Chapter 523
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
âNot⦠not yet. Iâm just wondering if Iâm pregnant.â Lillian quickly clarified, her discomfort evident as she squirmed under his gaze. She added meekly, âMy period is overdue this month.â
He took a moment to reflect, his thoughts swirling as he considered the situation. âIf thatâs the case, thereâs a real chance she might be pregnant. But if she is, then Iâ¦â he mused silently.
Callum responded, âWe can confirm that tomorrow with a blood test at the hospital.â
Feeling a bit nervous about the prospect of a hospital visit, she suggested, âI donât think thatâs necessary. We can simply purchase a pregnancy test kit.â
Callum looked at her speechlessly. âAfraid of needles?â
She nodded honestly, then added, âIf we happen to pass by a pharmacy or drugstore, could you help me pick up a pregnancy test kit? Maybe even a few from different brands, just to be safe.â
Hence, when Callum arrived at the pharmacy and proceeded to purchase every pregnancy test kit available on the shelves, the cashier gave him a peculiar look. It left Callum feeling rather uncomfortable, as if he was a pervert.
Upon returning to the car, he handed all the pregnancy test kits to Lillian.
Lillian became completely engrossed in examining the array of pregnancy test kits, even going as far as taking out the instruction manuals to read them carefully, her expression filled with curiosity and excitement.
However, when they arrived at Callumâs mansion, and the moment to perform the actual test arrived, she suddenly felt a wave of nervousness wash over her once more.
âGosh, Callum, what should I do? Iâm really nervous!â Lillian couldnât help but reach out and grab Callumâs hand for support.
As she held his hand, she noticed that his palm was also sweaty, which prompted her to give him a surprised look. âYou⦠Are you nervous too?â she asked.
âIndeed, I am,â Callum admitted, his voice tinged with unease.
It was a level of nervousness he had never experienced before. Even during his final, desperate counterattack to secure his position as the head of the White family, he hadnât felt this jittery.
Surprisingly, he was actually nervous because of the possibility of her being pregnant.
As Callumâs nervousness grew, Lillian, surprisingly, began to feel less anxious. âOkay, thereâs no need to be nervous. Itâs just a pregnancy test. Just wait for me here!â She ended up comforting him instead.
After reassuring Callum, Lillian marched into the bathroom with a casual and confident demeanor.
Callum stood by the bathroom door, his gaze fixed on his own hands, and couldnât help but put on a bitter smile. In the he would never have believed that he would one day be this nervous about such a situation.
However, at that moment, his unease was palpable.
He thought, âIt would be great if sheâs really pregnant. That way, Iâd be able to keep her close by my side, even if⦠even if that means Iâm using the child to my own advantage!â
past, Nevertheless, at the same time, he harbored a fear that she might indeed be pregnant. Given the current circumstances, if she were to become pregnant, she might inevitably become entangled with the White family.
âAnd the White family nowâ¦â he mused, feeling a sense of concern wash over him.
As Callum grappled with his conflicting emotions, Lillian pushed open the bathroom door. However, she didnât fully emerge; instead, she poked her head out and said, âUm⦠I donât think Iâm pregnant. It looks like Iâve just gotten my period.â
Callum was momentarily stunned, taking a moment for Lillianâs words to fully register in his mind.
He pondered, âNot pregnant?â While a hint of disappointment crossed his mind, he also considered that perhaps, for the time being, this was the best outcome.
He almost put her in danger because he had been too careless and didnât take contraceptive measures.
âAre you disappointed?â Lillian murmured meekly, her voice barely audible.
Callum smiled and reassured her, saying, âItâs perfectly fine. We can always plan for a child a few years later. All right, you can come out now.â
âI canât!â Lillian exclaimed, wearing a troubled expression. âMy period is here, but I didnât bring any pads with me. Could you please help me buy some pads?â
Callumâs expression suddenly froze. âBuy pads?â This was the second time his voice had faltered tonight.
Lillian replied with a hint of humor, âYeah, or do you want me to come out all âbloodilyâ?â She emphasized the word Callum nodded and said, âIâll have the servant go and buy it for you.â
Lillian quickly interjected, âWait! Itâs a bit embarrassing to ask the servants to buy this kind of thing.
Would you mind getting it for me? You know, back when I was in school, I used to envy those girls with boyfriends who helped them buy pads. I even imagined having my boyfriend in the future do that for me.â
Callum found it a bit perplexing. He couldnât quite grasp why someone would envy having a boyfriend who would help buy sanitary pads, let alone fantasize about it in the future.
âAre pads really that important?â he pondered silently to himself.
However, Callum felt himself relenting when he saw her hopeful expression.
Hence, he could only say, âAll right, wait for me.â
âSure!â Lillian smiled sweetly and added, âHelp me buy night-use pads from Whisper, please.â
Callum couldnât quite find the words to describe his own feelings at that moment.
Tonight, he seemed to be constantly buying things he wouldnât typically purchase and even consistently received odd looks from people along the way.
When Callum paid for the bill with two bags of night-use pads, the cashier once again gave him peculiar looks.
It was only after he had completed his purchase that Callum overheard the cashier whispering to her colleague, âDid you see that? The guy just bought pads!â
âProbably for his girlfriend or wife.â
âA man who buys pads for his partner must be a good man!â
âHis partner must be lucky!â
As Callum reflected on the situation, he realized it wasnât Lillianâs logic that was peculiar; it was the logic of women that often left men puzzled!
When Lillian emerged from the bathroom after using the pads, she held her stomach with a frown. Her face appeared paler than before.
âWhatâs the matter? Are you feeling uncomfortable?â Callum asked with concern.
âJust a mild stomachache,â Lillian reassured Callum, meeting his concerned gaze. She explained, âDonât worry, itâs normal for me to experience period cramps during the first couple of days.â
He contemplated for a moment before asking, âIs there anything I can do to make you feel more comfortable?â Lillian replied, âI usually feel better after drinking some hot cocoa, but⦠do you have any cocoa powder here?â
âIâll have someone get it for you if we donât have any,â he assured her, instructing the servants to prepare hot cocoa. He then gently guided her to sit on the couch and placed a cushion under her back, covering her stomach with a small quilt to ensure her comfort.
