The gardener took a deep breath and tried to lighten the mood, âThink about it positively; trimming and decorating the castleâs garden pays as much as we make in a month!â
The driver grumbled, âI just want my holiday!â
The gardener shot him a disdainful look, âYou have no ambition!â
After exchanging glances with Su Ting, Gu Dai nodded, signaling she understood his plan.
Once the vehicle reached a secluded area, Gu Dai and Su Ting swiftly approached, using a sleeping powder to knock out the gardener and the driver, and then changed into their clothes.
Su Ting drove the vehicle towards the castle, cautioning, âThere are people ahead.â
Gu Dai, observing two guards in front of the castle, advised softly, âLetâs stay calm and act natural.â
Su Ting responded obediently, âOkay.â
The guard stopped the vehicle, âHold up.â
Su Ting pulled the car to a stop and, putting on an uneasy expression, quietly asked, âOfficer, may I ask if thereâs something wrong?â
Pleased by being addressed as âofficer,â the guard instinctively raised his chin before asking, âWhat are you here for?â
Gu Dai replied softly, âOfficer, we are gardeners hired by Miss Aad for landscaping and decoration.â
The guard nodded, âThat makes sense, but I havenât seen you before. Why is that?â
His eyes narrowed suspiciously as he scrutinized Su Ting and Gu Dai.
Su Ting explained, âItâs our first time working at the castle, which is why you find us unfamiliar.â
Convinced, the guard allowed them to proceed, âI see, go ahead.â
Gu Dai and Su Ting breathed a sigh of relief, but their tension returned when another guard suggested, âWe should report new faces to our superiors, just in case they are intruders.â
Gu Dai, while panicking internally, maintained her composure, âOfficer, we are genuine gardeners. Please trust us.â
The second guard asked indifferently, âIf youâre indeed genuine gardeners, why stop me from reporting?â
Gu Dai shook her head, âIâm not stopping you, but the garden urgently needs our service. If we delay, Miss Aad might blame us.â
The guard saw the logic in her argument, âGo on in.â
Su Ting nodded in response and drove into the castle.
Upon their departure the guardsâ conversation was still audible to them.
âWhy did you let them in just like that?â
âThey kept calling us officers. Letâs trust them this once. Besides, reporting up is a hassle. Itâs better to avoid trouble when we can.â
âFair enoughâ¦â
Following the signs to the garden, Su Ting and Gu Dai began trimming the landscape while keeping an eye on their surroundings. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Gu Dai whispered to Su Ting, âI noticed a corner without surveillance. You keep trimming here; Iâll message my big brotherâs people about our situation.â
Su Ting nodded, cautioning her, âBe careful, Daidai.â
With an âokâ gesture, Gu Dai reassured him, âDonât worry.â
As Su Ting continued his work, Aad spotted him and was immediately intrigued. She instructed her maid, âBring that man here.â
The maid promptly called Su Ting, âMiss Aad wants to see you.â
Su Ting, concealing his concern, followed and asked softly, âMiss Aad, may I know why youâve summoned me?â
Aad, with a smirk, commanded, âLook up.â
Reluctantly, Su Ting raised his head.
Impressed by Su Tingâs features, Aad brightly announced, âMy birthday party is tomorrow, and youâre invited to attend with me!â
Su Ting frowned, âBut I am a gardener, I have workâ¦â
Aad interrupted, âI know.â
Her gaze narrowed slightly as she smiled, âThen work overtime tonight to finish your tasks, and you can attend my birthday party tomorrow.â
The maid whispered, âMiss, heâs just a lowly gardener. Bringing him might invite ridicule.â
Aad, shaking her head with a laugh, reasoned, âBeing seen with lower-class people might actually make me appear more approachable, enhancing my image in their eyes. It could work in my favor..â
