Chapter 677
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
Even if she was low-key, she had to stand up and be strong for Ameliaâs sake. Otherwise, Irene would look down her nose on Amelia even more. A glint flashed across Ireneâs eyes, but she still insisted, âSure. I also want to know the truth!â
Rosalie ignored Irene and asked Amelia, âAmelia, can you stand?â
âNo problem.â Amelia forced a smile and stood up unsteadily.
Rosalie was going to hold Amelia steady, but Jonathan said, âLet me.â After that, he held one of Ameliaâs arms and walked toward the exit.
Warren narrowed his eyes slightly. He knew Jonathan had no feelings for Amelia and was only willing to help her because of Rosalie.
However, Warren still found the scene to be an eyesore.
Amelia ignored Warren as she passed him, not even sparing him a glance.
Warren pursed his thin lips into a straight line and stared at Ameliaâs back as she left.
Irene cast an unhappy glance at Warren. Uneasiness welled up within her at how focused he was on Ameliaâs back.
She thought angrily, âDoes he still have that bitch, Amelia, in his heart?â
However, it would not be long before she and Warren got married. By then, regardless of whether he still had Amelia in his heart or not, she wanted him to have only her in it.
After leaving the police station, Irene was still crying and complaining about how she was wronged.
âI just thought I should settle my previous grievances with Amelia since I would be raising Aiden in the future, but⦠she slapped me in the face. She caused me to miscarry and lose my child in the past and even treated me like this now. Donât I have the right to be angry? I didnât want to put you in a difficult position, so I wanted to reconcile with her. Yetâ¦â
Irene wept, looking pitiful, especially under the illumination of the street lamp. The light shining on her face made the imprint on her cheek look even more apparent.
As Warren stared at the mark on her face, images of Ameliaâs bruised face crossed his mind instead.
12:331 His gaze sharpened as he looked at Irene.
âW-Whatâs wrong?â Irene stuttered as guilt washed over her. She felt as if his eyes could see through her acts and thoughts.
âDo you really have nothing to do with those gangsters who made trouble today?â Warren asked in a deep voice.
Ireneâs heartbeat suddenly accelerated, but she still kept an aggrieved look on her face. âWarren, you also think Iâm involved? Do you also believe what that Rosalie woman said? She and Amelia are on the same side!â
Warren stared at Irene for a while and said, âIt doesnât matter. I can find out the truth the minute I look into it. Irene, Ameliaâs imprisonment was her punishment for the child you lost. I donât want to stir up any more trouble and be a laughingstock. Understand?â
Ireneâs heart was shocked. He was implying he knew she was the culprit behind the incident that morning but did not say it directly to save her dignity.
âI⦠understand.â Irene bit her red lips and lowered her head. A trace of envy was evident in her eyes.
She vowed silently, âOnce I become the matriarch of the York family, Iâll take my revenge against Amelia and that illegitimate child! Iâll make sure that child is ruined so that Amelia never has the chance to turn over!â
Rosalie and Jonathan accompanied Amelia to the hospital for an examination. Fortunately, Amelia only suffered some superficial injuries and nothing internal.
After sending Amelia back, Rosalie still had difficulty getting over her anger at Ireneâs despicable behavior.
âSay, do you think Amelia is comfortable handing Aiden to Warren? Once Warren and Irene get married, that woman will become Aidenâs stepmother,â Rosalie reminded.
âIâm sure she thought about it. All right, donât be angry anymore. Anger is not good for pregnant women,â Jonathan said.
âI just feel that itâs unfair for Amelia. Canât Warren see that Irene is acting?â Rosalie asked.
âMaybe he can, but still tolerates her. As far as I know, Warren got together with Irene at that time because he happened to be sick and needed a bone marrow transplant when the York family was down and 12:33 out. He then found a suitable donor for the transplant in the bone marrow bank,â Jonathan said.
âAnd that person turns out to be Irene?â Rosalie questioned.
âYeah.â Jonathan nodded. âIrene donated her bone marrow to Warren, and they got to know each other from there.â
âBut isnât this kind of donation random and confidential? How could they meet, then?â Rosalie was confused.
Jonathan said, âIrene had a boyfriend at that time, who was a doctor in the hospital Warren was staying. It seemed Irene met Warren through him. I just ran a general investigation on him when searching for the attending physicianâs whereabouts youâre looking for. I didnât ask for further investigation.â
âHave you heard anything about the attending physician yet?â Rosalie asked.
âA bit. We should be hearing from them soon,â Jonathan answered. âThatâs good.â Rosalieâs frown smoothened out slightly upon hearing the good news. âI hope we can find out the truth earlier and prove Ameliaâs innocence.â
âIs the truth so important?â Jonathan questioned abruptly.
âOf course it is!â Rosalie answered with certainty. âWonât you turn out like Warren, who canât tell black from white, if you are unaware of the truth for the rest of your life?â
âBut sometimes, knowing the truth may not be a good thing,â he argued as he glanced at her thoughtfully.
âIf it were me, Iâd rather know the truth than be fooled by illusions,â she said. That was why she went to the Faculty of Law and chose to become a lawyer.
Jonathan pursed his thin lips and dropped his gaze. He seemed to be shrouded by desolation.
âWhat? Do you think itâs bad for Warren to know the truth if Irene did indeed frame Amelia?â Rosalie asked, holding Jonathanâs face with her hands and meeting his gaze.
âNo, itâs good.â Jonathan smiled faintly and added, âIf Warren knew the truth, there might be changes in the custody decision.â
However, there were some truths that he hoped would stay hidden forever. Hopefully, they never see the light of day.
