Chapter 391
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
But it was the first time Jonathan had ever set foot in this place.
When Jonathan followed the search party and walked step by step in this dense forest, what flashed through his mind was Calvinâs painting that he saw in the Gunner familyâs studio.
In the painting, a petite girl walked step by step in a dense forest with a little boy on her back.
The little girlâs back was bent very low as if she could hardly bear the weight of the boy. But even so, the little girl kept moving forward.
Step by step, the little girl walked with difficulty.
Jonathan didnât feel anything when he saw the painting for the first time, but now when he took the little boy and girl in the painting as Calvin and Rosalie, he was panic-stricken.
What was Jonathan panicking about? Was it the invisible tie between Calvin and Rosalie that Jonathan could not break at all though he had done so many tricks secretly?
Was it the fact that Rosalie would always have Calvin in her heart though she lost her memory now and that she would still be with Calvin when she restored her memory?
Or, was Jonathan afraid that Rosalie actually didnât love him so much and would betray him one day?
âJonathan, you look not good. Do you want to have a rest?â Carlos asked. At this moment, Jonathanâs face was pale.
Jonathan shook his head and said, âNo need. Itâs getting dark. Keep searching!â
Jonathanâs worry would only increase if the search was dragged out!
There were more and more trees in the mountains. Because it was midsummer, the branches and leaves were even luxuriant, layer upon layer, which blocked a lot of light.
âWait, there seems to be a sound in front. It sounds like footsteps!â The searcher who was walking in the front suddenly said.
Upon hearing that, everyone stopped.
The sound of footsteps was steady and powerful.
A figure then slowly came into the sight of everyone.
It was a man walking over with a woman on his back.
Jonathanâs heart skipped a beat, and he only felt that the blood all over his body seemed to have frozen in an instant.
Jonathan thought, âThatâs⦠indeed Calvin and Rosalie!â
Did the thing that Jonathan was afraid of still happen? The scene Jonathan saw at the time was like what he saw in the painting he had seen before. The only difference was that the two figures in the painting switched their positions.
Rosalie was lying on Calvinâs back with her head resting on Calvinâs back, making it hard for others to see clearly her face. Calvin walked forward step by stepâ¦.
Suddenly, Calvin stopped and looked up. He was slightly stunned when he saw a group of searchers with rescue equipment in front of him.
Then, his charming eyes passed these people in front and fixed on a tall figure standing there.
Calvin looked straight at Jonathan. He didnât expect that he would meet Jonathan in such a remote and dense forest today. He thought, âWell⦠Looks like the forest will be lively today!â
âWhatâs wrong?â Rosalie asked when she sensed that Calvin stopped. She had been a little dizzy because of the headache.
When Rosalie saw the tall figure in the crowd in front of them, she was surprised. âJ-Jon!â
Rosalie thought, âWhy is Jon and those people here? He must come to find me. I was delayed and have stayed too long on the mountain. He must be very worried about me.â
Rosalie subconsciously wanted to run to Jonathan but then realized that she was still being carried by Calvin. She hurriedly said to Calvin, âYou⦠put me down first.â
âAre you going to Jonathanâs side?â Calvinâs cold voice sounded.
âYes,â Rosalie answered with certainty.
âRosalie, once I put you down now, then from now on, no matter what happens to you, I will not care.
You are just a stranger to me. Do not call me âCalâ since then. It is not for a stranger.â
Calvinâs words sounded like a warning and a goodbye.
Rosalie suddenly felt sad, and her heart seemed to be gripped by something. She felt depressed.
Rosalie thought, âWhy do I feel depressed? Is it because I lied to him, or is it because a playmate in childhood becomes a stranger now?â
âI see, Mr. Gunner,â Rosalie said.
Their voices were so low that only they could hear each other.
Calvin bent down and put Rosalie down. Carlos, who was standing beside Jonathan, was shocked by this scene.
Carlos thought, âCalvin is as noble as a prince in the entertainment industry. Has he ever carried a woman like this? If those reporters in the entertainment industry are here at this moment, they might be shocked! Itâs justâ¦â
Carlos looked at Jonathan uneasily. But to his surprise, Jonathan was calmer than he thought at the time.
Jonathan just looked at Calvin and Rosalie with his back straight.
But the calmer Jonathan was, the more scared Carlos became. He felt uneasy as if it was just the calm before the storm and as if something would happen soon.
Rosalie got off Calvinâs back. Just as she was about to walk towards Jonathan, Calvin grabbed her wrist. She couldnât help but pause and look at Calvin in confusion.
âFortunately, you are not,â Calvin suddenly said this inexplicably, and then he let go of Rosalieâs wrist again before Rosalie could react.
Rosalie looked at Calvin in a daze. After a while, her eyes fixed on the wrist that Calvin had just grasped.
When Rosalie fell off the cliff, Calvin also firmly grabbed her wrist and pulled her up.
If it were not for Calvin today, Rosalie would have been groaning with pain under the cliff now.
âCalvinâ¦â Rosalie took a deep breath. This time, she didnât call him âMr. Gunnerâ. âThank you!â
After that, Rosalie smiled gently and then turned around to walk towards Jonathan.
Just now⦠Rosalie expressed her appreciation, but meanwhile, it was also her way to say goodbye to Calvin.
Rosalie thanked Calvin for his devotion to the agreement they made when they were just kids. For this agreement, Calvin had been looking for her for years. She also thanked Calvin for saving her when she almost fell off the cliff.
Calvin fixed his eyes on Rosalieâs back and watched her walk towards Jonathan.
At that moment, Calvin felt lucky in his heart. He thought, âFortunately⦠she is really not the one I am looking for. Otherwise, I might be unable to let her go just now.â
If Rosalie were the one Calvin had been looking for, Calvin might have grabbed Rosalieâs wrist firmly to keep her by his side though he knew that Rosalie loved Jonathan and the Gunner family would be involved in trouble if he competed with Jonathan.
