Rachel caught sight of Matthew, and her dull eyes lit up briefly before returning to normal.
"Did you get everything sorted out?"
Matthew hummed in acknowledgment but frowned when he saw Tracy. After he turned down the idea of having the three of them in a relationship, Tracy had been stirring up trouble.
Seeing her around, he couldn't shake the feeling that she was up to something.
Tracy chuckled as she gazed at Matthew. "Are you here to clear things up with Rachel? Let's hear it. I'm curious what kind of excuse you'll come up with this time."
Matthew shook his head. "I didn't come here for Rachel. I'm here to talk to you."
Why? Tracy was taken aback. "What do you need from me?"
Since Tracy had suggested a relationship between the three of them, things had completely fallen apart between her and Matthew. She felt like there was nothing left to discuss with him.
Matthew coldly stated, "A new person named Paul joined the research institute. Did you hire him?"
Tracy nodded. "That's right. A friend recommended him. He's a top-notch talent. Haven't you checked him out online? Getting him to join us wasn't easy. Honestly, you owe me one for this."
With a grim expression, Matthew responded, "How about I thank you with some slaps?"
Tracy's expression changed as she said in a huff, "What's that supposed to mean, Matthew? I worked so hard to recruit this talent. You're so ungrateful, and you even think about smacking me."
Matthew sternly replied, "For the past ten years, Professor Bolton's research has been in the global spotlight. You wouldn't believe how many people are trying to steal the data.
"I'm already struggling to keep them at bay, but you just invite them in? What exactly are you thinking?"
Tracy jumped in surprise. "Is Professor Bolton's research really that influential? Why haven't I heard of any breakthroughs all these years then?"
Matthew coldly added, "As far as I know, at least three of her findings are classified as national secrets. There are results, but you're simply not qualified to know about them."
Things suddenly clicked in Tracy's mind. "So that's why. No wonder Professor Bolton never accepted Paul.
"I ended up assigning Paul to Silas' lab to work on telomere research. The telomere research project doesn't involve any sensitive technology, so it won't affect the company's interest."
Matthew solemnly explained, "The telomere project is much more important. The Clark family has found a way to extend telomere. Even though it only increases the lifespan by a few years, it's a monumental step in the quest of prolonging human lifespan."
Tracy glared at Matthew with frustration. He was obviously being difficult on purpose, making a fuss over nothing.
With exasperation, she looked at Matthew. "Don't go bossing me around, Matthew. You even said that was the Clark family's findings.
"How is this related to the telomere research we just started? You can't be claiming that Silas, a traditional medicine doctor, is better than the Clark family's researchers, are you?"
Matthew continued, "You're spot on. Sara from the Clark family came to Lambda City just to bring Silas on board for their telomere project. He is crucial in the telomere research."
Tracy sported an apologetic look. "I-I have no clue about that."
Matthew snarled, "You fool!"
Tracy gritted her teeth in anger. She knew she was wrong, but did Matthew have
to put it like that? He was definitely using this matter to hassle her.
After thinking for a moment, Tracy turned to Rachel. "Did you hear that, Rae? I'm your best friend, and he's talking to me like this!"
