Chapter 228
In the following days, Maggie once again took time out of her schedule to attend two or three more events.
She had bumped into Julia twice during these events. However, on both occasions, Franklin hadnât accompanied her.
By March, the rain had started to become more frequent.
After finishing a discussion session, Maggie noticed that it had begun raining outside. She had brought an umbrella with her, but she had left it in the car.
She started walking toward the entrance, planning to wait for the rain to lessen before leaving.
Before she could even reach the door, she spotted Julia, who was talking to someone. When she saw Maggie, her smile faded slightly.
At that moment, Franklin appeared with an umbrella in hand. It was clear he had come specifically to pick up Julia.
He took off his coat and draped it over Juliaâs shoulders.
Onlookers who were waiting for the rain to ease couldnât help but gaze at them with admiration, some even gasping in surprise.
Franklin, noticing Maggie, paused for a moment.
Maggie remained expressionless.
He quickly withdrew his gaze, reopened his umbrella, and walked off with Julia.
The wind was picking up that day, and with the coat on Juliaâs shoulders, even if some rain got past the umbrella, the coat would shield her from getting wet.
It was a thoughtful gesture, one that spoke of Franklinâs care and attention.
Soon, their figures disappeared through the entrance.
A while later, Franklinâs driver appeared from the parking lot, holding an umbrella in his hand. He approached Maggie and handed it to her.

âMadam, Mr. Wilson asked me to bring you this umbrella.â
Maggie didnât take it, instead replying, âNo need. You can take it back.â
Earlier, when Old Madam Wilson had mentioned that Franklin would try to get along with her for the sake of Isabella, he had shown concern for her at the last seminar.
Now, he was once again sending her an umbrella in front of Juliaâ¦
If Julia was okay with Franklin sending her an umbrella, it meant she was confident enough in their relationship to understand that Franklin wasnât doing it out of affection.
It was simply because of Isabellaâs request to show her a bit of kindness when needed.
The driver hesitated. âBut-â
Maggie cut him off. âHe wonât mind. Please go back.â
Seeing that she was resolute, the driver reluctantly took the umbrella and left.
After that, the driver didnât show up again.
However, the rain continued without any sign of stopping.
Maggie glanced at the time, contemplating whether to wait longer or brave the rain and leave.
At that moment, a familiar voice rang out before her.
âLet me walk you out. Iâll give you a ride.â
It was Harry.
It was already getting dark, and with the rain showing no signs of letting up, she wasnât sure how much longer sheâd have to wait.
Maggie didnât refuse. âThank you.â
Harry immediately removed his coat, seemingly about to offer it to her. But Maggie quickly stopped him,
saying,
âNo need. I have a spare set of clothes in my car. If my clothes get wet, Iâll change into those.â
Harry paused, not insisting any further. However, as they walked together, he positioned himself slightly

to block the wind for her.
As they descended the stairs, Maggie asked, âMr. Becker, youâre here for the event too?â
Harry shook his head. âNot exactly. Levi mentioned that you were here for the event a couple of days ago.
Recently, we didnât have any pressing work matters to discuss, so I havenât seen you in a while. I thought Iâd stop by to see you.â
Maggie smiled and nodded.
But then, noticing her slightly flushed ears from the cold, Harry gave a soft âhmâ and asked, âDo you have
time later? How about dinner?â
Since he had helped her before, and they still had business interactions, having a meal together didnât feel out of place.
Maggie considered it for a moment before answering, âSure.â
After arriving at the restaurant, they entered a private room, and once seated, Harry poured a glass of water for Maggie and asked, âDid you gain anything from the recent discussion sessions?â
âSort of,â Maggie replied.
She had attended the sessions mainly to spark new ideas for her research on the materials provided by Nolan to her and Johnny.
After attending a few of these events, she had indeed come up with some new directions.
Maggie paused for a moment before asking, âHowâs Daisy doing these days?â
âSheâs been doing much better since the second half of last year. She started school again this year and has made some new friends. Sheâs happy both at school and at home,â Harry replied.
After a brief pause, Harry continued, âBut she does mention you quite a bit. Next time, letâs all get together for a meal, what do you think?â
Maggie smiled and nodded. âSounds good.â
Once the conversation shifted from personal matters to work, they spent the rest of the meal discussing various professional topics. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant.
Previously, when Harry had tried to arrange a meeting under the guise of Daisy, Maggie had mainly

spoken to Daisy and completely ignored him.
But today, without Daisy present, they were able to engage in a normal conversation.
Harry could tell that Maggie was beginning to set aside any previous grievances, slowly starting to accept
him.
While it wasnât yet the kind of âacceptanceâ that would define a close relationship, there had definitely been significant improvement since their last interactions.
After the meal, they each went their separate ways.
