Chapter 178
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
The ward was currently silent, as no one made a sound. Rosalie could only feel Leonard looking at her very seriously, but his gaze seemed to carry a hint of disdain and disgust.
Next to Leonard, apart from a caretaker, there was also the man who had brought her here and claimed to be Leonardâs personal assistant.
âDo you know why I had you brought here?â Leonardâs voice finally broke the silence after some time.
âYes. Because of Jonathan, Rosalie replied. Although she was only pretending not to be apprehensive or nervous on here, she felt oddly calm when she saw the contempt in Leonardâs eyes upon her arrival.
After all, she had already experienced the worst before, so things couldnât possibly get worse today.
Leonard snorted. âItâs good that youâre aware!â
the way âWhat do you want to say?â Rosalie asked bluntly. Perhaps due to her exhaustion from experiencing so much, she no longer wanted to beat around the bush.
âTo think he actually let you move into the Youngblood residence. Did you really think a woman like you could enter the Youngblood family?â Leonard questioned coldly.
Right then, Rosalie understood that Leonard had purposefully come to assert his authority over her.
She lowered her head and remained silent. At this point, he probably wouldnât believe whatever she said, anyway.
Leonard seemed to find her silence rather uninteresting and turned to his personal assistant to ask, âTell me. What do you think my grandson sees in this woman?â
âIâm not sure, but she must have some exceptional qualities, the personal assistant replied Leonard waved his hand. âI canât see anything exceptional, and this face is truly unpleasant to look at.
Just ruin it, then. Letâs see if Jonathan will still want her,â he said, sounding tired.
âYes, sir, Leonardâs personal assistant replied.
Rosalie trembled from head to toe and raised her head abruptly to look at Leonard in shock.
âHe wants to ruin my face? He, an old man, says it so calmly as if itâs a normal thing to do, she thought, Then, Rosalie thought bitterly to herself. I almost forgot that Leonard used to be a powerful man as well. Since he brought me here today, he naturally has more in store for me than just a few words of warning.
How could I have expected him to send me back with just a warning?
At this moment, the man who claimed to be Leonardâs personal assistant retrieved a dagger from his inner breast pocket and walked toward Rosalie. She looked at him quietly, not panicking or begging for mercy.
Leonard was slightly surprised by her demeanor.
âYouâre not gonna run?â the personal assistant asked as he approached Rosalie.
âItâs not like Iâll succeed anyway,â she replied calmly. After all, the fact that this man could work by Leonardâs side and bet assigned such tasks probably meant that he was skilled. On the other hand, her skills were no better than an average personâs Besides, even if she could escape from this ward, she might not be able to escape from this hospital.
Her rational mind told her to accept her fate, but there was still a sense of anger in Rosalieâs heart. She mused, Why am I destined to be manipulated by others like this? Iâm a human being like everyone else.
Why canât I even fight back when someone wants to harm me?
Back then, I studied law in hopes of upholding justice. Yet now, I canât even uphold justice for myself.â
âYouâre rather smart, the man sneered.
-Rosalie clenched her hands into fists by her sides, thinking, âSo, this is what itâs like to be at the mercy of others!â
As she watched the other partyâs dagger approach her face, her body shook even more. All of a sudden, she ducked and swiftly dodged to the side, then rushed toward the ward door.
However, as soon as she opened it, she was restrained by two bodyguards who were already standing guard outside.
The personal assistant walked up to Rosalie and mocked, âWerenât you very courageous earlier? Turns our you were merely looking for a chance to flee. Alas, as you said, you wonât succeed.â
Indeed, she couldnât escape. Regardless, even if she was like a lamb to the slaughter, she wanted to give herself a choice to fight back.
Once again, Rosalie was pushed into the room. Right as she watched the dagger about to cut her face for real this time, the door was suddenly kicked open by someone.
A figure entered and walked directly to Rosalieâs side. In the blink of an eye, that dagger was snatched, and that personal assistant was kicked aside.
âI say, Grandpa, arenât you a little too impatient?â Jonathan played with the dagger while looking at Leonard, who was still half-lying on the bed. âDidnât I already tell you? Do. Not. Touch. Her.â
Leonardâs face remained stolid, as if this turn of events was within his expectations.
âSheâs not suitable for you.â
âWhether sheâs suitable or not is for me to decide, not you,â Jonathan responded, then glanced at Rosalie. âDid you get hurt?â Rosalie shook her head. He had arrived just in time, so she wasnât injured.
The personal assistant, who had tried to harm Rosalie earlier, was presently struggling to get up.
Jonathan walked over to the man and said, âYou should be grateful that you didnât hurt her today.
Otherwise, I guarantee youâll regret it for the rest of your life.â
As Jonathan spoke, he kicked the man in the chest, pinning the latter underfoot. âAnyhow, you should still be taught a lesson.â With that, he tossed the dagger aside and raised his fist, raining punches on the manâs face.
Even though that man was a tough guy, he was still badly beaten up.
âIf it werenât because I donât want her to be uncomfortable at the sight of blood, it wouldnât have just been these few punches,â Jonathan threatened, then took Rosalieâs hand and walked toward the ward door.
Leonard coughed once. âAre you planning to follow in your fatherâs footsteps?â
Jonathan halted in his tracks momentarily before continuing to stride away.
Leonard coughed repeatedly. Today, he was merely testing to see how important Rosalie was in Jonathanâs heart.
If she werenât important enough, then it wouldnât matter if her face was truly ruined. However, if Jonathan came, it meant she was probably of utmost importance to him.
After all, tonight was the birthday of the woman who gave birth to Jonathan.
