After the meal, Xu Yuan generously offered several gifts to Su Ting and Su Ci.
Su Ting, holding the box that was thrust into his hands, raised his eyes with a troubled look towards Gu Dai.
Gu Dai softly said, âJust accept it.â
Su Ting nodded, and with a smile towards Xu Yuan, he said, âGrandma, thank you.â
Xu Yuan waved her hand dismissively, âWeâre all family here, thereâs no need for thanks.â
Su Ci shifted his gaze from Su Ting and Gu Dai to Xu Yuan and said warmly, âGrandma, I have a meeting this afternoon and must leave now.â
Xu Yuan nodded, âAlright, Su Ci, make sure to come over for meals when youâre not too busy.â
Su Ci smiled in agreement, then turned and hurriedly left.
Suddenly, Xu Yuan noticed the box left on the sofa, âSu Ci forgot to take the gift box with him.â
Gu Dai halted her steps and after looking, said, âHe couldnât have gone far; Iâll see if I can catch up to give it to him.â
Su Ting spoke up, âIâll go.â
Gu Dai frowned, disapproving, âYouâre injured right now.â
Su Ting chuckled lightly, âIâve mostly recovered, and itâs only to the door; itâs not far.â
After saying this, he took the gift box from Gu Daiâs hand, âDaidai, you go ahead with your work. Iâll be back soon.â
At that moment, Gu Daiâs phone rang, a sudden meeting called by Zheng Ming starting in two minutes, forcing her to respond, âThen take it slow, and if heâs already left, weâll give it to him next time.â
Su Ting nodded, âAlright.â
Carrying the gift box, Su Ting walked out and, seeing Su Ciâs car still parked outside, his eyes lit up, and he moved towards it.
Yet, before he could get close, he heard Su Ciâs voice and instinctively stopped, hiding behind a nearby tree.
Su Ci: âFather, are you sure youâve ever considered me as your son?â
Su Ting couldnât hear the response, but suddenly, the usually calm Su Ci erupted in anger.
Veins bulged on Su Ciâs forehead as he spoke through clenched teeth, âMoreover, I wish you hadnât saved me, just let me die!â
Su Ci: âI know Daidai is my cousin; you donât need to remind me over and over! You want me to go against Daidai?â
Listening to each sentence, Su Ting was completely stunned. He wanted to continue listening, but was abruptly interrupted by the loud bang of the car door slamming shut, followed by the fading sound of departure.
Even long after the car had left, the shock in the depths of his eyes had not dissipated. He felt as though he had been struck by lightning, leaving his limbs stiff and numb.
It took him a while to even begin to process what he had heard, his mind a tangled mess, and only when he returned home and saw Gu Dai working did some sense of reality return.
Su Ting and Su Ci had met in an orphanage, and he was happy that Su Ting had found his father.
But he couldnât understand why Su Ciâs father wanted to harm Daidai, and whether Su Ci knew who was behind the ship incident. Was he also planning to go against Daidai?
After finishing her work, Gu Dai noticed Su Tingâs dazed expression.
She asked softly, âWhatâs wrong?â
Su Ting instinctively began, âMy brother, heâ¦â
He stopped mid-sentence, realizing he had no evidence, and unsure of Su Ciâs intentions. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Gu Dai, puzzled, pressed, âWhat about Su Ci?â
Su Ting said quietly, âHe left too quickly; I didnât manage to give him the gift box.â
Gu Dai gently ruffled his hair, âItâs okay.â
Feeling Gu Daiâs gaze, Su Ting couldnât help but avert his eyes, quickly changing the subject, âDaidai, have you finished your work?â
Gu Dai confirmed, âYes.â
Seeing Su Ting reluctant to speak, she sighed and asked softly, âWhat happened just now?â
Su Ting hesitated, âHm?â
Gu Dai, looking intently at Su Ting, said seriously, âYou seemed distracted earlier; are you hiding something from me?â
Su Ting froze, torn about whether to share what he had witnessed.
Before he could decide, Gu Dai asked, âIs your leg hurting?â
After saying this, her hand touched Su Tingâs shin, asking softly, âDoes this hurt?â
Feeling her touch, Su Ting was momentarily lost for words, nodding reflexively, âIt hurts.â
Looking at Gu Daiâs serene face, he couldnât resist playing up his discomfort, with a pitiful tone, âIt really hurts.â
Gu Dai sighed in resignation, âI shouldnât have let you go deliver the gift box to Su Ci..â
