Now that I had liquidated my stocks and had some run-ins with the distant family branches, I figured it would be wise to stop by a nearby weapon store to pick up a simple portable weapon.
I planned to visit the Military Tech Headquarters in a month to get Seolyiâs custom armor, so a serious weapon could wait until then. For now, I just needed a basic self-defense item, something simple to carry for emergencies.
Butâ¦
Bang!
1 point.
At the shooting range attached to the store, I had fired ten shotsâand only managed to hit the target once. That single hit was a measly one-point shot, meaning it barely clipped the edge of the target.
ââ¦.â
Trying to play it off, I casually lowered the gun, acting like it was nothing.
âWow!â
Soo-ah marveled.
âBoss, Iâve never seen a single point before.â
ââ¦Itâs my first time shooting; isnât it normal?â
âBut itâs a gun with a scope, and you got nine misses and one point⦠and it was only a ten-meter targetâ¦.â
ââ¦.â
With nothing to say, I set the gun down on the counter.
âItâs all the (former) Go Muyeolâs fault.â
And itâs not just blaming someoneâitâs genuinely true. Holding the gun makes my hands shake uncontrollably! How am I supposed to hit anything like this?
âSir, itâs normal not to hit your target the first time you shoot. But if youâre finding it difficult, how about this model?â
The sales associate flashed a business smile and recommended a different gun. The one Iâd tried had a scope, while this new one was a bare handgun.
Wouldnât that be even harder to hit with?
âThis model comes with an auto-aiming module. Itâs synchronized with the trajectory tracking in the bullet, so itâll help guide the bullet toward the target.â
âSo, I just shoot, and itâll hit?â
âUh⦠not quite. But if you aim close to the target and fire, itâs designed to head in the right direction as much as possible.â
âSounds pricey.â
âYes⦠a bit. But itâs worth every won.â
I took the gun he handed me, loaded it, and fired at the target.
Bang!
9 points.
âOh?â
I fired a few more times. My shots consistently ranged between seven and nine points, without a single miss.
âThis isnât bad.â
Considering it was only a temporary weapon, this would more than do.
âUh⦠Boss, that modelâ¦â
Soo-ah whispered to me.
âItâs got a high misfire rate, so itâs not often used. If there are more than two people in front of you, itâs uncertain who itâll hit.â
ââ¦.â
So basically, unless Iâm in a war zone, itâs impractical. What if I accidentally hit someone like Soo-ah?
âIf you pair it with an eye implant, the accuracy improves, but⦠youâre not able to get an eye implant, sir.â
âNot able? Why do you think that?â
âPardon?â
â?â
Soo-ah looked at me, a bit disoriented.
âArenât chaebol heirs⦠strictly against implants? Even you havenât had one, sir⦠and I doubt the chairman would allow itâ¦.â
âIs that⦠right?â
Well, I hadnât gotten one because of my possession memoriesâ¦
Thinking about it, though, seeing that Go Muyeolâs body didnât have any enhancements, Soo-ahâs probably right.
But I was planning to have Seolyi trained to get an implant.
âAnyway, that gun is almost impossible to use without an implant, even if you do have one.â
âThen what about you? Youâd be able to use it. Want me to buy it for you?â
âI donât need it. Iâm a deadeye, after all.â
âYouâre that good?â
âIâve even won shooting contests around here. I was quite the skilled officer, you know.â
âOh? Really?â
Soo-ah picked up a gun, ready to demonstrate.
Without even close comparison, she shot rapid-fire, hitting the 10-point mark with nine out of ten shots, with the last shot just barely missing at nine points. It didnât even take her five seconds to score all ten hits.
âOoooh.â
âHehe.â
Soo-ah tilted the gun and blew on the muzzle. I hadnât expected her to be this proficient.
âWhat about Seolyi?â
ââ¦.â
Baek Seol silently picked up a gun.
Then, even faster and with higher accuracy than Soo-ah, she scored near-perfectly.
âWow, as expected of a knight.â
ââ¦.â
Maybe itâd be better just to get them weapons.
That seems more sensible.
In the end, I left the store having armed Soo-ah and Seolyi instead of buying anything for myself. I did pick up one gun, thoughâthe auto-aim model.
Although thereâs a chance of accidental misfires, it should be fine in a situation where there are only enemies in front. Or Iâll just try my best to aim carefullyâ¦.
âMy real weapon will be custom-made at Military Tech Headquartersâthe most expensive one.â
After all, this is just something I plan to carry temporarily. This will do for now.
At Military Tech, I intend to commission a fully armored suit, one that costs hundreds of billions. In games, itâs almost like endgame gear, but in reality, with money, power, and connections, anything is possible. And Iâve got all that.
If possible, Iâll consider getting one for Soo-ah as well.
Honestly, judging by her stats, I thought Soo-ah might be a bit unsuitable as a combat âJojob(?)â, but given her skill with guns, it might be worth it.
ââ¦Master.â
As we got into the AV, Soo-ah hesitantly spoke up.
She looked as though something significant had happened.
âWhat is it?â
âThe Chief Prosecutor of Incheon⦠has been killed.â
âThe Chief Prosecutor? The one from the case with the butter guy?â
âYes! Apparently, someone appeared on his commute and blasted him with a Terminator.â
I turned on MeTube.
The entire algorithm was filled with news about the incident.
Some leaked footage was also circulating, showing a motorcycle speeding past the Chief Prosecutorâs car on his way to work and firing what appeared to be a Terminator weapon.
The surrounding vehicles were obliterated, and itâs estimated that at least twelve people were killed. âEstimated,â because people struck by the Terminator are torn to shredsâ¦.
ââ¦.â
This felt unsettling.
The Chief Prosecutor died?
And with a Terminator?
I dialed Na-eun. She picked up after about four rings.
âYes, Master. Whatâs going on?â
âYou sound calm. Iâd expect things to be chaotic.â
âAh, but a true elite prosecutor must remain composed in the midst of chaos. Itâs not like your âpresenceâ is going in and out of my privates right now.â
ââ¦The special prosecutor must be under pressure, right?â
âThereâs nothing concrete yet. Everythingâs in turmoil. But theyâll be pressured soon, considering the Chief Prosecutor was killed with a Terminator.â
A Terminator is a weapon permitted only under special prosecution, used solely by prosecutors. It requires biometric authentication, so only prosecutors registered with the prosecution officeâs server can use it.
Yet the assassin used a Terminator to kill the Chief Prosecutor.
Naturally, suspicion is now falling on the current special prosecution team.
âAre they trying to hinder the special prosecutor again?â
The helmeted assailant couldnât have done all this alone.
The idea that a single person killed the Chief Prosecutor with a Terminator weapon is absurd.
The Terminator, being a powerful weapon, leaves data on the prosecutionâs server.
Moreover, the assailant would have used implants to escape the scene, which also leaves a digital footprint.
In other words,
Using the Terminator to kill the Chief Prosecutor is effectively a self-admission of guilt.
So, if they specifically chose a Terminator over other weaponsâ¦
âItâs a message. And they must have backing.â
Someone powerful enough to hack the prosecutionâs server is involved.
Just like I had Seo Eun-mi cover up and mislead during an investigation.
âSomeone who can manipulate the server, kill the Chief Prosecutor without hesitation, and has a reason to do so.â
Thereâs only one answer:
Jeon Seong-hyunâs family.
âI understand their anger, but was this necessary? What a shame.â
âPardon?â
âNo, just talking to myself.â
âOur special prosecutor is currently conducting an internal investigation. Weâre checking the alibis of all prosecutors who have access to a Terminator and have requested logs from the prosecutionâs information department.â
âGood. Keep me posted if anything unusual comes up.â
âYes, sir~.â
I ended the call.@@novelbin@@
âI tried to settle things in a gentlemanly way, but theyâre pushing it.â
Jeon Seong-hyun dared to mess with my Jojob.
Honestly, I wanted to kill his entire family line, but I held back.
What crimes have his parents and siblings committed? Imagine how unfair it would be if they died out of nowhere.
But, unfortunately, theyâve chosen to take it further.
Now, I have no choice but to act.
Youâre saying itâs just the Chief Prosecutor who was killed?
Maybe so.
But since Iâm the one who killed their son, what guarantee do I have that the Terminator aimed at the Chief Prosecutor wonât be turned on me next?
Thereâs none.
Once a crazed person has a weapon, they can aim it at me anytime.
âThe one thing that bothers me⦠why didnât they target me first?â
If it were me, I wouldâve gone for myself first.
Iâm the strongest target, so why waste time killing the Chief Prosecutor and giving me time to prepare?
Suddenly, Go Minjiâs words came to mind.
âThe parents, maybe. But the family doesnât end with the mother and the guy you beat to death, right? All those connectionsâthey wonât all be united for revenge, will they?â
âOh⦠could it be?â
âThere are so many cowards. Theyâre even getting in each otherâs way to avoid drawing trouble to themselves.â
âCould it be theyâre deliberately doing this as a warning to me?â
