance from us. Balor and his men formed at

protective stance in front of Pippa and me.
âLet us have the queen and we will leave you in peace.â The Dragon Lordâs voice rang out across the meadow. âWe have no quarrel with you.
âI donât think so!â Balor snarled back at him. âWhat is your business with the queen?â
âWe will take her back to her kingdom.â
âAnd I was born yesterday!â Balor shouted back.
I watched as the dragon soldiers hovered above their lord, waiting for a signal to attack. A green dragon descended next to the silver one and who was on its back? None other than Sorin and Helen!
âRaine! Come with us now!â he demanded, righting himself on the back of the creature.
âYou do no such thing.â Balor snarled at me; his steelâgray eyes boring into mine. âWe donât intimidate easily.â
Neither did I. Already, I felt the power surging through my body. Like Joanna instructed me, I envisioned in my mind what I would like to do to them. my head.
nihilate them. A voice in screamed at me. Whether it was Tasha or something else, I wasnât sure.
Sorin descended from the green dragon under protest from Helen. âRaine, letâs discuss this. Amarist needs vo
you. I want to take you to him.â
âHe speaks with the tongue of a snake!â Balor grunted, waving his battle axe at Sorin. âHe will kill you as soon as look at you.â
As if I didnât know. âI have to decline your generous offer, Sorin.â My breathing increased and with every breath I felt the magic growing stronger, wanting out, needing an outlet.
The wind became stronger, colder, and swirled over the grasses, picking up speed as it came barreling down on us. I looked at Pippa and she looked at me.
âIt isnât me,â she said.
And it wasnât me either. Quindin! I would rather take my chances with Sorin than go back with Quindin.
As the wind morphed into a gray column resembling a tornado, Quindin stepped out of it and stood between us and the dragons Was he really there or only an illusion of him, as he so loved creating them?
I felt Pippa shudder next to me
âI wonât go back.â I told her.
âWe canât fight Quindin.â Pippa whispered fearfully.

âI wonât let you touch my daughter.â Quindinâs voice held all the authority of his status as High Magus.
âWe are at war with the werewolf kingdom, Magus. This is not your fight. Prince Sorin is the rightful heir, and we have sworn allegiance to him. We need your daughter to convince Amaris Black to step down from the throne.â The Dragon Lord stepped down from the silver dragon to join Sorin.
âWe will not harm her, Magus.â Sorin held his soft hands away from his body in supplication. The fake smile plastered on his face did nothing to fool me.
Balor snorted in unbelief.
âI am returning to Amaris, but not with you!â I spat at them. âQuindin, help us. Please. If you feel anything for me or this unborn child, you will open a portal to help me return to Amaris.â I stepped. forward with a whimpering Pippa clutching at my arm.
The man that called himself my father turned to me with the hint of a smile. âYou fooled me, Raine. Well done. Itâs not many that can say that.â
âThis is our last warning, old friend.â The Dragon Lord, an impressive figure dressed in battle attire, approached us. His haughty beauty, accentuated by the gleam in his golden eyes, seemed to sparkle
like the sun.
âYou know I hate being threatened, Fintan.â He said with a smile that reached his eyes and formed tiny wrinkles at the edges. From what I know of Quindin, I took it as a sign of impending doom. âA pity to end a lifelong friendship like this.â
âQuindin, donât be naïve. Amaris will destroy us all, given the opportunity.â Fintanâs over my body while speaking to Quindin. âAll because of this slip of a girl.â
ves flitted eyes
Quindin chuckled, âYou underestimate my daughter, Fintan. But I think you know that, and you are more afraid of her than Amaris. The only reason you want Sorin on the throne is because you can easily control your little pawn. And not to mention, you want control of their mines and other resources.â He shook his head, that eerie smile still in place. âSo transparent.â
âI donât know what you are talking about.â Fintanâs eyes turned to slits and his skin shimmered. He was about to transform. âBut enough. Give us the girl or we will take her by force.â
He had scarcely uttered those words when Quindin stretched out his left hand. âMakpiingajuq Tulaktarvik!â As he mumbled the incantation, the atmosphere tore open in front of my eyes. I could see the mountain road and in the distance the castle.
âGo! Now!â he snarled at me. âDonât look back!â
I grabbed Pippa and ran. The portal snapped closed behind us
