Alcha On The Hunt Chapter 9 Spending the night with Axton is awkward. We have bare- ly spoken since I stepped out of the shower.
And I have kept my distance since. The bond is yearning for him and being locked in a room filled with his scent is making the bond near- ly impossible to ignore. Yet Axton looks perfectly comfortable when he walks back into the room holding two plates.
The smell of steak reaches my nose, and my stomach growls loudly. Another thing to add to the list of embarrass- ing shit I have no control over right now. âHungry?â Axton chuckles.
âYes, Iâm still breastfeeding, well mix feeding, Iâm always. hungry.â I tell him, and he nods, setting the plate on my lap.
âJust because Iâm technically taking them for the weekend doesnât mean you canât breastfeed them,â
Axton says, while sitting down with his own dinner.
âWill you stay the whole weekend?â I chew the inside of my lip. Lexa has been constantly at me about what a terrible idea staying here is. Yet she also canât be away from the boys. The anguish is not worth it. So a few uncomfortable nights canât be that bad?
âI would offer to stay at your place, but Iâm on house ar- rest still, and I donât think Sondra likes me. I worry sheâll shoot me in my sleep.â Axton chuckles.
Sondraâs words before I left come back to me about how the apple doesnât fall far from the tree. The way she spoke was as if she knew Axtonâs father and mine. But what possible link would she have to his family and mine and what is her guilt about?

âElena?â I look at Axton, lost in my thoughts.
âPardon?â
âI asked if you were staying the entire weekend, or if you are going home tomorrow?â I sigh, knowing I could go home and pump but I would only fret for them and Sondra might as well chuck me in the fields with the dairy cows because guar- anteed I will be producing more milk than I can freeze being away from them.
âI can organize Eli to stay the entire weekend. My men will watch over your pack,â I nod, grateful because my boobs were killing me, and the shower turned into a milk fountain the mo- ment the hot water touched me. Just the thought of leaving them here makes my anxiety peak. Not that he canât look after them. He has already proved he is quite capable. Which brings me to more questions. Why is he so good with kids yet his people skills suck?
Cutting a piece of my steak, I pop it into my mouth pon- dering my thoughts, and almost moan at the taste.
âI didnât know you could cook,â I tell him and he stops chewing. He swallows before clearing his throat.
âIâm not completely useless.â
âI never said you were,â I retort. He shrugs.
âI used to cook for my grandfather after my mother died.â
Tilting my head, I watch him for a second, wondering if I should ask if he knows Sondra or ever heard of her before.
âYour father killed her, didnât he?â Axton nods, but says nothing on the matter.
âHow old were you?â
âSeventeen.â
âSo you were seventeen when you killed your father?â I blurt out.
âNo, he would have killed me. I was nearly eighteen.â
âI thought you would have had at least a wolf. How else could you challenge your father?â
âI did have my wolf. Khan saved me that night.â
âBut you just said you were seventeen?â Axton sighs, lean- ing back in his chair and folding his arms across his chest, watching me.
âWhy do you want to know?â he demands and I shrug, âCuriosityâ¦.And something Sondra said.â I admit.
âSondra? The old lady you live with?â I nod my head, won- dering if I said too much.
âWhat did she say?â I shake my head, not wanting to an- swer and anger him or refuse to let the boys back there.
âWell, I am not answering your questions unless you an- swer mine. Besides, you have enough shit against me; I am not going to give you more.â Axton tells me.
wouldnât use your dead parents against you Axton, I am not cruel.â
Axton clenches his jaw, but I could see he wasnât going to answer unless I did, and now my curiosity has peaked tenfold.
âFine. Sondra mentioned she knew your father, but she wouldnât tell me how. She said that is why she helped us be- cause she felt guilty she couldnât save them, that she knew my father, too.â
âYour father?â Axton says, leaning forward and almost putting his elbows on his food. He growls, setting his plate down on the coffee table.
âHow does she know your father?â
âI donât know. She wouldnât tell me anymore.â Axton sighs and his brows furrow.
âBut that is why I asked. I wasnât looking for anything to use against you. I just wanted to know what her link is to you and my dad.â
âI donât know her, so I am not sure. I know Marco, and he said he is related to her, though?â Axton seems thoughtful for a second while I nod my head.
Axton frowns, a strange look crossing his face. âBut she is Human?â he questions, confused.
âYeah, he is her brother-in-law, not a blood relative.â
âHer brother-in-law, but Marco only has one brother?â he questions, ĺ nod, yet the look he has on his face is like he knows something.
âWhy are you pulling that face?â I ask.
âBecause I know Marco through my father and mother, Marcoâs brother⦠ah.. whatâs his name⦠Geez, I havenât seen him since I was kid; he and my mother had a huge fight.â
âFloyd?â I offer, and his eyes widen, and he quickly nods.
âYeah, Floyd, he was friends with my father. He is how my father met my mother, but I do not know how that links to your father.â
âSo, what is Floydâs link to your father?â
âDoes it matter?â Axton shrugs. Well, yes, because I want to know why Sondra feels guilty, but I can tell Axton would not answer. But I also want to know how he killed his father without a wolf.
