Chapter 1042
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
He was about to speak when Ameliaâs phone suddenly rang.
Amelia picked up her phone, and Warren caught a glimpse of the caller ID displaying the name Lucas.
âLucas, whatâs up?â Amelia asked.
âAmelia, could you please keep an eye out for me and see if Nadine is at your place? If you happen to spot her, give me a call right away.â Lucasâ voice sounded anxious.
Amelia was stunned. âWhatâs wrong? Is Nadine missing?â
âYeah, I brought her to the store today, but it got busy, and she disappeared in the blink of an eye. I checked the surveillance on my end, but all I saw was her riding her kidâs bike onto the street. Then, she went out of the cameraâs range. Iâve already reported it to the police,â Lucas -explained, âEarlier, Nadine mentioned that she wanted to play with Aiden again. Just in case she comes to your place, you could keep an eye out.â
Even Lucas himself felt that the likelihood of this happening was extremely slim. After all, Nadine was just a three-year-old child. Although he had taken her to the concession stand with him, a child that young wouldnât remember the way.
âAlright, Iâll keep an eye out. Iâll also search around my area. If you happen to find Nadine, tell me.â
âOkay,â Lucas answered.
Amelia called out to Matilda in the back room, and Matilda came out to help look after the store.
Matilda came out and was stunned to see Warren. She asked her daughter, âWhy is he here?â
âHeâs just here to discuss Aidenâs matter with me. Donât worry about it.â Amelia then told Matilda about Nadineâs disappearance.
After hearing this, Matilda immediately said, âYou should go and search for her right away! I can handle the store; you go look around the neighborhood.â
As Amelia was leaving the concession stand, Warren suggested, âHop in my car. I can drive you around the area. Itâll be faster.â
Amelia hesitated for a moment but eventually got into Warrenâs car. After all, finding Nadine was the top priority.
Warren started the car and drove slowly along the nearby streets while Amelia scanned the sides of the road, hoping to catch a glimpse of Nadine.
âDo you care a lot about this child?â Warren asked with some curiosity.
The rare hint of concern on her face seemed to show how much she valued the child.
âI like Nadine very much,â Amelia replied.
Warren came dangerously close to asking whether she was genuinely fond of the child or if it was because the childâs father was Lucas!
They had already crossed three streets without a sign of Nadine. Amelia didnât receive any news from Lucas either. She couldnât help but grow increasingly worried.
Three-year-old kids were the most likely to be abducted. Although security was good on Strico, she was still afraid that something bad might happen.
Just as Amelia was about to call Rosalie for help, Warren suddenly said, âYouâd rather ask Rosalie for help than let me help you?â
Confused, Amelia turned to look at Warren. She saw him steering the car to the side of the road. He then took out his phone and dialed a number.
âIâm Warren. Find someone for me. Her name is Nadine Graham, and sheâs a three-year-old girlâ¦â
Warren spoke to the person on the other end of the phone. He even mentioned the name of the market where Nadine had gone missing.
After Warren finished the call, Amelia looked at him in astonishment. âHow⦠How did you know that Nadine is three years old and the name of that market? I never told you these details!â
Warren gazed steadily at her. âI know much more than you think.â
âHave you investigated Lucas and me?â Amelia could only think of one explanation.
Warren shrugged without denying it.
Amelia wore a look of unease. âWhy did you investigate Lucas? Youâre not allowed to touch him!â
Warren sneered. He then unfastened his seat belt and leaned closer towards Amelia.
In that instant, Amelia went stiff. She felt as though she were enveloped in his presence.
âWhat⦠What are you trying to do?â she asked uncomfortably. She pressed her hands against his chest to create some distance between them.
Warren stared at the person in front of him. Time flew by. When they first met, she was so innocent and carefree. Her once pure and clear eyes had become burdened with so much heaviness. However, his love for her seemed to grow stronger with time.
That love was now infused with a profound sense of regret, etched into his very bones. It made this moment of closeness with her even more precious.
âYouâre telling me not to touch Lucas? Is that an order? Are you commanding me not to get near a man?â Warren said.
His deep voice was laced with a hint of danger.
Amelia bit her lips. She was afraid that saying the wrong thing might truly anger Warren, leading to consequences for Lucas.
Taking a deep breath, she replied, âLucas is a friend who helped me during a difficult time, and this has nothing to do with anything else. I donât want you to involve him in our issues.â
His eyes flashed slightly, âAre you talking for him? âYou know, you rarely speak for someone who cares about you. It seems that his friend is very important in your heart.â
âHe is a good person. In this society, good people often end up suffering. I donât want a good person to suffer because of me. I couldnât bear the guilt,â she explained.
For some reason, her words seemed to pierce Warrenâs heart once again.
Just then, Warrenâs phone rang. It was the person he had asked to help locate Nadine. The person informed him that Nadine had been found.
She had been discovered by a passerby on the way and was taken to the police station_ng âAlright, thank you. I owe you a favor,â Warren said.
The person on the other end chuckled. âHaha, itâs not easy for Mr. York to owe me a favor. Who is this little girl worth me finding her for you?â
âJust a girl with no real connection to me,â Warren replied. He ended the call and then turned to Amelia.
âNadine has been found and is at the police station.â
âAt the police station?â Amelia couldnât believe that they had found her so soon.
