Chapter 48
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
âJon,â she uttered. âI donât know how long I will stay in the hospital. Call him and tell him not to wait for me.â
As Rosalie was speaking, she found the name âJonâ in her contacts and dialed the number.
Soon, Jonathanâs cold voice could be heard. âRosie.â
âI have something to do. Iâm afraid Iâll come back late today. You have to prepare dinner on your own,â
Rosalie said.
âWhat do you mean you have something to do? Just tell him directly that youâre in the hospital now,â
Lillian cut in.
âRosie, youâre in the hospital now?â Jonathanâs tone seemed to change slightly.
âWell, I tripped and fell. Iâm waiting for the screening tests in the hospital now,â Rosalie explained.
âWhich hospital are you in? Iâll go over now,â said Jonathan.
âYou donât have to come over. I have Lillian with me here. Just wait for me at home,â she blurted.
The other end of the phone was silent. After a moment, the icy voice could be heard again. Jonathan still insisted on the previous question. âWhich hospital?â
âCentral Hospital,â Rosalie replied while biting her lip slightly. She had lost her mother when she was a child, and the three years in prison made her reluctant to trouble others no matter what happened.
If Lillian hadnât been by her side today, she would have come to the hospital alone without telling anyone.
âIâm going over now,â Jonathan stated.
After ending the call, Jonathan called Carlos. âCheck what has happened to Rosalie today.â
âOkay,â Carlos replied.
âAlso, check which orthopedics doctor in Central Hospital has the best skills. Ask the doctor to go to the hospital now to check her injury,â Jonathan continued.
âOkay,â Carlos replied again.
When the call was over, he stared at his phone blankly. âMr. Youngblood really hasnât fallen in love with Rosalie?â he wondered.
For Rosalie, he wanted to find out her whereabouts. He even wanted to look for the best orthopedics doctor for her.
There was a time when their car had passed through the area Rosalie was sweeping, and she was hit by an electric scooter. However, Jonathan hadnât minded her or done anything.
And now, Carlos had to put in considerable effort for such a woman. If one said that Jonathan had nothing to do with Rosalie, Carlos wouldnât believe it.
Thus, while Rosalie was waiting in line for the screening, a nurse suddenly appeared and took her to the VIP passage to carry out the screening. Then, she took Rosalie to another consultation room. The orthopedics doctor wasnât the one who had previously treated Rosalie.
âI should go to see the previous doctor, right?â Rosalie said. After all, itâs common practice to go to the same doctor who had prescribed her before the screening.
âDr. Hoffman is relatively free,â the nurse said hurriedly.
The said doctor Matthew Hoffman smiled gently and uttered, âYes. Iâm relatively free.â The heavens knew that he was not free at all. On the contrary, the director of the hospital had called Matthew and ordered him to rush to the hospital from home to check on a patient.
The director even instructed Matthew to be extra careful and not make any mistakes.
Matthew thought the patient must be some big shot, so the director deliberately pressured him.
However, the patient he was facing now looked quite ordinary and there was nothing special about her.
Even her clothes could be described as cheap.
Nonetheless, as a doctor, Matthew didnât mind the status of his patients. As long as they were his patients, he would try his best to cure them.
It was just because of the directorâs instructions that he paid more attention to Rosalie.
At this moment, Jonathan entered the consultation room and came to Rosalie. He called out, âRosie.â
âYouâre here,â Rosalie replied. âHe came faster than I expected,â she thought.
10.176 âYes. Thereâs a traffic jam on the way, so it took me some time to get here,â Jonathan explained.
âDoctor, is my friendâs injury serious? She was tripped over on the escalator and tumbled down,â Lillian asked nervously.
âThe fall today is not a serious problem. There are some slight bone cracks in the leg and ankle here. It will take a week or two to recuperate. Howeverâ¦â Matthew hesitated for a moment.
âWhat is it?â Lillian asked closely.
âMs. Leighton, did you often get injured during these few years?â Matthew asked.
Rosalie was stunned. She didnât know how to answer for a moment.
âI donât mean anything else. I just want to say that from your screening, it can be seen that you seem to have suffered a lot of injuries in recent years. There were some old injuries that you may not have taken care of well at that time, so there might be some afterâeffects.â
âAfterâeffects?â Rosalie frowned. âBut I normally donât feel anything wrong with my body.â
âYou are still young, so you wonât notice the afterâeffects for now. When you get older in the future, those afterâeffects will appear gradually.â
âWhat are the afterâeffects?â Lillian was even more nervous than Rosalie.
âIn the future, you may have arthritis. If itâs serious, you may not be able to lift heavy objects. Itâs harmful to do such actions,â Matthew clarified.
Rosalie was silent and looked down at her hands and feet. She had had all those injuries during her time in prison.
Even if she had been beaten until she had a bone fracture, the doctor could only treat it simply and bandage the wound. It had not been easy to have peace for a moment, so there was no chance to recover at all.
âWell, are there any other methods to cure it?â Lillian asked nervously while trembling.
On the contrary, Rosalie seemed to be quieter compared to Lillian.
âMainly, she still needs more rest. She should eat more food containing calcium. She should try not to use cold water as much as possible when sheâs taking a shower or doing household chores. Besides, the latest injury should be taken care of properly this time. Donât let it become like the old wounds before, eventually turning into hidden injuries,â Matthew explained.
10.575 After being prescribed some medicine, Lillian went to get it while Jonathan helped Rosalie sit on a rest chair outside the consultation room. âDoes it hurt?â Jonathan asked.
âItâs bearable, actually,â Rosalie said. âAnd the injury is not serious. The doctor said itâll take only a week or two to recover.â
Jonathan pursed his thin lips and asked, âThe old wounds that Dr. Hoffman mentioned. Were they the wounds you got when you were in prison?â
Rosalie pretended to be relaxed and smiled. âI was just beaten several times in prison. Itâs not that serious. These old wounds will recover later if I take care of them well.â
The calmer Rosalie was, the gloomier Jonathan became.
âRosie, do you hate the people who put you in prison?â he suddenly asked.
She couldnât help but smile. âWho should I hate? Should I hate the judge? Or should I hate the Hamilton family who sued me? Or the Xanthos family that wouldnât help me? Or Jonathan Youngblood?â
