Chapter 1116
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
When she brought the medical kit over, she saw Warren still picking up the broken glass fragments that fell on the floor.
âWhy are you picking them up? Stop it!â she said quickly.
âSorry, I messed up your place⦠Iâll clean it up,â he said.
âStop it. Iâll do it later!â Amelia took away the glass fragments he had picked up and then looked at his hands. Fortunately, there were no glass fragments stuck in the skin. It was relatively simple to deal with it this way.
She hurriedly took the cotton and gauze and stopped his hands from bleeding. âTell me if it hurts,â she said.
However, while she tried to stop the bleeding, he remained silent as if he felt no pain.
After she had taken care of the wound on his hands, she looked up and met his eyes.
Before Amelia could avert her eyes, Warren said, âIf I hadnât forced you to abort the child that day, would things have been better between us? Would it be possible for us⦠to go back to how we used to be? Maybe⦠Maybe you would fall in love with me again?â
That question had lingered in his mind for many days, but he did not have the courage to ask it until then.
Amelia stiffened slightly and pursed her red lips. âIs it still necessary for you to ask these questions now?â
âWhat if I say itâs necessary?â Even if he were dying soon, he wanted to know the answer.
He looked at her with deep sadness in his eyes.
She only felt that her throat was unusually dry. Then, she heard her own voice saying, âAt that time, I thought I could slowly believe you and some of the things you said back then, but after you got someone to forcefully pin me onto the operating table, the little trust I had just established in you was completely shattered.â
His throat suddenly let out a low, painful roar.
Once, he had told her that he hoped she could trust him again one day and believe he truly loved her.
However, in the end, he personally destroyed the little trust he had finally won.
âItâs my fault⦠Itâs all my fault,â Warren murmured.
At that moment, there was a quiet knock on the door. Amelia opened the door, and it was Warrenâs driver.
Amelia said to the driver, âHis hand is injured. Iâve bandaged it, but youâd better take him to the hospital.â
âYes, yes. Iâll take Mr. York to the hospital right away,â the driver answered quickly.
Warren stood up and heard Amelia say, âWarren, donât come here like this again. All I want is a peaceful life.â
He paused unconsciously. After a while, he murmured, âOkayâ¦â
After Warren left, Amelia looked at the glass fragments and blood stains on the floor. She quickly took a broom to sweep up the glass fragments and then a mop to clean up the blood stains.
Fortunately, there was not much noise, and Matilda and Aiden were not awakened.
After she had cleaned everything, Amelia realized that her hands were still stained with blood. She had not noticed it before.
It was Warrenâs blood. Her hands must have been stained when she bandaged him before.
The skin, stained with blood, suddenly became a little hot. Amelia bit her lips slightly and quickly turned on the tap to wash her hands.
The blood on her hand disappeared in a short time, but the burning sensation seemed to remain on it.
His pale face and weak appearance kept flashing in her mind.
Amelia wondered if he was only tired, as she had never seen him like that before. She had even felt his hands were extremely cold when she had bandaged his wounds earlier.
Inexplicably, she felt uneasy in her heart.
âGoodness gracious, stop thinking about it,â she thought.
Amelia shook her head and shrugged off everything about Warren in her mind. She and Warren were two different types of people from the beginning. Even if she were anxious for a while, it would eventually pass.
The next day, Matilda found that a glass was missing. When she asked about it, Amelia said awkwardly, âLast night, I got up to drink water and accidentally broke it.â
âAre you hurt?â Matilda asked worriedly.
âNo.â Amelia said.
âSpeaking of which, people have been discussing whether you and Warren are quarreling or giving each other the silent treatment these days. It was said that Warrenâs car had parked nearby several times while he looked toward the concession stand from inside the car. Well⦠What happened between you and him?â Matilda asked.
âWhat else can happen between me and him? Itâs just about my pregnancy.â Amelia deliberately added lightly, âIâve told Warren not to come here often in the future to avoid gossip among the neighbors.
Anyway, from now on, Iâll tell everyone that he is from Lofbury and works there and that I still live here because Iâm pregnant and need you to take care of me.â
âWell, thatâs all we can do.â Matilda sighed and said, âWarren still has deep feelings for you now. If your father hadnât treated the York family like that back then, wouldnât you and him have been married and living together happily now?â
âMom, if it hadnât been for Dad, Warren would never have approached me back then, and I would just be an ordinary woman to him,â Amelia said.
Things had their causes and effects.
âDonât you want to give him another chance? He has been alone for so many years, and now you are having another child. In the futureâ¦â
âMom!â Amelia interrupted Matilda. âItâs impossible between Warren and me. I donât dare, nor do I want to take a gamble. If I lose the bet, I will be doomed and unable to stand up again! Mom, I just want to look after you and raise my children!â
Hearing that, Matilda sighed and said nothing more.
Then, Amelia got up and packed the goods.
It was not like she had never thought she and Warren might have another possibility.
However, before she could make up her mind, everything was put to a stop. Maybe it was fate. Just when she was about to be moved by Warren and fall in love with him again, the incident on the operating table made her understand that it was impossible between them.
Therefore, she quickly withdrew her feelings for him and got back on track.
She was grateful that it was not too late and that she did not let herself fall in love again.
