Chapter 446
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
[Iâm fine. Callum took me to his mansion for a night off.] Lillian was embarrassed to reveal that she had taken Callum to bed. again.
During breakfast, Callum spoke solemnly, âYouâve done this to me repeatedly. If you dare not take responsibility, youâll be in big trouble.â
She was left momentarily speechless. Wasnât it usually the woman who should be more vulnerable to this sort of situation? It felt like it should be her saying those words to him.
âWill you take responsibility?â He stared at her and asked.
âWell⦠Yes.â She nodded her head under his intense gaze.
Reflecting on the morningâs events, Lillian was once again left speechless but filled with a warm, sweet sensation. The idea of Callum insisting that she take responsibility somehow brought her joy.
After chatting with Rosalie for a while, Lillian put away her phone and turned on the computer in front of her desk to start work.
On the other side, Rosalie put away her phone and looked at the case files on the desk, lost in thought.
âWhy did Jonathan come to the bar to find me? What on earth was happening? How could he have known I was there? And that day, I had turned down his offer to be his Rosie again. So, why was he still reentering my life?â she wondered.
She had broken up with him, but the situation after the breakup was different from what she had envisioned.
She had thought that they would cut ties without any contact, but he appeared in front of her again and again âForget it!â Rosalie said to herself in her heart. She should be focusing on her work instead of Jonathan.
In the evening, Lawrence requested that Rosalie organize the information regarding the car accident case, with a particular focus on the suspicious aspects.
âGo back to the witness Lucas and reexamine the suspicious details he mentioned in his statement that day, then have him sign it. This is to confirm that the statement is his sincere confession,â Lawrence instructed. âRegarding the police, Iâve already spoken to them. Reopening the case is a challenge right now, but they will dispatch someone for an investigation, which is good news.â
âIt is indeed good news!â Rosalie thought. She hoped that the police could find new strong evidence and reopen the case.â
Rosalie sorted out the information and set off for Lucas automotive workshop.
The automotive workshop was quite small and situated in a remote area. Rosalie had to change buses twice to reach it.
Upon her arrival at the automotive workshop, Lucas was engaged in a conversation with one of the staff members. Every now and then, he would gesture toward various parts of a nearby car and use technical terms.
At this moment, Lucas wore a serious expression that was worlds apart from the shy and honest person he used to be. He truly seemed like a director, exuding confidence in his element.
Even ordinary people would be extraordinary in their areas of expertise.
After Lucas finished talking to the staff, he finally realized Rosalieâs presence. He scratched his neck with embarrassment and said, âI⦠I was so focused on my work that I didnât notice you coming. Sorry, I⦠Iâll make you tea!â
Rosalie said, âNo need to make tea. Iâm not thirsty. Besides, it was me who disturbed you.â
âHow can there be no tea to serve a guest?â Lucas invited Rosalie into his office and poured her a cup of tea.
Rosalie looked at this small office. Although it was small and there were a lot of things in it, she could see that Lucas should often stay here. There was also a folding bed in the room.
âItâs a little messy.â Lucas smiled awkwardly.
âThis is how one embarks on oneâs own entrepreneurial journey. Honestly, I envy people like you whoâve taken the initiative to start their own businesses,â Rosalie said. Initially, she had contemplated launching her own business as well. Her dream was to eventually open her own law firm after gaining valuable experience.
But⦠But now, she was working as an insignificant assistant.
She could only sigh that life was so unpredictable.
âTake a look at this document. It contains the suspicious details you mentioned. Iâve outlined them in writing, and if everything looks accurate, please sign here,â Rosalie explained, handing Lucas the document.
Before coming here, she had already called Lucas to explain her intention.
Lucas took the document and signed it without hesitation after reading it.
Rosalie took it and signed her name on the paper. When she looked up, she noticed Lucas was looking at her.
âWhatâs the matter? Is there anything wrong?â she asked.
âYou⦠You must have suffered a lot inâ¦â Rosalie murmured. He didnât say a word about prison, but Rosalie immediately knew what he meant.
âItâs all over.â She smiled faintly.
It was as though the events of the past had now become inconsequential to her.
However, as he observed her smile, Lucas couldnât help but feel a sense of sadness. When he watched her writing just now, he noticed the knots of her fingers were somewhat different from those of ordinary people. They looked a little unnatural as if she had suffered a severe injury that hadnât properly healed.
Even her speed of writing was slower than ordinary people.
Lucas wondered if this was also the injury she suffered in prison.
Even when she had refused him several times, he still couldnât help but want to care about her.
When Rosalie got up and was about to leave, Lucas suddenly said. âWell⦠Are you free later? I have a gift for Aiden. Can you go with me?â
Rosalie was stunned. âDid you buy Aiden a gift?â
âYes, he is a very adorable child.â He felt even sympathetic toward the young boy especially given his hearing loss.
âOkay. Letâs go together later.â She also wanted to see Aiden and Amelia.
In a few days, Aiden and Amelia would depart to Gerton. Right now, Ameliaâs diner had been transferred, and everything was ready.
Amelia did all this just to avoid Warren.
When Rosalie and Lucas arrived at Ameliaâs current residence, they saw that there were already several suitcases in the house, and the things in the room were much less than Rosalie had seen last time.
When Aiden saw Lucas, he greeted happily, âMr. Graham.â Although Aidenâs personality became much more cheerful after he put on the hearing aid, he didnât grow clingy to people. He usually only got close to those he was familiar with.
But Aiden obviously liked Lucas very much.
When Lucas took out his gift, a toy bubble gun, Aiden was even happier.
The toy gunâs muzzle would produce bubbles when the trigger was pressed.
