Chapter 1274
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Harriet thought, âDidnât the police already know that Nicholas died in a car accident?â
âHow come I have anything to do with Nicholasâs death? You must get the wrong person! I want my lawyer here! And Iâm gonna sue you for misuse of force,â said Harriet.
âYou can call your lawyer after we bring you back to the police station! In fact, we wouldnât be arresting you if we didnât have enough evidence,â said the policeman.
The policemanâs words gave Harriet another startle, making her wonder what evidence the police had against her.
When Harriet was taken away from the airport, the man called Zephyr who was on the way right now.
âMrs. Scott has been taken away by the police, Mr. Scott. I heard that they mentioned Nicholas, and it seemed that Mrs. Scott was taken away by the police because she was involved in the car accident years ago,â he said.
The car accident he mentioned shook the whole city.
Zephyr was shocked. âWhat did you say? Was she taken away because she had something to do with the crash that killed Nicholas?â
âIt seems so. I was too far away from them, so I didnât hear it clearly,â said the man.
After finishing the call, Zephyr closed his eyes and pondered for a moment. The next second, he said to the driver in the front row, âTurn around and go to the police station!â
He wanted to figure out what was going on and why Harriet had something to do with the car accident.
He felt as if he were facing a fog, and he was now getting so close to it that he could clear it by reaching out his hand.
When Harriet was taken to the police station, she was surprised to find that Riley was there, too.
Harriet watched with a shocked face as Riley walked towards her and thought, âWhat is she doing here? Is it a coincidence? Orâ¦â
âI warned you earlier that you canât always get away with it.â Riley said indifferently, âThereâs no escape for you this time, Harriet.â
âRiley, youâ¦â At this moment, Harriet suddenly felt a little frightened. She had a hunch that Riley already knew the truth about the accident, making it almost impossible for her to get away with it again.
Harriet was taken into the interrogation room while Riley followed the police into his office and told him what happened that year. She tried to make every detail and every doubt very clear.
When she came out of the office, she had tears streaming down her face.
Riley raised her hand and gently wiped away her tears. It was only now that she realized that despite all the years that had passed, Nicholasâ death was still a crushing blow to her, preventing her from moving on.
Nicholas wanted her to live a good life, but she couldnât live a normal life after all she had lost.
At this moment, Riley heard footsteps. She raised her head and saw Zephyr hurrying into the police station.
After seeing her, Zephyr suddenly stopped and looked very shocked.
âWhat are you doing here?â Zephyr asked coldly.
âIâm here for the same reason you are,â said Riley. They both came to the police station for Harriet!
Zephyrâs face darkened, saying, âWhat now? You werenât happy about Harrietâs acquittal, so you managed to get her arrested again, didnât yo The police already said that the accident was just a coincidence. What else do you want? Besides, Harriet is now the daughter-in-law of the S family. Do you have any idea what youâre doing to our family?â
âSo all you care about is if the Scott family is affected, right?â Riley said angrily. She was disappointed, but she thought that she shouldnât be because she should have known that Zephyr would say that.
âDo you have to do this? You canât handle the consequence once you get the Scott family involved in it,â Zephyr warned her.
âWhat made you think so? I can even risk my life to do this!â Riley sounded determined. âWhat about you? What did you do? Nicholas, your close friend, died in a car crash, but youâre now asking me not to find out the truth of his death. Is this how you treat your friends, Zephyr?â
âNicholas and I were not friends a long time ago. He wouldnât have hooked up with you if he saw himself as my friend. Who are you to question me like that?â Zephyr said coldly.
âHe had never done anything wrong to you. Youâre the one who always doubted my relationship with him. If he failed you, he wouldnât have come to say goodbye to me and gone abroad!â said Riley.
She didnât care whether she was wronged or misunderstood. She just didnât want Nicholas to be slandered.
A man like him would never do this!
However, Zephyr didnât believe her explanations.
âAnyway, youâd better drop the charges right now. Otherwiseâ¦â
âI canât,â Riley said indifferently. âThis is a criminal case. Harriet intentionally caused a car accident that killed Nicholas, so even after all these years, sheâs still paying for her crime! Weâve got enough evidence, and even if you want to get her out, thereâs nothing you can do.â
Zephyr stared at Riley and said, âThereâs nothing I canât do in Lommore.â
âThe Scott family is not the only powerful family in Lommore.â A manâs voice came through, and it turned out to be Bruce Griffin coming to the police station.
Bruce looked at Zephyr with a stern face, âIf Mrs. Scott killed my brother, then the Griffin family would definitely go after her, even if you Scott family is determined to protect her!â
Zephyr stared at Bruce and said, âFine, the Griffin family, huh? Got it!
After saying that, Zephyr turned around and left.
Bruce looked at Riley and asked, âWhat did he say to you?â
âNothing. He wanted me to drop the charge because he didnât want the Scott family to be affected by Harriet. It seems that he had no idea about what happened many years ago,â said Riley.
Bruce said, âReally? Then, after everything is settled, are you going to go to him andâ¦â
âHe and I are never going back together,â Riley replied. After a pause, she looked at Bruce and said seriously, âI have a request, Mr. Griffin. After everything is settled, I want to do this for Nicholasâ¦â
The next second, Riley said something that shocked Bruce.
âWhat do you mean?â
âI couldnât do anything for Nicholas when he was alive. Now heâs never going back, and this is the only thing I can do for him. Iâm not asking for money, Mr. Griffin, and I can sign an agreement with you, the terms of which are up to you. I just wanted to repay Nicholasâ love for me,â Riley said sincerely, and her eyes were full of tears.
