Vernon broke into laughter. "That's easy. Forget about fancy cars. I could even get you a private jet. But since it isn't practical to fly a plane in the factory, we'll just stick with a luxury car instead."

...

Around 2:00 p.m., a bus made its way to Lifehaven Pharmaceuticals.

Inside the bus, Matthew sat in a spot at the corner in the back, and next to him was a man in his 30s. He'd been looking worried ever since he got on the bus. His name was Desmond Herbert.

Desmond tapped Matthew on the arm. "Hey, man. My son is going to attend college at Khoitwood. He needs 1,500 dollars a month for food and another 1,500 dollars for his house loan. What's the payday for this factory? Is it always on time?"

How would Matthew know if Lifehaven Pharmaceuticals would pay on time? Just as he was about to say he didn't know, Dax chimed in.

"The owner of the factory is pretty rich. I heard he owns a private jet and fancy cars. Since he's loaded, he even gives bonuses every month."

Desmond wryly smiled. "I won't hold my breath for a bonus. I just want my paycheck to come on time. Honestly, the pay at this factory is really low. I wouldn't be here at all if my mom wasn't sick, making me unable to work out of town."

The bus eventually came to an open area in the factory. All the workers came together and stood in the open space for a meeting.

Matthew said he needed to use the restroom and went into the building. 20 minutes later, he came back to find that the meeting was already over.

Upon spotting Matthew, Desmond walked over to give him a kind reminder. "When you were gone, the manager laid down the rule. You can't wander around the factory. Be careful, or they'll dock your pay."

Matthew replied with a smile, "Thanks for telling me."

Desmond pointed to a spot not too far away. "The dorms are right there. Let's get our accommodations sorted out."

Out of nowhere, a red sports car came speeding up from behind a building. The moment the car rolled out, it started blasting the horn, as if it wanted to make sure nobody missed it.

The roaring of the car engine was deafening. The new workers were in the square when they saw the car coming. Everyone hurried out of the way, and it got pretty chaotic.

Vernon pressed the horn. Watching the crowd step aside, he hit the gas. He was planning to pull off a nice drift at the factory entrance.

Just as he picked up speed, he unexpectedly spotted someone squatting on the ground tying their shoelaces. It looked like the person didn't see him coming.

Having no time to think, he quickly swerved to change the direction. What he didn't expect was that the car was heading straight at the crowd.

Vernon quickly slammed on the brakes. Amid the screeching brakes, two people fell to the ground.

Matthew got up from the ground. He ended up falling on the ground when he tried to grab Desmond and couldn't dodge in time. Thankfully, he was fine.

After dusting himself off, Matthew turned to Desmond and saw that his legs were broken. Blood oozed out from the injury where the bone was protruding, and his legs hung down limply.

Matthew rushed over and took off his shirt, wrapping it around Desmond's legs to stop the bleeding. But it didn't do much, so he pulled out a silver needle to try acupuncture.

After trying both methods to stop the bleeding, he finally managed to stop it.

With his face contorted in pain, Desmond yelled, "My legs are done for! I can't work anymore. How am I going to support my son? What about his house loan? And what's going to happen to my parents' retirement?"

Vernon pulled over and got out of the car. He was shocked to see Desmond injured, but he quickly recomposed himself.

It was nothing but a broken leg, so it was a small issue. A little cash would sort it out.

Vernon walked over. "I'll pay for your broken leg. Why do you bring up your parents, your kid, and even a house loan? Are you trying to rip me off?"
