Chapter 1061
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Aiden was stunned, his gaze fixed on his mother, a blank expression on his face.
âYou have a baby?â asked Aiden, surprised. To kids his age, he had only ague concept of how babies came into the world.
âIt was an accident. Amelia said vaguely. âBut Mommy hopes that this baby can be considered legitimate, so she wonât be the subject of gossip in the future.â
Aiden listened attentively, even though he didnât fully grasp the situation. and asked. âAre you worried that people will call this baby an illegitimate child in the future?â
Thatâs because the phrase âillegitimate childâ was the term he had heard most frequently from people when he was younger.
Whenever those people referred to him that way, they did so with a mix of sympathy, pity, and disdain in their expressions.
In the past, he was unaware of the meaning of that phrase.
However, as he grew older, he came to understand the meaning quite clearly.
Ameliaâs heart ached when she heard him say that. She realized just how much her son suffered because of her.
âIf⦠you canât accept it, then Iâllâ¦..â
Aiden replied, âNo, I donât mind. Whatever decision you make, Iâll support you. And⦠I donât want my future brother or sister to be called an illegitimate child either.â
He lowered his head as if on the verge of saying something else, but hesitated.
âWhatâs on your mind? You can always talk to Mommy,â Amelia said.
âMommy, after you get married, are we going to live with Daddy?â Aiden asked, his young face clearly showing his concern.
Clearly, he still held a strong aversion toward his father, Warren.
âNo,â Amelia clarified, âIâm only marrying him to obtain a marriage certificate. We wonât be living together. Iâm doing this solely to provide the baby with a legal identity.â Of course, this was contingent on Warrenâs agreement.
With these thoughts in mind, Amelia felt a sense of uncertainty and concern.
She understood that if her intention was genuinely to marry Warren and live with him, he would readily agree.
However, her current decision to marry him was solely to provide the child with a legal identity as a legitimate child, thus shielding the child from the weight of future gossip.
The following day, Amelia went to the hospital to visit Warren.
Upon seeing Amelia, Warren appeared somewhat surprised. However, he quickly sat up and asked, âWhy are you here? I must have startled you yesterday, didnât I? I⦠Iâm⦠but Iâm really glad that you agreed yesterday.â
The man, who had been at the helm of the York Group, had never exhibited nervousness when addressing tens of thousands of employees. Yet, now, in her presence, he was so jittery that he even spoke incoherently.
âAmelia, I⦠I will treat you and our children well in the future⦠No matter what you want me to do, I will!â he stammered.
She stared at him and said, âWill you really be willing to do whatever I ask of you?â
âYes, no matter what kind of requests you have, Iâll agree. Iâm even willing to give you my life!â he declared with unwavering conviction.
He was ready to give her everything.
âI donât need your life, but I need you to marry me,â Amelia stated.
Warren was momentarily stunned, and his face froze as if he had heard something utterly unbelievable.
He mused, âMarry her? She wants me to marry her?â
His lips quivered, and he spoke laboriously, as though he had expended all his strength. âYou⦠What did you say? Say it again.â His eyes filled with longing and hope.
âI said, I need you to marry me,â Amelia repeated calmly.
An ecstatic expression flickered across Warrenâs face. âItâs true! She really said that she wants us to get married. She still has me in her heart! She still has feelings for me!â he thought excitedly.
However, he then heard what she said next. âBut I hope we can get a divorce after the baby is born.
Also, weâll just get the marriage certificate. without holding any ceremonies. After the marriage, Iâll continue to live in my house, and youâll live in yours, just as it is now.â
The smile on Warrenâs face gradually faded. He stared at her in a daze, his face growing pale.
It turned out that she only wanted to marry him to provide the child with a legitimate identity, and she had already planned to divorce him within. a year, even before their marriage took place.
To make matters worse, even after their marriage, she didnât want to live with him and still wanted nothing to do with him.
He was nothing but a tool to her.
Warren gazed at Amelia with a blank expression and remained silent for an extended period.
Inside the ward, a heavy silence hung in the air as if the atmospheric pressure had suddenly dropped.
Amelia finally spoke again, breaking the silence. âCan you do that?â
Warren forced a bitter smile and murmured, âDo you have any feelings for me when you asked me to marry you?â
It would be great even if there was just a little.
Alas, her answer still disappointed him.
âNo,â she responded without a hint of hesitation in her voice.
A flicker of pain crossed Warrenâs eyes. He suddenly burst into laughter, but it was a pitiful and bitter laughter.
Amelia could only feel that his laughter bore down on her chest, leaving her breathless.
After a prolonged silence, Warrenâs laughter eventually stopped. He fixed his bloodshot eyes on her and uttered, âFine. Iâll agree to whatever you want.â
âIn that case, when youâre discharged from the hospital, please get in touch with me. Weâll go to City Hall to obtain the certificate,â Amelia said.
âOkay,â Warren replied.
Amelia turned around and left the ward.
Warren closed his eyes with a bitter expression and muttered, âSo⦠this is karma. Itâs Godâs retribution for me. Amelia, how cruel can you be to me? Canât I make you feel a shred of pity for me, even if I spend the rest of my life atoning for my sins?â
He could only bear it and couldnât complain or blame anyone.
That was because back then, he, too, had shown no mercy toward her.
He had brought this upon himself.
âIn a few days, I will register my marriage with Warren,â Amelia announced to Rosalie and Lillian in the restaurant.
Hearing this, both of them were taken aback.
Rosalie was aware that Amelia had decided to keep the baby, but she had no knowledge of Ameliaâs plan to marry Warren.
Lillian was even more surprised than her.
âAmelia, are you⦠pregnant? Are you and Warren back together?â Lillian felt like the world had just taken a sudden and unexpected turn.
âNo, weâre just getting a certificate to give the child a legitimate identity and prevent any gossip,â Amelia clarified. âA year later, I plan to divorce him. Weâll continue living separately and have no connection with each other.â
