233 Ch. 233 Second Chance
Stanley massaged his forehead, hearing his sonâs explanation. He had no idea that Anxiaâs parents were still alive somewhere, and no one knew whether those holding them were enemies or just strangers who had coincidentally bumped into them.
âThen what are your plans after this?â
âAct like I donât understand why Anxia left me, and Iâm hoping you can take care of Lori.â
âThatâs without a doubt I will protect her. But I want to tell you one thing, Anxia came to our home with many thugs two nights ago.â
ââ¦â
âYou know this?â
Richard shook his head. âDid she set off Rossieâs defense system alarm?â
âNo. She didnât come in and got back in the car after getting into a fight with one of the group.â
Richard couldnât hide his proud smile at this news. He knew Anxia had wholly accepted him, but he had no idea that Anxia had also considered his family. He tried to raise an arm that couldnât hold on for a few seconds and fell to his side.
.....
âLooks like I need some practice to move my muscles.â
âHow reckless!â was a snide comment from his father that made Richard wince.
âYes, yes. Feel free to sneer at me as you please, dad. But⦠Thank you for coming.â
Stanley sighed and then walked out to let the doctor give medicine so that Richardâs condition would recover as before.
In the meantime, Anxia, sitting relaxed on her balcony enjoying fresh cold juice, noticed her LMYT bracelet shining with a pink light.
A sweet smile etched on her face seeing the light.
Ah, finally, her husband is awake. Anxia couldnât wait to meet her husband and go home with him. Before this, she hesitated to go home because her mother and father were still there.
But now that she saw her motherâs gesture had significantly changed, Anxia didnât feel guilty if she acted rebelliously and left the older woman. But she did not want to leave her father alone.
But⦠she doubted that her mother would let her take her father away while her fatherâs body condition did not allow him to move.
Anxia could only take a deep breath and wait for her husbandâs arrival to discuss her fatherâs matters.
âMiss Anxia,â
For the umpteenth time, Anxia sighed heavily as she closed her eyes tiredly. She had guessed the purpose of a maid calling her before even listening to the next sentence.
âThe madam wishes to see you.â
Even though Anxia was reluctant to see her mother, Anxia forced herself to walk and meet her mother even though she knew that the conversation between them would not go well.
Just as Anxia arrived at her motherâs private room, Loraine Shu didnât mince words and expressed what she wanted from her daughter.
âXiao Xia, we donât have much time left. Tell me the contents of Hawk-Eyeâs data.â
ââ¦â Again? Hawk-Eye? Why did her mother ask something she didnât know? âDidnât you say Hawk-Eye was a program? Why are you now asking about the data?â
âYes. Hawk-Eye is indeed a program, but someone managed to hack into it and store the contents of the data into a chip. I heard you are holding the chip because master Yu entrusted you with keeping it.â
ââ¦â A chip?n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âSomeone else is after the chip.â That was what Wang Xuemin told her after killing Master Yuâs henchmen. She had no idea that her mother would want it too!
âIâve thrown the chip into the middle of the ocean.â
âBut youâve memorized it in your brain.â
âMom⦠you think Iâm a robot? I am also an ordinary human. Ever since I decided to get out of the underworld, I no longer thought about the chip. Now I have forgotten everything, and I donât remember it.â Anxiaâs eyes shone unwaveringly and steadily as she said this.
Loraine Shu looked at her daughter with a probing gaze to find out if she was lying. After eyeing her daughter for many years, she recognized her daughterâs capability. Starting from the ability to fight, act and spit lies so smoothly.
And now, Loraine couldnât tell whether her daughter was lying to her, but she couldnât force her and directly accused her carelessly. Not to mention, the relationship between them started to crack, and Anxia no longer looked at her as a mother. Loraine needed to mend their bond quickly, but her pride wouldnât allow her to apologize.
âIf you say so. Come here; I want to have lunch with you.â
Anxia didnât move closer even though her mother had already headed to a round table where Chinese dishes were already set there, along with fragrant tea.
âXiao Xia, I know our relationship has become distant because we rarely communicate. I want to be closer to my daughter and hope you feel the same way.â
âNo. I no longer want to be close to you.â Anxia replied coldly without filtering her words, leaving Loraine speechless.
âXiao Xia,â Loraine took her daughterâs hand in hers and spoke in a coaxing voice. âDonât be like that. I know you still value me. Otherwise, you would not have chosen to leave your husband there.â
That is not true. Anxia was willing to leave Richard only because her husband suggested she go. If the man didnât say anything or told her not to leave, Anxia wouldnât go.
In the end, Anxia let Loraine pull her hand, and they had lunch with Loraine, who kept talking about trivial things like her love of seeing flowers and turning the back garden into a garden of rare flowers. Or when Loraine lived in this place and fell in love with this mansion the first time her eyes saw the sights of this island.
From the outside, Anxia looked indifferent and didnât care about her motherâs stories, but her ears listened to her motherâs every word for the first time.
Why didnât they talk about trivial things like this from the start? Isnât the order wholly reversed? Anxia thought silently.
Is it possible that their long separation has made the mother stiff, and she doesnât know how to act towards her child? Maybe thatâs why now her mother is trying to mend their relationship.
Because of that, Anxia gave her mother this opportunity and let her approach her. After all, nobody was perfect, and everyone deserved a second chance.
