Chapter 24: Lilith and Alistair's Next Master Plan (Another Glorious Failure)
The grand imperial palace buzzed with activity, but deep in one of the quieter chambers, Lilith and Alistair were huddled together, plotting their next attempt to bring Tiara and Chris down.
Lilith paced the room, her white hair swishing behind her as she clutched her fan dramatically. âThis is unacceptable, Alistair! Tiaraâs reputation is growing stronger by the day, and now, rumors say sheâs engaged to Prince Chris. If this continues, weâll never outshine her!â
Alistair, lounging in a chair with a sly smirk, replied, âPatience, Lilith. I have a plan.â
Lilith stopped mid-step, her red eyes narrowing. âYou said that last time, and we ended up covered in flour and chased out of the dukeâs estate.â
âThat was merely a test run,â Alistair said, waving dismissively. âThis time, weâll strike where it hurts. Weâll expose Tiaraâs âtrueâ colors at a public gathering. The next banquet is the perfect stage.â
Lilith perked up, intrigued. âAnd how do you plan to do that?â
Alistair leaned forward, his voice low. âWeâll spread a rumor that Tiara is bribing nobles to gain favor. Then, during the banquet, weâll âaccidentallyâ reveal her âhidden stashâ of gold coins.â
Lilith clapped her hands together. âBrilliant! With everyone doubting her, sheâll lose all credibility.â

The Banquet Hall
The grand hall was filled with nobles dressed in their finest, the air buzzing with laughter and conversation. Tiara, seated at a table with Mia, Felix, and Lily, was blissfully unaware of the storm brewing.
âTiara,â Mia said, leaning in, âhave you noticed how many people are watching you tonight?â
Tiara sighed, adjusting her gloves. âLet me guessâmore rumors?â
Felix chuckled. âRumors or admirers. Take your pick.â
Before Tiara could reply, the doors burst open, and in walked Lilith and Alistair, their expressions a mix of smugness and feigned innocence.
âOh, great,â Tiara muttered. âHere comes trouble.â
Lilith approached Tiaraâs table, her smile saccharine. âLady Tiara, you look stunning tonight. Truly, youâre the jewel of the kingdom.â
Tiara arched an eyebrow. âLilith. How unexpected. And by unexpected, I mean completely unwelcome.â
Lily snorted, trying to hide her laughter, while Felix smirked.
Undeterred, Lilith continued, âI heard the most fascinating rumor earlier. Surely, youâve heard it too?â
Tiara tilted her head, feigning interest. âOh, do tell. Iâm dying to know what nonsense youâve come up with this time.â
Lilithâs smile faltered for a split second. âWell, there are whispers that certain nobles have been... persuaded to support your family. Financially persuaded.â
The surrounding nobles murmured, their curiosity piqued.
Tiara leaned back in her chair, looking utterly bored. âPersuaded? How intriguing. And where, pray tell, are these bribes youâre so concerned about?â
Alistair, sensing his moment, stepped forward. âFunny you should ask.â He gestured to a servant carrying a chest. âPerhaps this will answer your question.â
The servant placed the chest on the table and opened it, revealing... apples.
The entire hall fell silent before erupting in laughter.
Tiara blinked, then smirked. âOh, how thoughtful, Alistair! Youâve brought me a gift of fruit. Is this your way of apologizing for your last failed scheme?â
Lilith paled, while Alistair looked flustered. âThis isnât... This was supposed to beââ
âApples,â Felix said, his tone dripping with mock seriousness. âA bold move, Your Highness. Truly groundbreaking.â
Tiara picked up one of the apples, inspecting it. âWell, I suppose itâs better than flour.â
The nobles around her burst into another wave of laughter, some whispering about how clever Tiara was.
Lilith, desperate to salvage the situation, grabbed an apple and tried to spin it into something meaningful. âThese apples represent the... the... golden core of Lady Tiaraâs heart! Sheâs so generous that even her bribes are nutritious.â
Tiara clapped her hands together dramatically. âOh, Lilith, youâre too kind. If you keep praising me like this, people might think weâre friends!â
The hall roared with laughter again, and Lilithâs face burned with humiliation.

Later That Evening
As the banquet ended, Chris approached Tiara, his expression unreadable.
âYou handled that well,â he said, his tone dry.
Tiara smirked. âI have to, with people like your brother and Lilith around. Honestly, do they even think their plans through?â
Chris chuckled. âClearly not. But I must admit, watching you turn their schemes against them is rather entertaining.â
Tiara raised an eyebrow. âOnly rather?â
Chris smiled. âFine. Highly entertaining.â
As he walked away, Mia leaned closer to Tiara. âYou two are definitely secretly engaged.â
Tiara groaned. âMia, I swearââ
Felix interrupted, smirking. âRumors or not, I donât think Prince Chris minds.â
Lily added, âAnd if this keeps up, Lilith and Alistair might accidentally succeed... in making you more popular.â
Tiara laughed. âLet them try. The harder they scheme, the harder they fall.â
