Chapter 1152
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Warren frowned. âSheâs not just some woman. Sheâs the woman I love the most in my life. Iâm the reason why she got kidnapped. I didnât deal with those despicable people enough. Thatâs why they targeted Amelia. Itâs natural for me to save her.â
âYou make it sound so nice!â Lydia hissed. âYou almost lost your life to save her. Have you ever thought about me, your own mother? What could I have done if something happened to you? Iâve already lost your father. Do you want to make me lose my only son as well?â
A trace of guilt flashed across Warrenâs face. âMom, Iâm sorry.â
âYouâre truly under Ameliaâs spell. Even if youâve wronged her, itâs been so many years. You even donated your liver for her. That should be enough, isnât it?â Lydia said.
âEnough? Both Amelia and Mom said itâs enough, butâ¦â Warren thought as he scoffed bitterly. Then, he continued, âItâs not enough at all, Mom. I love her so much that I feel like itâs not enough even if I did everything. No matter what, I hope you donât speak ill of her, Mom. I saved her of my own free will. She never asked me to save her. My injuries have nothing to do with her.â
Lydiaâs expression darkened further as she watched her son bear all the responsibilities.
âAmeliaâs importance in my sonâs heart has grown far too much. Heâs even willing to sacrifice his own life for her!â Lydia thought and felt only deep worry.
âMom, just do it for me. Donât take your anger out on her,â Warren pleaded.
Yet, the more he begged, the deeper Lydiaâs heart sunk.
Her son, who had always been proud, never begged for a woman. Now, he was doing it for Ameliaâs sake.
âForget it.â Lydia sighed and said, âI wonât blame her. Donât worry.â
âThatâs good,â Warren said.
âHowever, those criminals that hurt you so badly must not be forgiven!â Lydia said, âEspecially Jasper and Alicia. I want them to rot in jail!â
1/4 09:23 Lydiaâs voice was laced with a trace of ferocity. After all, this was her most important son. Of course, she despised those criminals who heavily injured him and caused her to almost lose her son.
âOkay. Itâs all up to you,â Warren said.
Itâs all good as long as Mom doesnât take it out on Amelia.
Will Amelia give me the answer I want? I hope she agrees. Then, Iâll spend the rest of my life to treat her well,â he thought.
When Amelia arrived at the hospital, bringing home-cooked food for Warren, she happened to see Lydia in the ward.
Amelia was stunned as she did not expect to see her. However, it made sense once she thought about it. It was reasonable that Lydia would come over after she learned about Warrenâs injuries.
Lydia also froze when she saw Amelia bringing food over.
âHello, Mrs. York,â Amelia greeted nervously.
âHello, Ms. Haab,â Lydia responded politely without showing any displeasure toward Amelia. âI see youâre here to visit Warren. How kind of you.â
âHe got hurt because of me. I⦠Itâs what I should do,â Amelia said.
âHowever, if youâre busy taking care of your shop, itâs fine if you miss a few visits. Now that I can look after Warren, I will naturally give him the best that I can,â Lydia said.
Her words were like dull nails, and Amelia did not know what to say.
Warren frowned and said, âMom, of course, I wonât worry about anything with you caring for me, but⦠I hope Amelia can come to see me more. Iâm happy that sheâs here.â
Lydia glared at her son and said directly, âIâll go to the doctor to ask about your condition first, so Iâll leave you two to chat.â
After Lydia left the ward, Amelia finally felt the atmosphere inside the room became less tense.
Warren said, âDonât mind what my mother said.â
âYour mother just cares about you. Why would I mind it?â Amelia smiled. In her opinion, Lydiaâs attitude toward her was pretty well. At least she 2/4 did not make things difficult for Amelia.
Amelia put the food on Warrenâs bedside table. âTry the oat milk yogurt first. I made it with oat milk. You can think of it as drinking a thicker liquid. Itâs also quite filling.â
âOkay.â Warren smiled and accepted the oat milk yogurt from Amelia.
He tasted a faint sweetness as he detected the fragrance of oats.
âIt tastes good,â Warren said.
âIf you think itâs good, Iâll make more tomorrow,â Amelia offered.
âIsnât that too tiring? It mustâve required a considerable effort to make this,â he remarked.
âItâs all right. Although the preparation time is quite long, I donât need to keep an eye on it. I just need to keep track of the time,â Amelia said. âThatâs also all I can do for you now.â
He gazed at her deeply. âBut this alone has made me very, very happy.â
Amelia met his gaze, and a bitterness spread in her chest.
âSince when did such a proud man turn into such a⦠He behaves so humbly in front of me. On the other hand, I only made him some food and visited him in the hospital, yet it made him so delighted,â she thought.
âWarren, about the thing you let me consider previouslyâ¦â She opened her mouth hesitantly and wondered if she should just agree with him.
Like what Lillian had said, Amelia thought she should try it out. At the very least, she did not want to regret anything.
However, saying those words to him seemed to take a lot of courage.
âI think weâ¦â Her voice was trembling slightly. Just as she was about to speak, he pressed a finger against her lips.
âIf you havenât made up your mind yet and are still hesitating, you donât need to give me an answer now. You can tell me after youâve truly considered it,â Warren said. âAmelia, I want to be with you, and I hope youâre doing it willingly, not by impulse, and not because you want to thank me because I saved you and the child.â
With that, he subconsciously laughed self-deprecatingly. âJust⦠Think of 3/4 09:23 this as my last pride.â
In truth, he hoped she could stay with him, even if it were out of sympathy. However, when he saw her hesitation, he could not help but interrupt her.
Perhaps it was because he loved her too much that he wanted her to be willing.
