When Amaris said he wanted a word with Sorin and the Elders, I knew there was going to be trouble and most likely extreme violence. What I didnât expect was my reaction to what was said.
But before we went to the throne room, Amaris took his time with me in our shower. With so much tenderness that I have never felt from him before he every inch of my body until I had to hang onto the walls to keep from floating away.
There was nothing that mattered most at that moment except the two of us uniting underneath the soft spray, washing the past weeksâ bad experiences away. Our wolves purred in our heads, content at last as our souls connected.
Amaris called in Rhona and the girls to help me get ready while he dressed himself, oblivious to the way their eyes wandered every so often to admire his sculpted body. Although they tried their best not to be obvious, I still noticed it. I must admit I hated the way they gaped at him, but it also gave me a sense of pride that all of that gorgeous man belonged to me and none other. So, stare all you want, bitches, he is mine.

Amaris was linking with someone I noticed when he closed his eyes momentarily and his expression turned dark, the tightness in his jaw told me that it wasnât a pleasant conversation.
âWhat is the matter?â I asked while Lily worked her magic on my face.
He laid his hands on my shoulder, looking at me in the mirror. âMy impertinent brother is getting impatient. He canât wait to run to the council to bring his grievances against me, the weasel.â He smiled at my image. âYou look beautiful, my queen.â

I smiled back at him, but at the back of my mind there was a nagging worry that Sorin might succeed. Would Amaris give do that. I would rather accept rejection than have him lose his right to be king.

I couldnât calm my rapid beating heart as we walked into the throne room. They were all waiting for us, Sorin and Helen, all the elders, Lord Greyson, and Ross. I met Rossâ intense dark eyes and he smiled at me briefly.
Everyone stood, bowing their heads as we made our way to the podium. I looked over at Helen. Her pregnancy was further along than last I saw her, her belly rounded, and her face glowed the way pregnant women did. There were no bad feelings towards her from my side although I was certain she didnât feel the same about me and my pup. She acknowledge my gaze with a light nod.
Amaris led the way to the thrones but when I went to sit on mine, he pulled me onto his lap.
âYou belong here. With me.â he whispered into my ear. I linked my fingers with his. I needed his touch.
âSo good to see you well rested, Your Majesty.â Sorin inclined his blonde head towards us. âI guess now we can get down to the business of running the kingdom?â His sweet smile and soft words did nothing to disguise the barb.
âWell, seeing as you did such a good job while you had me detained in the dungeon, what are you bringing to the floor?â Amaris played with the ring on my finger, seemingly disinterested.
âYou know I did it for your own good, Amaris.â Sorin was now standing in front of the podium, his blue eyes narrowed at his brother.
âOh? As well as trying to poison me? I beg to see the good that did me.â Amarisâ voice turned to ice.
Sorin shook his head. âI have no idea what youâre on about. A baseless accusation!â
Lord Greyson cleared his throat. âIf I may speak, Your Majesty?â
Amaris nodded and all eyes turned to the older man.

âHis Majestyâs food was indeed poisoned. He let one of the guards test the food and he died.â Lord Greyson waited for the outraged murmurs to die down before he continued.

âYou didnât tell me that, Amaris.â I reached to touch his cheek and when he turned his face towards me, he my palm.
âIt made no difference. I am here now.ââ
Lord Greyson went on to say, âUnfortunately, the offender has yet to be found. But we will take precautions.â He sat down again.
âWell, you cannot say it was me, Amaris. I take offenceâ¦â Sorin began.
âAnd I take offence that you want to run to the Supernatural Council to have me dethroned.â Amaris lifted me off his lap and stepped down the podium to come face to face with his twin. âYouâd better have a damn good reason, except for your own selfish reasons, Brother! Everyone here knows how you my crown. Itâs no secret that would do anything to get what you want.â

Sorin turned away from Amaris to face the elders and the rest. âYes, itâs true I do want the throne. Because I deserve it. You have no regard for the values and traditions of our kind.â His voice swept over the spectators in the room. âJust look at what youâve brought into your bed!â He turned around and pointed at me. âThat thing in her womb isnât even yours!â
Helen and I both screamed at the same time because Amaris launched himself at his brother. His mighty roar shook the room. A glass pane shattered from the sound.
The elders ran for cover as the brothers collided into their chairs. Lord Greyson and Ross rushed forward to intervene. Amaris held Sorin by the throat, squeezing the life out of him..
âStop them!â Helenâs highâpitched scream rose above the snarling.
I felt the power brewing deep down in my gut, building, building. Until it reached my fingertips. I drew on my emotion, anger at Sorinâs words, fear for Amaris. I held out my hands towards them and let the power flow through me. I felt electrified. A surge left my body, a blue ball of light shot out from my fingertips and collided with the two writhing bodies. They flew apart as if forced by a mighty hand. A shocked silence followed, and everyone stared at me. Including Amaris.
