[Donaldâs Perspective]
I watched Margaret walk away and saw Angel smiling smugly beside me.
Iâd seen the look in Margaretâs eyes when she spoke. It wasnât filled with grief or anger, as Iâd expected. It was unexpectedly calm. Although you could tell that there were turbulent undercurrents under that calm surface, you couldnât tell much about her emotions.
Defeated by that look, I nodded automatically.
Margaret didnât say anything more. She just turned and left. I noticed that Armstrong left with her.
It occurred to me that Margaret might not be as fragile as Iâd thought. Before she met me, sheâd been doing the best she could. Iâd wanted to be her support, to keep her completely under my wing. But it wasnât as if she hadnât been through setbacks and storms. She might be stronger inside than I knew.
âCarry everything up. Put my luggage separately.â
My thoughts were interrupted by Angelâs voice beside me. I frowned at her.
âWhat are you going to do?â
âIâm moving my luggage to my residence.â
âIâve already asked Elliot to arrange accommodation for you.â
âThatâs their place, not mine,â Angel said casually. âElliot and I swapped rooms. Iâve asked him to take them there.â
I looked around and realized that the assault team had left. Angel and I were the only ones left.
Finally, I didnât have to hide my emotions anymore. âWhat are you doing here?â I demanded.
âIâm the commander of the assault team. You dispatched the team. Iâm here as a matter of course.â
âHow did you get into the assault team?â
âSneaked in?â Angel laughed. âDonât underestimate me, Donald. Iâve always been the best fighter. Maybe you can try me. I wonât be any worse than Elliot.â
Angel leaned in again and said, âElliot told me about the little she-wolf, but I donât care. How can she help you? Sheâs just a worthless she-wolf. Donald, your mate should be me. Iâm the one whoâs worthy of you.â
Angelâs breath was inches away. I took two steps back to keep my distance from her.
âThatâs none of your business,â I said coldly. âI wonât allow you to stay near me. Go back to where you belong.â
Angel was embarrassed by my repeated rejections. She restrained her playful expression and looked at me with a complicated gaze.
I met her gaze with an unrelenting and authoritative look.
She should understand that this was not something to be discussed. We did not make promises to each other in the past. Even if we did, now that I have found my mate, everything in the past should be over.
âYou never used to be so heartless, Donald.â She sighed.
If possible, I didnât want to be so heartless to Angel. I felt that we parted ways amicably back then. However, if she kept pestering me and didnât know how to let go, I would have to treat her coldly.
âMargaret is already my mate, the future queen. You know what happens when you disrespect the queen. I wonât hold you accountable today, but I wonât allow this to happen again. Itâs not appropriate for you to be here. Iâll send for a new commander of the assault team. Go back.â
âAre you really not going to talk about friendship at all?â
âIâm already doing you a favor by not holding you accountable.â
âDonât be stupid, Donald. You need me now. Iâve already heard from Elliot about the current situation. Iâm the only person you lack now. Moreover, this assault team can only be most effective under my direction.â Angelâs expression became serious.
I looked at her noncommittally.
I wasnât going to back down on this. Right now, there was no way I was going to tolerate anyone or anything hurting Margaret.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âAll right, all right. I wonât cause any more trouble for that little she-wolf of yours. Is that okay?â Angel threw up her hands. âBut as the commander of the assault team, your security and protection is my responsibility. I have to be near you.â
âLet Elliot handle it.'â
âMy authority is above Elliotâs. He has no authority over me.â
âIs it above mine too?â
âDonât be so imperious, Donald. I promised I wonât do anything.â
I looked at her suspiciously. To be honest, I didnât trust her promise. If she didnât have any ulterior motives, she wouldnât have come here. She would be in trouble. I just wanted her away from here.
âPlease. You know Iâm the best person for the job right now. Everything in the past aside, what reason do you have for not letting me stay here? How are you going to explain this to the others?â
âYou shouldnât have come here.â
âBut Iâm already here.â
I felt a headache coming on because of this. I really couldnât kick Angel out so easily. Her role and motive for coming here were reasonable and legitimate on the surface, even though I knew that wasnât the case at all.
