Chapter 1254
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
âDidnât you say Zephyr would help the Summer family? Look at us now! Howâs this helping at all? He didnât even bother!â fumed Peter.
Harrietâs face fell. âItâs all because of Riley screwing us up.â
âYouâre the one useless as hell. After donkey years, you still failed to win Zephyrâs heart,â reprimanded Peter.
Harrietâs visage became all the grimmer on the spot. âIn two days, my parents-in-law will be back with Hendrick. By then, even if Zephyr refuses to come up with something, I can always ask my parents-in-
law to help the Summer family out. If I were to go to jail, the Scott family name would be dragged through the mire!â
âAre you sure theyâll really help us?â Larissa was worried.
âYou all know how much they doted on Hendrick, donât you? Besides, over the years, Zephyr never had anyone else except me. Hendrick is the Scott familyâs only heir!â stated Harriet.
Only after hearing that did Larissa feel a tad relieved.
At that moment, a housekeeper suddenly hurried in and reported, âMr. and Mrs. Summer, Ms. Summer, the police are here, saying that theyâre going to take you back for questioning.â
The Summer family of three were astounded.
Before they had time to react, the police officers had already stepped in and called out all their names right away. âWe now suspect that youâre related to Rileyâs case. You guys will need to come with us. In addition, Ms. Harriet Summer, Iâm afraid that youâre also allegedly involved in an assault, intentionally putting others in harmâs way and causing physical disability.â
On the heels of that, another policeman stepped forward and handcuffed the three members of the Summer family.
The trioâs mien took an immediate change for the worse. It was then that Peter began to bellow, âWeâll be cooperative with the police investigation, but what are these handcuffs for, huh? Are you taking us as suspects already? I need to speak to my lawyer! Weâre suing you!â
âOf course, youâll get to contact your lawyer following the procedures later on. But now, you three are prime suspects, so youâll be put under temporary detention!â
Hearing that, Peter and Larissa looked terrified. Harriet, on the other hand, pinned her gaze on the chilly handcuffs on her wrists. The turn of events had completely taken her by surprise.
Given that the police force was arresting and detaining them, the authority must have obtained substantial evidence against them.
At present, the only thing the Summer family could count on was a helping hand from the Scott family.
âAs long as we drag the issue on for another two days, weâll still stand a chance when my parents-in-
law return with Hendrick!â was Harrietâs thought. On that note, she signaled her parents with a meaningful gaze, hinting them not to give themselves away upon reaching the police station.
Peter and Larissa were back to their senses at that time. Observing the hint hidden behind the gaze of their daughter, they naturally understood what to do.
Still, when the police came out of the Summer residence with the Summer family of three, a parade of reporters had already hunkered down outside, surrounding the place.
The reporters flocked toward the three members of the Summer family and put forward various questions.
Not a peep came from the trio as they got into the police car.
Almost five minutes later, the first piece of news about the Summer family getting into a police car was spread online.
Immediately afterward, more relevant news went viral all over the internet, and their infamous news garnered more and more attention from the public.
Riley watched the news on her phone about the arrest of the Summer family of three. She then turned to Rosalie in front of her. âWere these all your doings?â
Rosalie flashed a faint smile in return. âI merely submitted the evidence I collected to the police, including some records of their account transactions that they bribed the doctors back then and the verbal recordings of those doctors.â
âHow about the news that said the police were still investigating my physical disability, inflicted by Harriet? Were you the one who submitted the evidence as well?â Riley asked.
âThatâs not me,â revealed Rosalie. âThere was a file placed at the door of my hotel room. The person rang my doorbell, and I answered the door, only to find the document lying there. It detailed thoroughly about your missing finger and the deets of those who were present at that time.â
That hit Riley with a surprise. âWho put that piece of information at your doorstep?â
Rosalie said, âNo idea. At that time, the person was wearing a cap and a thick coat, leaving right at the corner after confirming that I had seen the file. That person also hailed a taxi outside the hotel and deliberately avoided the surveillance cameras on the road. Not only that, but the license plate of the taxi is also fake, so no one could trace it.â
Those were the findings Rosalie got from checking the surveillance footage after the incident.
âWho could that person be?â Riley was confused.
âNo matter who that person was, at least we know that these materials were given either to aid you or to be at odds with Harriet,â Rosalie guessed.
To think that someone was trying to offer her a helping hand, Riley could not believe such a person existed other than Rosalie and Amelia.
âIs it the Griffin family?â she wondered.
Then again, she reckoned the Griffin family most probably would not have done it. Even though Nicholasâ car crash was not an accident, the Griffin family would only try their best to find out who caused the car accident instead of spending time to prove that Harriet was the culprit who cut off her finger.
Riley was clueless about who was behind it, for it baffled her that one would actually do that for her, a poor lady who had lost everything in life.
No longer did Riley wish to dwell on figuring out the identity of the person who gave her a hand.
Instead, she asked Rosalie about the time the latter would depart from Lommore, âBy the way, on which day would you be leaving?â
Rosalie said, âThe day after tomorrow. Iâll be asking my friend in Lommore, whoâs also a lawyer, to contact you by then. Should you have any legal matters, you can consult him.â
âThank you,â Riley expressed her appreciation. The fact was she had lost count of how many times she thanked Rosalie for the past few days.
âThereâs no need to thank me. If you ever wanted to visit Strico in the future, feel free to knock on our doorsâ pronounced Rosalie.
âOkay, Iâll think about it,â said Riley.
With that, Rosalie left Rileyâs condominium. When she was about to hop into the car, a vehicle suddenly came and pulled over right in front of her. A woman then alighted that vehicle.
After Rosalie glimpsed the said womanâs face clearly, a trace of surprise flashed across her eyes.
That woman looked very much like herself, not to mention the way the other party dressed was also a heck of similar to hers, which only added more likeness.
âYou must be Rosalie.â The woman smiled at Rosalie and went on, âNice to meet you. Iâm Roxanne, Calvinâs personal assistant. Iâve been looking forward to seeing you. I knew that you came to Lommore but didnât know your exact location. Rileyâs home was the only place I heard, so I came to try my luck. I canât believe I really get to meet you in person.â
In other words, she had intentionally come for Rosalie. Watching that face so similar to hers, Rosalie unwittingly pursed her lips.
If Roxanne was Calvinâs personal assistant, Rosalie reckoned that Calvin must be looking for her doppelganger again.
âSo, is this lady before my eyes going to be my substitute?â she asked herself.
After all, she knew that Calvin had always kept one after another stand-in of her beside himself throughout the years they got separated.
âWhat do you need me for?â Rosalie questioned.
âI have a few things I need to discuss with you, Mrs. Youngblood. I wonder if youâd be willing to spare me some time.â Roxanne might sound polite, but for some reason, Rosalie felt quite disgusted looking at that person in front of her.
