2/3 09:10 Tue, 18 Feb The Deadly Assassin Robin Chapter 1039 Lack of Integrity After finishing her paperwork, Marrisa turned to Eugene with a challenging look.
âIâve entered my personal information. Well? Arenât you going to lock me up?â
Shirley gave Robin another anxious tug. âShould we make a call?â she whispered.
The Finished Robin, however, remained calm. With a faint smile, he reassured her, âNo need. Marrisa can handle this herself.â
Eugene felt his face grow hot with embarrassment. He never imagined that Marrisa, a woman he had dismissed as unimportant, would turn out to be a foreignerâone with ties to the elite Rogarios, no less. If they detained her, it would spell big trouble.
After weighing his options, Eugene swallowed his pride and forced a smile, replacing his earlier contempt with an overly friendly expression.
âHaha... This is just a misunderstanding, Mrs. Holt,â he chuckled awkwardly.
A glance at Marrisaâs details confirmed everything.
Trying to smooth things over, he added, âI enjoy cracking jokes. Locking up an esteemed international guest like you? That would be absurd. Please, have a seat.â
Marrisa snatched back her identification, eyes flashing with anger. âI wasnât joking!â
She turned to Joanna, gently squeezing her hand. âRenee, I feel sorry for you. Weâre not letting them get away with it todayânot without proof!â
Joanna sighed. âMarrisa, this is a lot of trouble for you.â
Marrisa waved her off with a light laugh. âTrouble? Donât be sillyâweâre family. Robin put me in this mess, but if someone is trying to frame you, we canât just sit back and do nothing!
âWhoever is behind these accusations is up to no good, and I wonât stop until I expose them! No one is going to tarnish your name with their dirty schemes!â
For a moment, Eugene was at a loss. He could use his authority to deal with Robin and Joanna, but Marrisa was a whole different challenge.
Brenda, who had remained quiet the entire time, swept her gaze across the austere interrogation hall of the Inspection Bureau. A heavy thought settled in her mind.
âRobin, ever since I started at Brighton University, Iâve come to realize something deeply unsettling,â she said. âWhy is there such a huge gap between the things Iâve been taught my whole life and the reality I see now?
âI remember Mr. Field giving a lecture at Brighton about serving the people, with Ms. Lopez by his side. At the time, his words moved meâI even felt inspired.
âBut looking back now, I see how foolish I was. Everything he said was a lie. Theyâre the real villains.
âTheyâve spent so much effort preaching about honesty, kindness, and righteousness, urging us to strive for a better world. But now I understand their true intent.
1/3 09:10 Tue, 18 Feb Chapter 1039 Lack of Integrity Finished âThey fill our heads with ideals of morality and virtue, not to make the world a better place, but to keep us blind while they indulge in their corruption!â
Robin gently ruffled Brendaâs hair and shook his head with a wry smile. âSo reality has opened your eyes, and even Marrisa, who usually avoids conflict, is now using her strengths to push back. I never thought Iâd see this day.
âJust how vile must someone be to force this kind of change in you two...â
Before he could finish, a sharp ringtone pierced the heavy silence in the hall.
Eugene scowled, annoyed by the interruption, and instinctively reached for his phone, ready to silence it. But the name on the screen made his breath hitchedâMicah Reed, the director of the Inspection Bureau.
Quickly regaining his composure, he turned to Marrisa with an apologetic bow. âExcuse me, Mrs. Holt, I... I need to take this call.â
Answering in a hurried tone, he said, âGood evening, Mr. Reed. Itâs quite late. Is there something urgent?â
A furious voice exploded from the other end of the line. âEugene, what the hell are you doing? I just got a call from the Brighton University Funding Foundation. They claim youâve detained Joannaâthe sister of a former Special Operations Military Region commander. Is this true?â
Eugene felt a chill run down his spine. He hadnât expected Joannaâs background to be that complicated.
Micah continued, âDo you have any idea what kind of mess youâve made? The higherâups have repeatedly stressed that the Inspection Bureau exists to serve the people. Every case must be handled with extreme caution!
âUsing force and resorting to aggressive tactics while enforcing the law will have severe social repercussions for those involved.
âSuch actions will tarnish the Inspection Bureauâs reputation in the eyes of the public!
âIâve emphasized repeatedly in management meetings that we canât rely on assumptions or personal biases when handling cases. We must humble ourselves and consider situations from the other partyâs perspective.
âIâve already looked into the matter. Joanna received a substantial scholarship while studying at Brighton Universityâan aid package that Robin and Mrs. Holt arranged through negotiations with Brighton University.
âAll these accusations of bribery and illegal dealings? Completely fabricated! Youâre stirring up unnecessary trouble! Release them now!
âYouâre to issue a public apology in writing on the Inspection Bureauâs official notice board, acknowledging your mistakes to the affected parties.
âIf you refuse, then prepare to face an internal review by the AntiâCorruption Division!
âAlso, Wesson and Tracy are suspected of misconduct. Youâll personally take charge of the investigation. Every individual linked to this case will be thoroughly examinedâno exceptions!
âIf there is even the slightest sign of favoritism or coverâups, youâll bear the same consequences as the guilty!
âHow can we expect the public to trust that we stand for justice if our officials lack integrity? We canât 9/3 09:10 Tue, Chapter 1039 Lack of Integrity demand accountability from others if weâre in the wrong!â
Eugene felt a cold sweat break out across his back as he repeatedly agreed with Micahâs words.
**Finished Once the call ended, he wiped his forehead and took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. The few strands of hair left on his head drooped lifelessly by his cars, but he didnât even bother fixing them.
Straightening up, he approached Joanna and Robin. âMs. Leif, Mr. Ramsey, this was all a misunderstanding. Iâll make an official statement on the Inspection Bureauâs network and issue a public apology immediately.
âAvery, take care of it now!
âMrs. Holt, Mr. Ramsey, would this resolution be acceptable to you?â
As Robin and the others prepared to leave, Eugene quickly added, âSince this was just a misunderstanding, why donât we have a drink at the Inspection Bureauâs restaurant? My treat.
âOh, and Iâll also be forming an investigative team to thoroughly look into Tracy and Wessonâs cases.â
Robin paused midâstep, turning back with a smirk. âIâm not some hero trying to save the world. Whatever you decide to do is none of my business.
âBut rememberâstay away from my family, or a lot of people will end up dead.â
As Eugene watched Robin and his group walked away, his expression darkened, and a chilling glint flickered in his eyes.
