Shocked silence followed the kingâs announcement. Of all the beauties in the kingdom he chose an Omega!
âHas he lost his mind?â What the hell was Amaris playing at. âSheâs an Omega for f u ckâs sake!â I wanted to rush right over to him and demand to know what he was thinking, but Helen stayed my hand..
âWait, love.â Helen smiled at me, the cun ning glint in her eyes I knew so well and loved. âThis could work in our favor. Think about it.â
âWhat do you mean, Helen?â Choosing an Omega to be his queen, how desperate was he?
âThink about it, my dearest. Amaris is already not so popular among some of the wolf packs, thanks to your excellent strategy. Now taking an Omega Queen, this will prove to the rest of them how weak he is.â She stroked over her barely rounded belly where my pup was growing.
I looked over at the pair of them. Amaris was looking at the girl with hooded eyes, his lust for her so obvious. She was a beauty, there was no point in denying it. But as a toy, se x sl ave, sure enough, but a Queen? How preposterous. My dear mate had a valid point. A weak Queen would make an excellent pawn for us to gain.
control of the crown.
After all, an Alphaâs strength is enhanced by his Luna and why would Amaris then be any different.
âBut Omegas are good breeders, Helen. Maybe that is why he wants her. He is getting desperate.â The mere thought of him conceiving drove me insane. My wolf surfaced, fueled by my anger. I was not about to let that
happen.
âCalm down, love.â Helen stroked my cheek, and her touch instantly calmed my wolf. I kissed her fingers. âI know youâll find a way to prevent that from happening. Youâll have your rightful place on the throne with me and
our son by your side.â
âYou think itâs a boy?â Of course, it had to be a boy. I smiled and placed a hand on her baby bump, it was still early days, but I had hope that this one would be carried to term.
Helenâs light blue eyes sparkled as she looked up at me, smiling. âYes, I just know it. Heâll grow up to be a strong
warrior.â

I took a hard look at my twin. How I despised him! He had it all, my father loved him because he resembled him, I took more to my motherâs side of the family. Father took no trouble with me, saying I was too soft, too girly. True, I wasnât as strong or buff as Amaris, but I had the brains.
Grinning at my mate I held her close to my side. âLet us go and introduce ourselves to the new queen.â A plan began brewing in my head. Weâll see how long this little slip of an Omega would last.
As we drew nearer to Amaris and his new â whatever he wanted to call Her â we were beaten to it by no one other than our uncle, Alpha Hector of the Northern Region.
âThis is an insult to our family and the entire werewolf kingdom, Amaris.â Our hotheaded uncle raged at my brother who regarded him with serene indifference. But knowing my brother, his temper could flare up at any
moment.
âOh dear, Iâm afraid blood will flow tonight, Helen my sweet.â I chuckled in my mateâs ear. What a shame.
Cousin Nerine or was it Celine, who the hell cared, grabbed Uncle Hectorâs waistcoat, trying to pry him away from Amaris, without any success. Their father was like a brick wall and had gotten even more thickset in his old
age.
âPapa, please. Youâre causing a scene,â the other twin tried to reason with him, but he was having none of it. He paid no attention to the onlookers openly gawking at the scene enfolding before them. Our kind loved a good scandal. Theyâd be gossiping about this for a very long time.
âThis is unforgivable, Amaris. You owe it to the kingdom to take a fitting queen.â He wafted his pudgy hand at the poor little Omega. âThis, this, breeder is just a plaything to warm your bed. You need a real woman like, likeâ¦!!
Before he could speak any further, Amarisâs wolf surfaced and his powerful aura surged out, causing even my wolf to whimper in fear. The onlookers cowered and scampered to get away from impending violence. Uncle
Hector and the twins fell to their knees.
âEnough! I, King Amaris Black will let no wolf dictate to me. Even if you are family. GET. OUT.â His voice roared through the ballroom, shattering crystal glasses and causing the glitter ball hanging from the ceiling to shake violently.
Girls ran screaming from the room followed by their respective chaperones and I was taken by surprise when I lifted my gaze to find the Omega standing firmly at Amarisâ side, his arm around her thin shoulders. Although face was the whitest shade of pale Iâve ever seen, she remained standing. Probably frozen in terror, poor thing.

âSorin.â Helen tugged at my arm. âLook at him. Look at how he is reacting to her.â

A frown creased my face. She was right. Normally Amaris would rip the head of anyone that dared to cross him. But although he was enraged, Uncle Hector still had his head firmly attached to his shoulders.
âWell, what do you knowâ¦â I breathed out. âSheâs calmed him down.â
Helenâs fingers drove into the flesh of my upper arm, and I looked at her questioningly. Her blue eyes blazed with intensity.
side.
âPay no heed to my family, Raine. I will not let anyone harm you.â Then he saw Helen and me. âAnd speaking of family.â The look he gave us was cold, he wasnât a man that hid his feelings concerning us..
âWell,â I smiled, âI guess congratulations are in order?â I extended my hand to the girl, but Amaris gripped my hand to stop me. Interesting.
The girl bowed her head to us, and Amaris let out a fierce growl,
âYou do not bow to anyone. You are queen.â
I chuckled and bowed extravagantly to the poor blushing girl. This was going to be so easy. Helen nodded her head in her direction, her smile frozen in place.
âYour Highness, I am the kingâs brother, and this is my mate, the consort Princess Helen.â I made the introductions, seeing as my twin didnât feel the need to.
She looked up into my eyes and I was struck by her innocent hazel eyes. She looked like a deer caught in the headlights. So vulnerable and beautiful, the perfect prey.

âPleased to meet you, your Highnesses.â She managed to squeak out. She looked up at Amaris for confirmation or some sort of reassurance.
âThe celebration must go on. Come, Raine, lust us invite our guests to come back to enjoy the rest of the feast.â He swept her away, without so much as a nod to us. âMusic!â he demanded and at once the music filled the ballroom. Some of the guests came back, hesitantly at first, but seeing their king taking to the dance floor with his queen, the tense atmosphere subsided and soon more followed the pairâs example.
Helen and I joined the dance, moving elegantly across the floor towards Amaris and his pretty little Omega. I enjoyed watching her face, she looked so out of place, but Amaris was oblivious to her discomfort as he twirled her around on the floor.
âYou shouldnât stare so obviously, Sorin.â Helen chided with a note of jealousy in her voice.
I chuckled at the back of my throat. âDonât be jealous, my princess. You are the only woman for me, you should know that.â
âShe is pretty though.â Helenâs mouth turned down slightly when her eyes flitted towards Amaris and Raine.
âToo skinny for my liking. Amaris will break her.â I said with my lips skimming her neck. The mating moon was taking effect even on the mated wolves as its glow bathed the ballroom in pale light. The lights have been turned down and the velvet curtains pulled back from the tall windows to let light in.
My wolf wasnât the only thing stirring under my clothes and I held Helen closer. But I couldnât take my eyes off the hazel-eyed girl locked in my brotherâs embrace.
The way the moonlight cast shadows over her delicate features made her appear even more enchanting than she was. For an Omega she had the fine bone structure of a higher rank. I wondered who her father was, surely
not that drunk that came with her.
âEarth to Sorin,â Helen breathed into my ear. âI can smell your arousal, my lord. Shall we go to our rooms?â
Taking one last long look at my brother dancing with his queen, I linked arms with my mate, and we made our way out of the ballroom.
