Chapter 1062
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
âDid he agree?â Rosalie asked.
âYes,â Amelia said.
âWell⦠Anyway, I wish you all the bestâ Rosalie said.
âThank you. I hope so, too,â Amelia said.
Lillian was still lost and in shock. She didnât come back to her senses until Amelia waved and called out to her.
âThen⦠Then I shall prepare a wedding gift for you.â As soon as the words came out, Lillian immediately realized that she had said something wrong. After all, Amelia and Warren were not getting married because they were in love.
As expected, Amelia said, âItâs unnecessary. The marriage is just a temporary solution.â
As she said that, she glanced at Lillianâs belly again, âHow are you doing these days? Is there any sudden excessive fetal movement like last time?â
âNo.â Lillian said, âBut itâs really⦠a bit mysterious. Didnât my baby calm down as soon as that little boy touched my belly last time? He then said with certainty that I was having a girl.â
Both Rosalie and Amelia knew about it. Rosalie asked, âAnd then?â
âAnd then, when I had a regular B-scan a few days ago, I asked the doctor to check whether it was a boy or a girl, and it turned outâ¦â Lillian paused before she unconsciously lowered her voice and continued, âItâs indeed a girl. And the doctor is sure of it as there is little chance of mistakes at this stage of the pregnancy.â
Rosalie and Amelia exchanged a glance. Then, Amelia said, âMaybe itâs just a coincidence. That little boy must be talking nonsense, or⦠he might have heard from someone in his family about how to predict gender from the shape of the baby bump and then happened to guess it right from your belly shape.â
After all, that seemed to be the only possibility.
It was not necessarily because that little boy had the power of precognition or X-ray vision.
âBut his tone was too confident to be guessing, and that man following him didnât seem to doubt him at all as if⦠well, it was normal,â Lillian said mysteriously.
Rosalie said, âSo what do you think is going on with that little boy?â
âI wonder if he has any special ability-superpower and the like,â Lillian said.
âThatâs very imaginative of you.â Rosalie laughed and said, âI remember you also mentioned that the little boy said he would marry the child in your belly in the future.â
âThatâs right. If my future son-in-law has superpowers, then will my future grandson or granddaughter have it, tooâ¦â Lillianâs imagination began to run wild.
âArenât you afraid that your daughter wonât like that future son-in-law of yours, and then you wonât have any superhuman grandchildren?â Rosalie joked, while Amelia also had a rare smile on her lips.
âI wonât let him marry my daughter if she doesnât like him, no matter what!â Lillian said categorically, but then she seemed somewhat regretful and said, âBut that little boy is truly pretty, and I canât imagine how stunning he will be when he grows up. If I have him as my son-in-law, my daughter wonât seem to be at a loss either.â
Generally speaking, Lillian was still a sucker for good looks, and sometimes her mind would be swayed by peopleâs appearance.
The three of them chatted and laughed, talking about whether that little boy would become Lillianâs future son-in-law. For a while, the atmosphere became much more relaxed.
Amelia looked at the two friends in front of her. Every time she was with them, she would be glad that she had met such good friends.
There was another person who had helped her in that prison full of suffering, but she didnât know when she would be able to repay the kindness of that person.
Amelia felt gloomy when she thought about that. After all, she didnât have the contact information of that person, not to mention the chance of finding that person had become even slimmer since many years had passed.
A few days later, Amelia and Warren went to City Hall.
Amelia stared at those signs at the entrance of City Hall in a daze. She had once wished to go there after Warren proposed to her one day.
When she had gone to prison later, she stopped thinking about that and even thought she would never, in her life, set foot in City Hall for marriage.
But now, she was there because she was getting married to Warren.
âArenât you going in?â Warrenâs voice sounded beside her.
âYes, letâs go in,â Amelia replied and took a deep breath. However, her steps were so heavy that every step seemed like a struggle.
The two of them entered City Hall and then sat in the waiting area after getting a queue number.
At City Hall, marriages and divorces shared a common waiting area.
Shortly after Amelia had sat down, a woman sitting next to her asked in a low voice, âAre you here for a divorce, too?â
Amelia was startled for a moment. She then looked at other people in the waiting area.
People who went there to get married talked and laughed, while those who were there for a divorce ignored each other with cold faces.
She and Warren looked like they were getting a divorce.
Before Amelia could speak, the woman beside her said again, âIâm also here to get a divorce. I thought of him as a treasure before we were married, but after the marriage, I realized he was a scumbag. I did all the housework at home and took care of his parents and the children, but all he did was hand me some household expenses each month as if he was taking pity on me. If things didnât go well for him outside, he would even beat me up when he got home. Iâve had enough!â\
Amelia listened politely to the womanâs complaints about her marriage.
After a while, the woman seemed to have finished telling her story. Then, she sized Warren up and said to Amelia, âBut your man looks perfect on the appearance. Why do you want a divorce? Is he a playboy? Nowadays, the more good-looking a man is, the less reliable he will be. If you remarry after divorce, just find someone honest and stop looking for handsome menâ¦â
âWeâre not here for divorce but marriage.â Warrenâs voice suddenly came from the side, and his cold eyes swept over the woman.
The womanâs face was immediately filled with embarrassment, and she said to Amelia, âHey, why didnât you say earlier that you are here for marriage? You both sit here with a straight face without talking to each other. No one would have thought you were getting married!â
