Chapter 149
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
He was a strikingly handsome man, between the ages of a teen and an adult, with a gender-neutral face that consider attractive in the modern era.
many would His exquisite features were as if he had come to life from a painting. However, the manâs thin lips were pressed tightly together, and his beautiful black eyes seemed to be filled with rage at the time.
âIs he angry? Based on his current point of view, it appears that whatever is bothering him is coming from our direction,â Rosalie speculated silently.
âRosalie. Iâm talking to you. Are you listening?â Lillianâs voice brought her back to reality.
âWhat did you say just now? Rosalie turned to face Lillian âDid the doctor mention when your hand will be completely healed?â Lillian inquired.
âAbout a week, and then it is just a matter of waiting for the skin to heal, Rosalie replied. Then, her gaze shifted briefly in the direction of the unfamiliar man earlier, but there was no sign of the car or the man.
âWhat are you looking at? Is there something happening on the street?â Lillian followed Rosalieâs gaze.
âItâs nothing.â Rosalie smiled. Perhaps she had been overly suspicious earlier. Just because the man appeared angry and looked in their direction did not mean he was looking at them âBy the way, are you living together with Jonathan now? Whatâs going on?â Lillian asked. She had been curious about that since the night before, when she had called Rosalie and Jonathan had answered the phone.
âW-Weâre kind of living together, I guess,â Rosalie replied.
âSo, you two are cohabiting?â Lillian continued to ask.
Those words almost caused Rosalie to spill her beverage.
âN-Not really. Iâm just staying there for a while. Once my hand fully heals, I should be able to move out, Rosalie quickly explained.
âAre you sure? Are you staying with Jonathan because youâve been forced to?â Lillian furrowed her brows.
When Lillian thought about it, it made sense to her. Rosalie had been through a lot in prison, much of it brought on by Jonathan. He later deceived her as well.
Rosalie despised being deceived above all else, and Jonathan had almost certainly caused her psychological trauma.
Rosalie smiled, pretending to be cheerful. âI am not exactly being forced. At the very least, he provides me with good food. and lodging. Furthermore, my hand is currently injured, so staying at his house is convenient. He also provided me with a separate room.â
âButâ¦â Lillian was still worried Rosalie quickly changed the subject, âAll right, letâs talk about something else. Werenât you just complaining about your mom setting up blind dates for you? Have you met anyone that suits your taste?â
âDo not bring it up again. I was actually considering ways to get away from it. My mother acts as if I will never marry, despite the fact that 1 am only 27 years old. She told me that she had gone fortune-telling and that they predicted I would marry next year, so I needed to find a good match this year. In fact, I am thinking about bulldozing that place, Lillian said indignantly âHave you never been interested in anyone in all these years? Rosalie asked. They had known each other for a long time, and she had never seen Lillian dating anyone. Lillian appeared to have no interests outside of admiring celebrities.
âWellâ¦â When it came to that subject, Lillian felt a little uneasy and touched her nose.
Rosalie immediately noticed that Lillianâs reaction was odd. She looked at Lillian and asked curiously, âSo, does that mean you have someone youâre interested in?â
âI guess. I had a crush on him back then, but he was too young for me. I felt like I was robbing a cradle when I was with him. Despite the fact that it was only a brief encounter, it was quite pleasant. Lillian chuckled.
Rosalie was speechless when she heard Lillian say she was robbing a cradle. After all, Lillian was only 27 years old. âIs that person very young?â she asked.
Lillian shrugged and replied, âYes. We met abroad, and then⦠Never mind. I am sure he has forgotten what I look like by THEMY!â
After all, she reasoned, with him being so attractive, there had to be a lot of girls interested in him, so there was no way he would remember someone like her, who only spent a few days together with him.
âI guess having that once-in-a-lifetime experience was enough, Lillian remarked inwardly.
Meanwhile, Rosalieâs expression subtly changed when she heard Lillian mention âabroad. She remembered that Lillian had only been abroad once, and that was before her car accident. Lillian intended to apply to schools abroad to further her education, so she traveled abroad for an interview with the school to which she intended to apply.
However, due to Rosalieâs car accident, Lillian was unable to attend the interview and was forced to return to the country immediately.
Rosalie felt that it was entirely her fault that Lillian was denied the opportunity to further her education.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that she had changed Lillianâs destiny.
It was no surprise that Lillianâs parents were still bitter about it to this day. Even Rosalie felt a weight on her chest whenever she thought about it.
When Lillian noticed Rosalieâs expression change, she knew Rosalie was thinking about how she had failed to further her studies abroad and was feeling guilty about it. Donât overthink it. My decision not to go abroad at the time had nothing to do with you. My grades were only average. Even if I had gone to the interview, I doubt the school would have accepted me,â she quickly said.
âLillian, thank you. One day, if you need my help. Iâll be there for you no matter what, Rosalie said earnestly.
âYou silly. Why are you saying such cheesy things? It is preferable to properly thank me when your case is overturned in the future!â Lillian patted Rosalieâs shoulder.
âAll rightâ Rosalie smiled. However, deep down, she still had concerns. Despite her determination to clear her name, she could not help but wonder if she could actually overturn the case.
âCan we still figure out who the mastermind is, if there really is one? After all, three years have passed, she mused.
When Rosalie returned to the Youngblood residence in the evening, Jonathan was sitting in the living room, holding something, lost in thought.
As Rosalie approached, she noticed he was holding the photo he had asked her to give him earlier that day.
Jonathan put away the photo and smiled at her when he noticed she was back. âYouâre back. How did your meeting with your friend go?
âIt went all right, she replied.
âDid your friend give you any useful information about your case?â he asked casually.
âIt should be helpful, but I donât understand why that witness from back then lied. Iâm afraid that if I try to contact him directly, heâll avoid me. So, I plan to gather more information about him before deciding on the next step,â Rosalie explained.
Then, sensing something amiss, she turned to Jonathan and asked, âDo you actually believe that I was not the one responsible for the car accident that killed your fiancée back then?â
