But was it even okay to say that? At the very least, it was better left unsaid when Kingston approached her.
"You should get to know her a bit first."
Get to know her? Kingston scratched his head. "I got too nervous earlier and forgot."
After saying that, Kingston turned and walked back. He was brimming with confidence at first, but he froze again when he was three feet away from the
woman.
Then he came back to Matthew. "I'm starting to sober up. I need a few more drinks."
Matthew nodded. "Then go ahead and have a few more."
Kingston approached the bar. "Give me a b-bottle."
He was clueless about what to get, so he ended up being super vague.
Smiling, the bartender asked, "Are you sure you want a whole bottle, not just a glass?"
Glancing back at the woman in a red dress, Kingston hurriedly said, "Yeah. I want a bottle. Hurry up. I need it quick."
The bartender nodded. "No problem. What drink are you looking for?"
Kingston urgently called out, "I'm looking for a strong liquor. Make it quick. Get me a bottle of Skol."
The bartender looked at Kingston oddly. "We don't have Skol here."
Frowning, Kingston thought for a bit and stated, "I don't mind paying more, but it needs to pack a punch."
Feeling awkward, the bartender responded, "We don't sell off-premise liquor, but we do have vodka, tequila, whiskey, and brandy. What are you looking for?"
Kingston just took a random pick. "Whiskey."
The bartender grabbed a bottle without much thought. "That'll be 400 dollars. Do you want me to open it for you?"
Kingston narrowed his eyes and turned to look at the woman in a red dress. He gritted his teeth and bit the bullet.
"I'll take it. Open it up."
The bartender pointed out the payment options, then popped the cap off and handed over two glasses.
Kingston grabbed the bottle and started chugging it, choking and coughing for a while. His face flushed red as he turned to Matthew and said, "I feel like I've got it now. Keep an eye on the drinks for me. I will give it another try."
With that, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and headed toward the woman in a red dress. Meanwhile, Matthew sat at the bar, praying silently.
Kingston could do this. Please make it work. If things went smoothly, he would follow through on his promise.
Matthew fixed his gaze on Kingston, watching as Kingston walked up to the woman in a red dress. He stood there for a moment before stepping forward and starting to talk.
Matthew was curious about what Kingston was saying, especially with how confident Kingston looked. Right when Matthew was enjoying the show, the woman suddenly slapped Kingston across the face.
Matthew was taken aback by what he saw. What did Kingston say that pissed off the woman so much?
Holding his face, Kingston just stood there in a daze and stared at the woman. Then, he turned around and came back to the bar. After grabbing the whiskey bottle, he downed a few swigs.
Matthew furrowed his brows as he watched. "What the hell did you say? Why'd she get so mad?"
Kingston massaged his face as if he was trying to clear his head. He reluctantly glanced back at the woman in a red dress, and the latter met his gaze.
Unexpectedly, the woman left her friends behind, walking over with a glass in hand. Was she really coming this way?
Kingston got a little worked up as he put down the bottle and muttered to himself, "She's coming over. Maybe she's having second thoughts about slapping me. I'm finally getting lucky with the ladies. That slap was totally worth it."
