When she heard no response, Wen Yue called out, sounding perplexed, âDongfang, are you listening?â
In an entirely normal tone, Hai Xiaotang said, âSorry, Dongfang Yu is asleep. Iâll have him call you back later.â
Wen Yue, who had probably not expected Hai Xiaotang to answer, fell silent for a moment and then said, âMiss Hai, itâs nothing important. Itâs a business matter. Have Dongfang Yu give me a call when he wakes up.â
âAlright.â After she had said this, Hai Xiaotang hung up. Her mood grew gloomy, and no matter what, she couldnât seem to cheer up.
She knew Dongfang Yu was planning to open a branch in B City, but hadnât he mentioned not collaborating with the Wen Family?
Then what was the purpose of Wen Yueâs call?
Could it be that they were having some sort of covert affair under the guise of business?
Hai Xiaotang shook her head vigorously, trying to rid herself of these wild thoughts.
Dongfang Yu wouldnât betray her. If he truly liked another woman, he could just dump her; there was no need to hide anything.
Yet, she couldnât shake off the feeling that there was something off between those two.
A womanâs intuition is often accurate. In any case, Hai Xiaotang was convinced that there was more to their relationship than met the eye!
Dongfang Yu didnât wake up until the afternoon.
With no one present in the room, he got up, freshened up in the bathroom, and then went downstairs.
As he walked into the living room, he was met with a strange smell.
Hai Xiaotang was just coming out of the kitchen, holding a durian she had just peeled.
Seeing Dongfang Yu, she smiled brilliantly and asked, concern apparent in her voice, âHoney, youâre awake! How are you feeling? Are you better now?ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Dongfang Yuâs eyes flickered.
For some reason, his instincts were telling him something was off with Hai Xiaotang. As to what was off, he wasnât sure. He just felt she was acting strange.
Masking his confusion, he nodded, âMuch better, Iâm fine.â
âThatâs good. Hurry and come eat this freshly peeled durian!â Hai Xiaotang set the durian on the coffee table, beckoning him over, her eyes crinkling with a smile.
Dongfang Yu sat down and eyed the durian with distaste, âYou like eating this?â
âNo, I prepared this for you.â Hai Xiaotang offered him a piece, âI worked so hard to take care of you while you were unwell. So, consider this durian as a reward for your hardship. Eat up quickly â thereâs even half of it left in the kitchen! Itâs all yours, see how kind I am?â
Dongfang Yu raised an eyebrow, âAll for me?â
Hai Xiaotang nodded, her expression innocent, âYes, theyâre all yours! This is the same durian you kneeled on last time. I had the kitchen preserve it, and itâs just right to be eaten.â
By this point, Dongfang Yu was completely sure that something was up with Hai Xiaotang.
Pinching her nose, he scoffed, âOut with it. What kind of prank are you planning on pulling using a durian to torment me?â
Knowing full well he detested this fruit, yet insisting he eat it â if it wasnât born out of dissatisfaction, then what was it?
Hai Xiaotang put on a heartbroken expression, âI was truly being nice to you, how could it be torment? Dongfang Yu, you have hurt my feelings! Humph, as punishment, you must finish eating the durian now!â
Dongfang Yu stared at her with amusement, âWhat did I do, little one, to upset you?â
Thinking about something, his eyebrows creased in suspicion, âDid I⦠did I call out for Lin Xinxin in my sleep again?â
Hai Xiaotang suddenly broke into an ill-omened smile, âIf you dare call out her name again, Iâm not just going to make you eat durian fruit. Iâll make you eat the durian rind!â
