I deliberately chose vulgar words to see how she’d react.

Would she get angry?

Deny it?

It was hard to imagine that a woman this beautiful had never once used her body in a corrupt police force.

It was more of a punishment than anything else, but I made it sound like I was moving up in life.

“I’m going to hire Seo Ah-ram as my secretary and send her to training at Go-ryeo Prestige. She’s a total civilian with no connection to this world.”

“So that’s why you paid her hospital bill.”

“My secretary can’t be bothered by pointless problems.”

“… But if you send her off for training, you’ll be short a secretary again. It won’t be a short program, right?”

“I’ll just have to hire another one. Someone who can start working right away.”

I bit down on the cigarette between my lips.

I wanted to light it, but since we were in a hospital, I held off.

Seo Ah-ram came down about 10 minutes later.

She had freshened up her makeup and was looking around nervously.

Im Soo-ah raised her hand, calling her over.

Spotting us, Seo Ah-ram approached with a slightly tense expression.

When she saw Im Soo-ah standing beside me, she flinched, then bowed her head to me.

“Thank you again for earlier. But, um… Why did you do that?”

“Because you’re hot and pretty.”

Her expression darkened.

“I’m looking for a secretary right now. I’d like you to take the job.”

“He’s the heir of the Go-ryeo Group. His name is Go Mu-yeol. Seems he’s taken a liking to you, Ah-ram.”

I didn’t bother giving her my business card (not that I even had one).

But since Im Soo-ah was standing next to me in her police uniform, she seemed to believe it.

“Go-ryeo Group…? But why is a police officer involved in this?”

I stood up and approached her.

Seo Ah-ram flinched and stepped back.

“I’ll get your mother the treatment she needs.”

“!!”

“Of course, you’ll have a salary as my secretary too. What do you think?”

Her eyes widened in shock.

“You know your situation is hopeless as it is, right? Those loan sharks? They’re not lending you money to help. They want to drag you down and use you. It’s only a matter of time before you’re passed around. How many men will it take?”

“Aren’t you being too harsh?”

“It’s not me being harsh—it’s your situation that’s a mess. Would it change anything if I sugarcoated it?”

Her face turned bitter, and tears welled up in her eyes.

But she didn’t argue.

That just showed how cornered she was.

By the time the story started in ’77, she was confident and ready to take on the world.

But at this point, she was mentally shattered.

A little pressure, and she’d crumble like soft candy.

“If you work as my secretary, that won’t happen. I’ve got a strong possessive streak. I’ll get rid of those pests, and I’ll make sure your mom gets the treatment she needs.”

It appeared like she was trying to swallow her emotions, her facial muscles twitched several times before she finally spoke.

On the way home, Im Soo-ah was driving, while Seo Ah-ram sat next to me, stiff and tense.

The scenery outside the window flew by. The sky was now dark, and neon lights flashed brightly from all directions.

I called Chief Han.

Despite being busy with his transfer, he always answered my calls promptly.

– “Yes, sir. This is Chief Han.”

“I found a secretary. I’ll send you the address and her contact info. Come by tomorrow morning and pick her up.”

– “Are you instructing me to start her training? Understood.”

“Also, her family situation is a bit messy. Clean it up properly, and make sure no shady people get involved.”

– “Understood. Anything else?”

“There’s one more person. She’s a police team leader. The…”

“You heard that? She wants to stay close as part of a dispatch. Make that happen. Shouldn’t be an issue, right?”

– “Of course, sir. I’ll handle it without any problems. Should she start training tomorrow as well?”

“Nah, she’s good. Just send her some simple materials or assign someone to guide her.”

– “Yes, sir. I’ll send someone trustworthy. Thank you, and have a peaceful night.”

After hanging up, I looked over at Seo Ah-ram.

She had accepted my offer but still looked nervous, her head bowed.

Even her distressed state made her appear beautiful, so I couldn’t help but stare at her.

She glanced at me out of the corner of her eye, and when our gazes met, she quickly looked straight ahead.

The sight triggered a surge of desire.

I wanted to do something right there in the car.

‘… Hold it together.’

But I restrained myself.

While it wasn’t impossible to do it here, I didn’t want her first time to be like this, especially since Seo Ah-ram wasn’t ready yet.

I wanted her to complete her training, develop some loyalty and competence, and then claim her.

‘I’ll hold back and take it out on Im Soo-ah later.’

We arrived at the Songdo mansion.

It was even bigger and more luxurious in person than it looked in the app.

Of course, the hotel rooms had been lavish too, but since those were rentals, I didn’t feel much attachment.
