Chapter 35
It was not easy for me to disregard or disobey an order. From anyone, let alone the king. It was part of written into my DNA to be submissive â a good little Omega. But I was the queen now.
Amaris said it himself, âYou donât take orders from anyone, Raine. You are the queen.â
y nature.
So I decided to ignore his order to stay away from the captive Luna. According to Rhona, the Luna was heavily
pregnant. She was about to deliver any day now and she was in a state, crying for her mate. It wasnât difficult to imagine the pain she was experiencing, being in a less than friendly environment with her Alpha locked up in the keep.
I waited until Amaris left to go about his business. What it was exactly, I didnât know and rather didnât ask. Betal Ross hovered about, my constant guard dog. I was not allowed to leave our wing, but I had other plans.
âRhona, I need you to distract Beta Ross. I want to go to the Luna of the Blood Fang pack.â
âMilady! The king gave ordersâ¦â
âAnd I am giving you this order. I have to go to her.â I stood my ground, hands on my hips. There was no way was to be stopped.
Rhona smirked and bowed her head slightly. âAs you wish, your Majesty.â

I stood by the door, peeking out as Rhona went towards Beta Ross. He was looking especially bored, scrolling through his phone and didnât even acknowledge her presence. Earlier I had told him I didnât need his instruction today as I was still busy reading the book, he gave me.
âBeta Ross, Iâm so sorry to disturb you, but I need your help.â Rhona asked in a helpless little-girl-lost voice. I could barely contain my laughter. She had the helpless she-wolf down to a T, batting her long lashes at him and wringing her hands. Who could resist?
âWhat is it now, Omega?â Beta Ross sighed and put his phone back in his pocket.
âHer Majesty requested me to make her a pie and Iâm afraid I cannot reach the dishes I need. And seeing as you are so tall, Beta Ross, could you do me this favor?â She looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes.
He grunted, âAre there no ladders in this place?â

âIt will only take a minute, Beta Ross.â
As soon as he followed her down the hallway, I sprinted out the bedroom in the opposite direction.
It wasnât difficult to locate the Luna, I just followed the sounds of helpless crying and pleading. There were two guards at her door which barred my way.
âMove!â I said in the sternest voice I could muster. âUnlock this door and let me in.â They would probably use the- mind link to inform Amaris, but I had to take my chances.
âYour Majesty, the kingâ¦â one guard tried to stop me, but I held up my hand to silence him.
âGuard, do not test me!â Something I learned from Amaris. âOpen this door immediately.â
He had no choice but to obey.
As the door closed, I saw a heavily pregnant blonde girl, not much older than myself, huddled in a corner. She clutched her belly, groaning, sweat dripping from her contorted brow.
âAre you in labor?â I approached her carefully.
Green eyes flooded with tears looked up at me. âWhoâ¦who are you?â She ground her teeth together, biting back
a scream.
âI am Queen Raine, King Amarisâ mate.â I held my hand out to her. âLet me help you.â
The hand that gripped mine was small but strong. I helped her to the bed.
âI need my mate!â She screamed when another contraction gripped her, forcing her to double over. She pressed my hand so hard I felt the bones cracking. âPlease, Iâm begging you!â
âRhona, call the others. Bring towels and boiled water. Get Healer Gwyneth.â I yelled out orders into the link.
The door burst open, and I turned my face to look into the furious scowl of my mate.
âShe needs her mate, Amaris.â I said before he could open his mouth to yell at me. âPlease.â

I held the screaming girlâs hand despite the pain I felt. âShh⦠Itâs going to be alright. Heâll be here. Just hold on.â I smiled into her painfilled face. âEverything will be fine.â I looked back at Amaris who had closed his eyes, linking someone.
âI ordered him to be brought up.â Amaris spoke up, but the cold stare he gave me, and the way the muscles in his jaw ticked, I knew I was in deep trouble.
âThank you, my lord.â I gave a tremulous smile.
âHe will surely punish us, Raine. You shouldnât have done this.â Tasha wailed in my head.
âAnd leave this girl to suffer or die and her pup with her?â I would rather take his punishment than let that happen.
The blonde Luna gripped my hands in both of her and smiled at me through her pain. âThank you, your Majesty. I will never forget your kindness.â
âDaciana!â The Alpha was shoved into the bedroom, his hands shackled with silver cuffs behind his back. Closely following him, Healer Gwyneth and my maids entered the room.
I drew back from the Luna to give them space.
âCan you at least free his hands?â I asked a stone-faced Amaris.
âRelease him!â he gave the order. âGuard the door. No one is to enter. If my orders are disobeyed again, I will have your heads.â His grip on my arm had me gasping as he dragged me out of the room and stomped down the hallway back to our wing. My feet struggled to keep up with his long strides and I stumbled.
Wordlessly he lifted me over his shoulder. We passed Beta Ross on the way. He stopped in front of him with me hanging over his shoulder.
âOne task, Ross. One.â He shoved Ross against the wall. Something came crashing down from the wall behind him. âI gave you one task to look after Raine and keep her safe.â
âIâm sorry, your Majesty. I thought I was to instruct her Majesty, not keep her prisoner.â Beta Ross retorted and I cringed inwardly.
âIf that is what it takes, Ross.â He brushed past him, to our suite and went to the office where he put me down and closed the door.

âQuiet!â His voice lashed over me, and I couldnât help but cower from the power of it. âYou disobeyed me, Raine and overruled my orders in front of my guards. I will not tolerate such behavior, not even from you.â
I would rather take lashings than see the look of disappointment and anger on his face.
âIâm sorry, Amaris. Butâ¦â Tears stung my eyes and I tried to force them back, but they just kept on rolling down my cheeks.
He closed the short distance between us and snarled at me, gripping my upper arms, shaking me. âYou do not get to cry! Do not try and soften me with tears. If there is one thing I hate more than disobedience it is manipulation!â
I had no intention of manipulating him. âNo, I wasnâtâ¦. Please, listen.â I said between gulping down so bs. âShe needed help, Amaris: I heard her crying and pleading for help.â
Amaris released me and I st ggered back to land onto the chair next to the bookcase. He paced about the room, pinching the bridge of his nose between his fingers. When he stopped, he slapped his hand down onto the desk. I jumped in my seat.
âWhat the hell am I going to do with you? She could have ripped your insides out! You have no idea what their agenda is. Alpha Axel is being investigated for crimes against the crown. He is trying to launch a revolt against me. And what better way to get to me than through you, Raine.â
âWell, then you shouldnât have brought her here!â I screamed at him. âI couldnât stand by and watch her suffer!! am not like you!â Fueled by fury, I never knew I possessed I jumped up to face him. Our eyes clashed like swords, but I wasnât about to back down. My chin jutted out defiantly and my hands balled into tight fists at my sides I kept my eyes locked on his dark, brooding eyes.
The next moment he had me pinned against the desk, one hand in my hair and the other on my waist. His mouth came down on mine, hard, dominant, forcing my lips to part, our teeth clashing. He nipped my lower lip, demanding access to my mouth and his tongue slid in.
The vision I had of him f u cking me against his desk came flooding back and I melted into his embrace. He wasnât gentle. He turned me around roughly and bent me over the desk, his powerful legs holding my thighs apart. I heard him fumbling with his belt, felt his pants slide down his legs.
âAre you well enough, Raine? Because I can stop.â He breathed into my ear as his hands pushed my dress up to

âI am healed, my lord. Make me yours.â
