Chapter 1078
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Everyone was taken aback, astonished by the young boyâs words.
He continued mumbling, âIf the only way for me to be with Yasmin in the future is to marry her, then Iâll marry her when she grows up. Besides me, she canât marry anyone else! If you agree, then I will save her mommy!â
âAre you really going to save her?â Rufus interjected in surprise.
The young boy paid no heed to Rufus and simply looked at Callum. âDo you agree?â
Callumâs heart was in turmoil at this moment.
He wondered whether agreeing would entail his daughter marrying this boy in the future. He realized he knew very little about the boy, and consenting would essentially bind his daughterâs entire life through this agreement.
âWhat if Yasmin doesnât have feelings for the boy in the future or if she likes someone else, then Iâ¦â
Callum thought.
However, the child in front of him was his last hope to rescue Lillian from a life of being bedridden, forever trapped in a vegetative state.
âAll right! If you can truly save Lillian, then when Yasmin grows up, I will let her marry you!â Callum promised.
The young boy nodded. âThen lead the way!â
The group quickly escorted the young boy to Lillianâs ward.
The young boy gazed at Lillian lying in the hospital bed, pale and connected to various medical devices, resembling a living corpse.
âRemove all those devices!â the young boy ordered.
The group exchanged glances, and finally, Callum summoned a nurse who removed all the monitoring devices from Lillianâs body.
The young boy then gestured to Rufus, his palm facing upward.
Rufus understood and retrieved a clean bowl, then took out a dagger. He said to the young boy, âPlease bear with it for a moment.â
âI know!â the young boy replied impatiently, The dagger cut across the boyâs forearm, carefully avoiding any vital veins, and blood welled up, dripping into the bowl. After filling about half of it, Rufus promptly stopped the bleeding and bandaged the boyâs arm.
âThis blood, feed it to her. It should help,â the young boy said, then dropped a shocking revelation. âShe went through a difficult labor because someone injected a specific toxin into her body, which made her weak and led to a difficult birth. However, this toxin metabolizes quickly, making it hard to detect in blood tests.
âWhat?â Callum was utterly astonished, never expecting that his wifeâs difficult labor had such a cause.
âInjected toxins? Who did it? Was it a hospital doctor or nurse? Or someone taking care of Lillian?â
Callum pondered, his mind racing with countless speculations.
The young boyâs face turned pale, and he seemed quite drained at the moment.
Rufus quickly carried him, ready to leave.
However, before they departed, Rufus warned Callum, âDonât forget your promise today. If you go back on it, the entire Woolbright family will have a vendetta with the White family!â
After they left, the people in the ward seemed to awaken from a daze. Callum looked at the half-filled bowl of blood in his hand and began carefully feeding it to Lillian.
No matter who was behind harming Lillian, Callum was determined to uncover the truth.
Back then, it was his lack of caution that had led to Lillianâs severe injury, landing her in the ICU ward and forcing him to back down to the Tall family. And now, he had been careless once again.
He believed he had prepared thoroughly, but there were still loopholes, and someone had exploited them. These small oversights were enough to endanger Lillianâs life.
Little by little, Lillian drank the blood.
Initially, Callum thought that feeding her this blood would be a time-consuming process, but in reality, it was done quite quickly. Toward the end, Lillian appeared to be instinctively drawn to the blood. Even in her unconscious state, she swallowed it willingly.
After Lillian finished drinking the blood, Callum carefully wiped the corners of her lips and looked at her with hope.
Rosalie and Amelia, however, watched with bated breath, anxious that the blood might not have the desired effect.
Even though the young boy was their last hope, they werenât sure if this blood alone could save Lillian.
No one could be certain until they saw her wake up.
Fortunately, after about ten minutes, Lillianâs eyelashes trembled slightly. Then, under everyoneâs gaze, she slowly opened her eyes.
Callumâs face lit up with joy. âLillian, youâve woken up? Youâre awake!â
Lillian still appeared a bit groggy as she gazed at the disheveled Callum. After a while, her voice emerged dryly. âHow is it that Iâve just⦠given birth to a child, and youâve become so ugly⦠Whereâs the baby? Howâs the⦠baby?â
âThe baby is fine; sheâs doing very well⦠very well!â Callum almost stumbled over his words, while Jonathan had already summoned doctors and nurses to examine Lillian.
By the time everything was done, it was nearly the middle of the night.
The doctorâs preliminary examination of Lillian indicated that she was currently in good condition.
However, after being awake for about half an hour, Lillian fell asleep again, which left Callum quite anxious, fearing she wouldnât wake up.
âIt probably wonât be, that boy seems confident that this blood can bring Lillian back and save her. It shouldnât just have such a short-lived effect. Lillian has just woken up and is probably a bit tired; she should wake up again after some rest,â Rosalie reassured Callum.
Despite her reassurance, Callum remained nervously stationed by Lillianâs hospital bed.
âThank you for today; you guys should go back now. Iâll stay with Lillian,â Callum said.
âYou should get some sleep too. You havenât had a proper nightâs sleep for several days,â Rosalie said.
She was aware that, according to what Stephen and Abigail had told her, Callum frequently dozed for half an hour or an hour by Lillianâs bedside.
With so little sleep every day, even the healthiest body would struggle to cope.
âYou should rest a bit too,â Rosalie advised.
However, Callum appeared as though he hadnât heard her at all. Rosalie knew that further attempts to persuade him would be futile.
The group left the hospital, with Rosalie and Jonathan on one side, and Amelia and Warren on the other.
On their way, Rosalie asked Jonathan, âDo you know about the Woolbright family?â
âYes, I do. Grandfather spoke of them while he was alive,â Jonathan replied. âTheyâre a reclusive family with considerable strength.
Otherwise, Grandfather wouldnât have warned against provoking them unless it was absolutely necessary.â
âBut werenât you just in a conflict with them?â Rosalie asked, surprised.
âWhat other choice did I have? If Lillian were to be bedridden for life in a vegetative state, Iâm certain youâd be unhappy for the rest of your life too,â he explained, fully aware of the strong bond between Rosalie and Lillian.
