Chapter 679
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
It felt like her armor had been shattered. Even if it was full of cracks, she refused to be belittled by this man.
âWhatâs wrong, Amelia?â Warrenâs voice sounded overhead.
âIâ¦â She wanted to tell him she was fine, but she almost bit her tongue.
She was trembling slightly, and beads of sweat on her brow slid down her cheek. Her face was so pale that even her lips were gray.
âIâm taking you to the hospital,â Warren announced. It was not the first time he had seen her in such pain.
He grabbed her arm as he spoke, but not as hard as before. He was even a little cautious, as if he was afraid that it would hurt her.
âNo, I donât need to go to the hospital,â Amelia said firmly.
âWhy wonât you go to the hospital in this state?â Warren demanded angrily.
âWhen have you become so sympathetic, Mr. York?â Amelia said after a while, taking a great deal of effort to do so. âWould it be so bad if I died in pain? Isnât that what you want? Arenât you always saying that I have to repay my fatherâs debt?â
He scowled, hard. âDo you want to die, Amelia?â
She did not want to die. On the contrary, she wanted to live. However, it was too difficult to do so.
Ameliaâs eyes flashed with gloom.
However, Warren felt his heart pricked by her dejection.
Shaking his head fiercely, he got rid of the pain in his heart and dragged her along as he opened the door.
As soon he opened it, they found Lucas standing on the other side with one of his hands raised as if he was about to ring the doorbell.
Warren stared at Lucas, narrowing his eyes. This man, he remembered, had been downstairs that day, exchanging a look with Amelia, who smiled at him for quite some time.
âYou twoâ¦â Lucas stared at the couple before him blankly, unable to grasp the situation for a moment.
Warren sneered. âWhy wouldnât you want me to take you to the hospital? Are you waiting at home for your lover? Here you are, saying that you want to stay with your son for another three months, but on the other 12:330 hand, couldnât wait for your lover to come. How shameless of you, Amelia!â
Amelia took a deep breath. âWhether or not Iâm shameless is none of your business, Warren.â
Warren raised his eyebrows. âDoes this man know that youâve been in prison?â he said with a faint smile. âDoes he know how you told me that you loved me and then climbed into my bed? Does he know-â
âMr. York! Mr. York, I presume?â Lucas interrupted Warren. âI-I donât know what kind of relationship you have with Amelia, but I think a man shouldnât say such things to a woman regardless!â
Warren glared at Lucas, who was trying hard to meet the formerâs gaze. âAmelia is a good woman. You shouldnât accuse her of such things!â
The way he said her name Amelia sounded particularly piercing to Warrenâs ears.
Amelia looked at Lucas gratefully before turning to Warren. âMy friend is here, Mr. York. Even if I need a trip to the hospital, it will be my friend who will take me. Thank you for offering.â
Lucas quickly caught on. âAh⦠Iâll take you to the hospital!â Then, he took Ameliaâs other arm and gazed at Warren. âLet go of Amelia, Mr. York, so I can take her to the hospital.â
Warren stared at Lucas. His grip around Ameliaâs arm was stiffer than ever.
Somehow, he had a feeling that his presence at that moment was excessive.
Thus, he slowly slackened his grip. âIâm going to lock the door and go to the hospital,â Amelia told Warren. âAre you planning on remaining here?â
Warren then walked out the door with a scowl. Amelia took the key and locked it.
Lucas held Amelia while Warren stared after them, clenching his teeth so hard that they began to hurt again.
âWhatâs so good about that man?â he thought vehemently. âWhat does Amelia see in him? Whatâs more, what man would dare want a woman that I, Warren York, had cast aside?â
Lucas got in the car with Amelia. âItâs all right,â Amelia said suddenly halfway along the journey. âYou donât have to take me to the hospital.â
âBut youâre not looking well. Youâd better go get yourself checked up,â
12:53 Lucas said.
âNo, really.â She shook her head. âAbout earlier⦠Thank you.â
âThe man is⦠Aidenâs father, I presume,â Lucas said. He noticed their resemblance.
âYes. In three months, I will give him full custody of Aiden and go back to our village with my mother. I count myself lucky to have met you, Rosalie, and Lillian in this city. Even after I go back home, I will remember you.â Amelia smiled, but her smile looked weak.
âAre you going back home?â Lucas was surprised.
âYes, weâre going back to our hometown to live a quiet life,â Amelia murmured. The upper part of the right side of her abdomen still throbbed.
Closing her eyes and gritting her teeth, she tried to endure the pain. Lucas studied the woman before him. She was weak but doing her best to endure her pain and thought how fragile yet strong she was.
Aiden called him that morning, saying that he had accidentally broken the toy he had gifted and mentioned that Amelia was hurt, which was why he took the time to visit. However, he did not expect to have run into this.
As he was an outsider, he thought it best not to get involved.
âAre you sure you donât need to go to the hospital?â Lucas was still a little worried.
âI know whatâs wrong with me, so I donât have to go,â Amelia answered weakly.
Matilda happened to be home while Amelia was taking medicine when Rosalie came to visit the latter.
Rosalie glanced at the boxes of medicine on the table, and her table, and her expression shifted subtly when she caught a glimpse of the name on the box.
Amelia was about to put away the medicine, but Rosalie was too quick. She picked one of them up and studied it carefully. âWhatâs wrong with you, Amelia?â she asked after a while. âTell me! Is this illness the reason. why you suddenly decided to give Warren custody of Aiden?â
Amelia remained silent.
Matildaâs eyes turned red. âWhy are you still trying to hide it at this point? You should tell Rosalie everything. Sheâs going to find out about it even if you try and keep it from her.â
