239 Ch. 239 Test Elliotâs Capability
How well Elliot was hiding his feelings and how good the boy was at hiding his fearâAnxia wanted to test it. Now she understood why her mother wanted to test her combat skillsâthe older woman wanted to test the childâs capabilities she had not seen for a long time. In Anxiaâs case, the child she never knew she had given birth to.
If a father had no idea he had a child, people would understand that, especially if the mother-to-be hid her pregnancy and ran away. But Anxia... ??she was a woman and gave birth, but she never knew that she had given birth to a pair of twins... She knew how careless she could be to be fooled by the female doctor. Anxia and Ling Meng knew nothing about pregnancy and blindly believed the doctor.
Fortunately, it was still not too late to approach her son. Elliot was still five, and they had a very long time to live as a complete family. Anxia assumed that Elliot was living normally and peacefully this time without worrying about the threat of danger haunting him. Anxia believed her son lived in this place and was an innocent child and knew nothing about masking his expression or the secret code like what she taught Lori.
But Elliot managed to prove all of her assumptions mistaken. This kid was good at masking his facial expression and hiding his true feelings. If Anxia didnât have sharp instincts and perceptiveness, she would never have known that Elliot was acting.
âWhat about you, mom? Can you speak foreign languages ??other than Chinese and English?â asked Anxia to her mother.
âNo. Iâm too old to learn another language.â
Anxia smiled crookedly at that, then spoke to her mother in German. âThen, if I speak this language with my son, you wonât find out about our secret, wonât you?â
Elliot almost choked on his food while Loraine looked calm because she didnât understand what her daughter said.
âWhat are you talking about? Yangâer, do you understand?â
.....
âNo, grandma. Iâve never heard of that language, â replied the child, blinking innocently at his grandmother, making Anxia almost unable to hold back her smile.
Anxia noticed how Elliot reacted, as if he understood what she was saying. The child claimed only to master four languages: English, Chinese, Spanish, and African. But the boy could understand German so well that he almost choked on his food.
Luckily the boyâs reaction was smart enough, and he took his drink glass with a relaxed motion as if he suddenly felt thirsty. His tiny hand trembled a little, and the boy didnât dare to look straight at Loraineâs eyes and hid his trembling hand under the table.
Anxia couldnât help but worry about seeing her sonâs reactions. She hoped her children could live a normal life and was relieved Lori finally had one since meeting Richard. But now⦠she found that her sonâs growth environment was even more abnormal than her daughterâs.
Since Anxia already knew of her sonâs abilities, she decided not to test him further so as not to make her mother suspicious. Not long after, Loraine got up because someone was delivering a letter to her.
After ensuring Loraine wasnât in the dining room, Elliot got off his chair and walked to his mother. He pulled Anxiaâs arm, asking her to lower her head because she wanted to whisper something to Anxia.
Anxia complied with his request and let her son whisper something in her ear. Anxiaâs brow furrowed for a split second upon hearing Elliotâs words, then put on an even expression again.
Without hearing Anxiaâs response, Elliot returned to his seat and finished his sandwich.
Not long after, Loraine Shu returned and sat down casually as she asked his grandson. âWhat did you whisper to your mother? Am I not allowed to know?â
âI said I want to sleep with her,â Elliot replied, lowering his head as if he was a child who had done something wrong and was afraid of facing his grandmotherâs tantrum.
Anxia didnât like seeing her son lower his head like this because the boy had done nothing wrong that deserved punishment. But now that she knew about the boyâs acting ability, Anxia let it go because she knew the boy was acting to win the older womanâs heart.
âAh, I see. Well, you can sleep with your mother tonight.â
âI can?â Elliot looked surprised to hear this but, at the same time, seemed very happy and enthusiastic, knowing that he would sleep in his motherâs arms.
Even Anxia herself couldnât tell whether this child was acting or genuinely feeling happy sleeping with her.
Anxia recalled what Elliot had whispered in her ear.
âMama, be careful when speaking in a foreign language. Grandma has something in this place and is always ready to provide an interpreter.â
And the kid didnât say it in German or the language the kid spoke. But Dutch!
Really⦠how many languages ??could this boy speak? Is it the same as Lori?
Remembering Elliotâs warning that there was a bugging device in this room, Anxia limited her words and acted normal in front of her mother. Elliot was also cooperating and behaving as usual and not showing anything suspicious.
What perfect acting. Elliot was her son, after all!
That day, Elliot stuck like a postage stamp with Anxia, and Anxia happily accepted her sonâs approach with open arms. This made Loraine Shu furious because she couldnât discuss things with her daughter because of her grandsonâs existence, and Loraine had no choice but to let the mother-son pair spend all day together.
That day, Anxia took a leisurely walk with Elliot in the flower garden, sat by the fish pond, and visited Zhou Yu hue, where Jamie was always faithful to accompany and monitor Anxiaâs fatherâs condition.
At first, Anxia didnât like the presence of this mute woman. But when she saw how much her son admired Jamie and saw with her own eyes that the woman was sincere in being her sonâs friend without any ulterior motives, Anxia began to accept the womanâs presence.
Anxia was even amazed when she saw her son understand Jamieâs hand language movements, making her immediately know that Elliot spent more time with Jamie than Loraine Shu.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
