When Jimmy saw her, he was a little surprised. âMiss Miller?â
Maggie nodded. âHello.â
Seeing her, Jimmy smiled lightly. âMiss Miller, are you here to work at the base?â
Maggie shook her head. âNo, my professor asked me to come and help with something.â
Upon hearing this, Jimmy paused.
There were only a few people in the base who had the authority to bring in external personnel, and-
He quickly realized that Maggie and Johnny had a close relationship, though they werenât a couple. He immediately connected the dots. âYour professor⦠is it Mr. Nolan?â
Maggie nodded. âYes.â She was really just like Johnny, both students of Nolan.
He hadnât thought about it in this direction before. But now that he knew she was also a student of Nolan, it made sense why certain things had happened.
For example, why at the previous banquet, Johnny had emphasized that the latest project developed by Cole was largely thanks to her; or why at his grandfatherâs art exhibition and the political and business seminar that Rex had attended, his father had shown so much interest in herâ¦
His father might have already known she was Nolanâs student. But if she was just a student of Nolan, it wouldnât explain why his father paid so much attention to her. Perhaps-
As he thought about the two new projects that Cole had launched, which had caused a stir, everything suddenly became clear to him.
He looked at her, momentarily speechless. Maggie appeared calm and reserved, neither arrogant nor restless.
From just her outward appearance, he would never have guessed that someone so young had already achieved such outstanding accomplishments.
After a long pause, they sat down in the cafeteria. Jimmy asked, âHow long are you planning to stay at the
base?â

âIâm not sure, it depends on my professorâs plans,â Maggie said.
Then, remembering that their last meeting had been about two or three months ago, she added, âItâs rare to run into you when Iâm outside. Do you usually have a busy training schedule?â
Jimmy replied, âYeah, and pilots donât get many breaks.â
Since Jimmy didnât have much time to eat, he chatted with Maggie for a while before excusing himself to attend to something else.
The next time Maggie saw Jimmy was two days later during the mannedâunmanned combat trial.
The soâcalled mannedâunmanned combat was an aerial battle between a fighter jet controlled by AI and one piloted by a human.
Once the trial ended and the data was collected, Maggie and the other researchers began modifying algorithms and analyzing the new data based on the battlefield situation.
When Jimmy entered the department where Maggie was working, he saw her and the other researchers busy at work.
He had been there for a while before Maggie finally noticed him.
She paused for a moment, nodded at him, and then buried her head back in her work. Maggie stayed at the base for nearly ten days before leaving.
She left in the early hours of the morning and arrived home just as it was getting light. As soon as she opened her phone, she was met with nearly twenty missed calls.
The callers included Glen, Harry, Isabella, and even Franklin, who had called twice.
Maggie could pretty much guess the reason for the calls from Isabella and Franklin without thinking too much.
However, Glen had been the first to call and had also called the most times.
She decided to return his call first.
Glen quickly picked up the phone. âFinally done with your work?â
âYes,â Maggie replied. âYou called meâis there something urgent? Did the issue get resolved?â
Glen said, âThere was something, but itâs been resolved.â

Monday, she wasnât around, and he had been worried something might have happened.
Later, he went to find Johnny and learned that she had to handle some family matters. Now that he knew she was fine, he was relieved.
