Chapter 3: Ch .2.

Bound To HerWords: 13455

it was a quarter to midnight by the time she hit the street again, Alex took a left turn then a right and walked some more. the party-goers scattered on either side of the road, all dressed up and ready for a night out on the town.

absorbed in her thoughts, Alex lost track of which corners she rounded and which streets she crossed but a moment's doubt was dissipated when she noticed the bright neon red sign.

the sign was quite modest in design if extravagant in effect. A capital 'V' shone in an exquisite bloody red contrasting the surrounding darkness. It was quiet on the outside, but determined as she was, Alexandra pushed the outer doors open and stepped inside, the double doors closing behind her leaving the outside world neglected for the night.

the moment Alex set foot behind the double doors, all sense of serenity was dissipated, overtaken by the loud dance music reverberating inside the club.

A large staircase went down into the basement of the building the walls were painted a vibrant scarlet lined with glowing red neon lights giving the whole setting a warm tint.

The room she wandered into was massive in dimension lit by spot lights and laser beams of every shade and every color.

The Vault was jam packed and there was barely any place to move. the bar stretched along the length of the room which was, as Alex had noticed, massive in dimension. She fought her way through the horde of dancers and sat down at the closest available barstool.

The bar itself was made from beige marble, a black spider web design of intertwining lines broke the edge giving the countertop a glimmering effect.

Many different bottles of alcohol were displayed on the wall, stacked on shelves matching the bright hue of the entrance. Multiple bartenders were working the crowded bar but soon enough one had spotted the blonde and made her way towards where Alex sat.

"what's your poison?" the bartender asked as she came closer to where Alex had taken refuge from the crowd. The woman was rather short, with frizzy brown hair that ended at the nape of her neck, her complexion was a mocha shade of brown, somewhat chocolatey.

Alex dared make eye contact for a brief moment, the bartender's eyes struck her as a deep brown to match her complexion, the woman's lips were full and only added beauty to her features.

" I'll have a Bloody Mary please" Alexandra uttered snapping out of the trance, the bartender obliged with a playful smirk on her luscious lips.

Alex merely sat there, sipping on her drink when a young man approached her.

"May I?" he asked while pointing at the empty barstool next to Her. Alex set her drink down and nodded shyly. The blond, blue eyed stranger sat next to her and smiled charmingly. His dirty blond hair was cut short, almost a military cut, his striking blue eyes stood out with piercing sharpness, contrasting his more subtle complexion and defined jaw.

" I noticed you were sitting by yourself and thought I'd keep you company, I'm Gabriel by the way" the stranger explained, his German accent showing in his speech.

"I'm Alexandra, but Alex is fine" she held her hand out hesitantly and Gabriel took it gladly.

"so, Alex, what brings you here? You're not exactly one of the regulars at this club" Gabriel went on to say whilst motioning for Krishna, the bartender, to refill his glass.

The mocha skinned bartender leaned forward and whispered into Gabriel's ear and Alex arched an eyebrow but hastily dismissed the action.

Gabriel redirected his attention towards Alex whom was still only a few sips into her bloody Mary.

The blonde 27 year old cleared her throat shyly before answering " um...you know, home alone, on a Friday night, kinda got too depressing I guess" she stammered and took a long sip from her drink.

Gabriel arched a finely sculped eyebrow "so you just wandered around and stumbled into The Vault?" he inquired taking a sip of his imported beer.

" Yeah, sort of" Alex replied not really knowing how to answer the question without giving away some personal information to a perfect stranger.

Gabriel nodded while maintaining eye contact with Alex flashing a subtle smile, the rhythm of the music had picked up then slowed back down as they were making small talk, Gabriel told her about his days as a Corporal in the military and continued on about his not so recent discharge from the forces.

Alex was so engrossed in his story that she lost count of how many drinks she had consumed, she felt a slight buzz from the alcohol but she wasn't really drunk. Alex glanced at her watch rapidly trying to check how late it was but Gabriel took her hands into his and placed a gentle kiss on her hand

"would you like to dance Alex?" he asked after having interrupted his story of his last days as an army man.

Alex nodded and before she knew it Gabriel had taken her hand and lead her through the crowds to the center of the dance floor.

The rhythm was fast and the bass was thumping loudly, Gabriel's hands were gentle and his moves in sync with the music, they swayed together while the corporal took the lead, Alexandra felt entranced as they danced, maybe it was the music, maybe the drinks or the fact that she was having some fun. whatever it was, Alex was feeling too relaxed and happy to think about it.

Alexandra felt Gabriel's eye on her and as he looked up he met his deep penetrating gaze. It was as if spasms of electricity traveled through her body, she froze in place as Gabriel leaned forward inch by inch then pressed his lips against hers.

To Alex the world seemed to stand still when their lips collided, she felt herself falling into his arms her body refusing to obey her mind, full paralysis had overcome her. yet her legs moved as they wished leading her towards the side door and out into into the hall with Gabriel right behind her.

It all seems so surreal to Alex, she felt like she was dreaming but it really wasn't...

A stinging pain shot through her body like daggers thrusting into her core, Alex felt a warm liquid ooze down her neck and she began to feel light headed.

Alexandra was straddling the line between conscious and unconscious, she let out a barely audible moan when she noticed a red head and two blurry figure is heading towards her and Gabriel it looked like they were moving at super human speed.

She was drifting into darkness slowly yet surely ,Gabriel was still against her, she still felt the heat of his body on her skin. her mind was overwhelmed with pain and pleasure but she couldn't get her body to obey her commands.

Suddenly she felt harsh coldness take over her, sending chills all through her body. Alex felt heavy, her legs were getting weak. she looked up and froze, her eyes meeting the redhead's.

She slowly slid down on the wall falling to the floor with a heavy thud and the world around her started to go black. Alex laid there on the floor with her back against the wall unaware of what was happening around her, the darkness having consumed her consciousness.

Asha had a grim expression on her face, an expression of pure rage.

"you imbecile! Have you learned nothing?" she scolded Gabriel while she held him two feet up in the air, her perfectly polished nails digging inri his neck. The redhead threw him away from Alex knocking him out cold and crouched down near Alexandra's limp figure

"get her to the back Krishna, Mikael I need you to call Cheyenne. Get her here as soon as possible" the redhead instructed as she stood up.

"what if she wakes up? What do I tell her? " Krishna asked her voice laced with worry.

"tell her nothing, the gir's vitals are low and she won't be waking up for a few hours" Asha paused seeing Elia arrive

"Elia, I need you to take Gabriel and lock him in his room, when he wakes up inform him that the council will decide his fate. He better pray to whatever god he believes in that the girl survives" she concluded and stepped over Gabriel's motionless body heading towards her office.

Mikael pulled out his cellphone and dialed Cheyenne's number placing the phone to his ear and turning away from Elia and Krishna.

The bartender lifted alexandra's unconscious body and carried her through halls taking her to the back of the building. Mikael followed them keeping a close eye on their surroundings since they were now crossing a restricted area for humans.

As they reached a vacant room, Krishna set Alex down onto the bed and cleaned the dried blood from her wound while Mikael stood in the doorframe whilst waiting for the good doctor to answer fer phone.

"hello" a melodic voice answered and Mikael responded hastily

" Cheyenne, we have a dire situation and Asha has requested your immediate presence" Mikael's voice was firm and conveyed the urgency of his message.

Mikaël soon rejoined Krishna by Alex's bedside, the sleeping woman was already hooked up to a heart rate monitor, echoing in the silence in monotonous rhythm, and a dextrose injection IV .

Asha sat in her office, behind locked doors contemplating her options, the mistake Gabriel had committed was a grave one and was punishable by death or worse.

She tapped her fingernails against the oak of her desk to the muffled rhythm of thumping base resorting from the club below.

She picked up her stylograph and penned letter after letter, calling the elders into session, the council hadn't assembled for decades, she wasn't sure if the elders would even attend the meeting.

First she wrote to Bashaa, the father of all immortals, he was not a vampire but he was the eldest, the primate of most supernatural races. She penned his letter brief and to the point, just like he liked it.

Then she wrote to Ishtar next, her creator and long ago, her mentor and lover. Their reunion would surely be a passionate one even under such unfortunate circumstances.

She finally wrote to Marduk and Arshaka, who haven't been separated since their creation. They traveled from country to country making legions as they went.

Last but never least, she picked up her phone and called her fellow elders and trainers, Zhi-Ming and Sekhemet. The phone rang for a while and when Asha had considered to call at another more convenient time, Sekhemet answered slightly out of breath. Asha dismissed the panting and brought Sekhemet up to speed on the events that took place that night and requested their attendance at the council meeting.

It only took Cheyenne a few minutes to arrive at the club and hurriedly skip down to where Mikael and Krishna were waiting for her.

With a brief hello, Cheyenne immediately directed her attention to the comatose woman drenched in the smell of blood, from her unusual pallor to the spider web cappilaries visible on her skin and her feeble heartbeat, the doctor could easily tell the woman had lost a significant amount of blood.

The doctor turned towards Mikael "get her at least six or seven units of O- , tell the staff at the blood bank that I sent you" she instructed and laid her briefcase on the bed where the girl laid motionless.

The blonde's heartbeat were weaker than normal not to mention immensely faster and her breathing shallow.

"wanna fill me in on what happened?" Dr. Lavoie inquired, her French accent slightly apparent after all these years. The doc's silver orbs glowing like crystals.

"Gabriel couldn't, or rather wouldn't, restrict himself to a few sips front the girl and Asha intervened at the last possible moment" Krishna answered avoiding direct eye contact.

Cheyenne nodded as Krishna explained the details of what had happened earlier

"have Zhi-Ming and Sekhemet been informed?" the doctor added while intently focusing on Alex's heartbeat.

"yes, we've been informed" came a voice from the door. There, in the doorway stood Asha with a stern look in her face, an almost cruel expression, behind her stood the remaining two elders, Zhi-Ming and Sekhemet looking slightly irritated at the situation.

"how is she doing?" Asha asked breaking the intense silence. Alex looked pale and weary but still maintained a beautiful air of innocence as she lay there lost within her mind.

"I've sent Mikael to the blood bank, she's weak, her chances are extremely feeble" doctor Lavoie explained to the elders unhindered by any pity.

"keep her alive, the council meeting is in two days" Asha declared flatly then turned on her heels to head back into her office, leaving Krishna and Cheyenne in the company of the other two elders.

The redhead poured herself a glass of premium blended whiskey and sat in her chair, eyes fixed on the dancing flames in the fireplace. Her mind kept replacing they brief moment before the blonde woman had collapsed to the ground, that minute instance when scenic grey and kryptonite green eyes collided. Asha was shaken to her core, what she felt was so unusual, she felt connected to the woman though she didn't know her. Asha felt afraid for the blonde in that moment, afraid of losing her, as strange as that sounds. Asha was desperately hoping that the blonde would pull through, for some unknown reason.
