Chapter 541
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
âIâve already said that I no longer haveâ¦â
âNo longer have feelings for me, yes?â Jonathan interrupted Rosalie. âThen, who do you have feelings for now?â
Rosalie struggled to find the right words to say. The manâs gaze on her seemingly flashed with a dangerous gleam.
âI have no feelings for anyone, including Calvin!â she asserted, not wanting to involve Calvin. The latter already had his wrist broken by Jonathan because of her, and she didnât even know how he was doing then.
âIf so, why did you let him hug you? When did you become so close with him?â he asked softly.
Rosalie abruptly felt nervous, for it seemed he would do something extreme if her answer angered him.
âI⦠merely think of Calvin as a childhood friend. Looking at him, I feel⦠guilty,â Rosalie said truthfully.
âGuilty?â Jonathan quirked a brow.
âCalvin has been looking for me for so many years, but I never told him Iâm the person heâs looking for.â
Inwardly, Rosalie added, âInstead, I allowed him to mistake someone else for me and donât intend to correct him either.â Aloud, she continued, âBesides, he only hugged me as a childhood friend.â
It was because she was wearing a purple gown at that time. In that instant, Calvin thought of her as the little girl he imagined, and she could sense that.
Therefore, that hug was just one between her childhood self and âCal.â
âOkay, since you said you have no feelings for Calvin, I believe you. What about me, then? Would it be hard for you to fall in love with me again?â Jonathan straightened slightly, propping his hands on the edge of the bed and looking at her at almost eye level.
The distance between their faces suddenly diminished in a flash.
Rosalie looked at him in a daze. The man before her had a handsome face, a high forehead, chiseled features, a tall nose bridge, and sensual lips. Under his tapered brows, his eyes were sharp yet alluring.
Those eyes of his often gave off an extremely oppressive coldness. Yet they could also be charming enough to make a woman lose herself in them, as though her soul had been held captive.
As such, it would be not difficult at all to fall in love with a man like him.
If he hadnât been so indifferent to women, coupled with the fact that things ended badly for some of the women who deliberately approached him back then, he would have long since been surrounded by a bevy of women.
âFall in love with me, okay? Just like when we were together. Letâs get back together. Iâll love Even when the judicial police took her away, she looked at him coldly and said mockingly, âWarren, I hope you will also experience a time when you have no way of defending yourself one day.â
At the time, he had paid it no mind. He was convinced that she was just trying to make excuses for herself.
âAre you going back to the hotel now, Mr. York?â the driver in the front asked.
Warren was going to answer in affirmation, but the words at the tip of his tongue suddenly changed.
âHead to Ocean Street.â
âOcean Street?â The driver was startled.
âYes.â After saying that, Warren slowly closed his eyes and went silent.
The driver then turned around and drove in the direction of Ocean Street.
On Ocean Street, there were many stalls of various sizes at night. Many people would choose to go there for supper, but someone like Warren seemingly had nothing to do with such a place.
The driver inwardly wondered why Warren wanted to visit Ocean Street. He mused, âCould it be that he plans to go for supper after hearing much about the place?â
there you and spoil you. Whatever you want, Iâll give it to you. I wonât break up with you or hurt you ever again,â Jonathan said gently.
A man like him had never been so compliant to a woman.
She was the one and only exception.
In front of her, he could put his pride down and endure just to obtain her love again.
Rosalie only found it ridiculous. Once, she tried her best to forget him after their breakup. But right then, he was begging her to love him again in such a low voice.
âJonathan, do you really know what love is? If you can easily decide to love or unlove someone voluntarily, then it is not what real love is,â she murmured.
She smiled bitterly, her eyes fixed on him. âJust like now, I can say that I love you when I actually donât love you at all. Is that the answer you want?â
Jonathanâs gaze darkened all the more.
Love or hate could not be decided as easily as one liked. That was something he had known all too well. Or else, he would not loved her back then.
âI want you to love me, both with your words and your heart! Even if you donât love me right now, you will love me as much as you did in the past one day. I promise you this, Rosie!â he said rather aggressively.
His voice was full of resolution.
Meanwhile, Rosalie felt as though all the blood in her body had been frozen solid.
Inwardly, she thought, âIs that possible? Can I still love him as much as I did in the past? How can a broken relationship be restored back to how it was?â
As night fell, Warren got into the car and rubbed his forehead tiredly. He had discussed fighting for custody with a lawyer that day.
The lawyer he hired was naturally an expert in the field, and the other man analyzed the case with him before telling him that there was at least an eighty percent chance of winning the lawsuit.
Even if the child had been living with Amelia for several years, her biggest disadvantage was that she had been in prison. In reference to various cases in the past, a judge would be very likely to grant him custody.
Unexpectedly, the case back then became Warrenâs tool in fighting for custody. His eyes darkened when he thought of that certain case.
At the same time, his heart started aching again.
âStop hurting! Back then, I only did what I should have done when he appeared before the court to testify against Amelia. She was the one who viciously pushed Irene down the stairs. I merely told what I personally witnessed. She was guilty and. deserved to be punished! Because of that shove, not only did Irene lose her child, but she also lost her ability to have any more children. Therefore, itâs only natural to have Irene raise the child as her own! She should pay for the crime she had committed!â he said to himself soundlessly.
However, the scene where she insisted on being innocent in the courtroom seemed to be branded in his mind and would not go away.
Although Amelia was sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment in that case, she never pleaded guilty in court. When the judge read out her sentence in court in the end, she still insisted on not being guilty.
