Chapter 724
The Ceo’s Convict Wife
The man had not the slightest clue about what his next step would be, much less the idea to ask for her forgiveness.
Meanwhile, Amelia and Matilda returned to their residence, and the former dismissed the two bodyguards sent by Jonathan. No longer did she need them guarding her at her place. After all, her house was already quite small. Having them stick around there would only be inappropriate for her.
After the two bodyguards left, Matilda sneakily leaned out of the window and saw Warrenâs car parked downstairs right in front of the condominium. Warren himself was standing by the vehicle, facing the building without budging an inch.
A pucker creased Matildaâs forehead on that note. âJust how long is this man going to stand there?â
âIgnore him, Mom. Itâs his business should he decide to stand there all day and night. This has nothing to do with us.â Amelia, for one, was calm.
âBut why did he suddenly become like this?â Matilda was confused. âDid he know that Irene had a miscarriage just to frame you? Is this why he came all the way here to apologize?â
After all, that video starring Irene had gone viral, so much so that even an elderly like Matilda learned all about it.
âThatâs merely one of the reasons. More importantly, he knew I was the one who donated bone marrow to him,â revealed Amelia.
âWhat did you say?â Matilda was shocked. She gritted her teeth even more on the heels of that. âSo, itâs him! I didnât think that he was that heartless jerk! You donated your bone marrow to save his life, but he was ungrateful to his very savior. To think that he would turn you away now that you needed a liver transplant!â
Thinking of that, Matilda was all ready to storm out the door to settle the score with Warren.
âMom!â Amelia grabbed her mother and stopped her. âDonât get angry. I donated bone marrow voluntarily. No one forced me to do so. Now, itâs only fair that the donor agrees to donate their liver willingly. We shouldnât play the blame game! Besides, even if I had liver transplantation, there was no guarantee that my condition would improve! Maybe after surgery, my body would reject the liver, and I might even end up living a shorter life, not to mention be bedridden for the remaining months.â
She hated Warren, regardless of whether he would donate his liver to her. She purely loathed the fact that Warren had forced her into a corner and even wanted to crush her very last dignity.
At that time, Amelia only felt like she was not even human in the manâs eyes. A 10.53 commodity to get on Ireneâs and the Fletcher familyâs good side was all she was deemed.
âMom, stay at home to cook dinner, will you? Iâll go pick Aiden up today,â
exhorted Amelia. âI donât have much time left in this world, so I might as well make it count.â
More than anything, she wanted to spend more time with her mother and son at the last moments.
âBut Warrenâs still downstairs. If you go downstairs, what if heâ¦â Matilda said worriedly.
âI donât think heâll do anything to me. Besides, there are some things we simply can never avoid even if we try. Best if we face them head-on.â said Amelia.
A sigh escaped Matilda. Not another peep came from her.
Amelia, in turn, took her medicine and packed up her things before she went downstairs.
As soon as she walked out of the condominium building, a shiver coursed through Warren as she came into sight. He bolted over and called out, âAmelia, I-â
âWarren York, I thought I made myself clear last time. Iâm going to pick Aiden up, so please get out of the way,â were her frosty words.
âI know I made so many mistakes!â Warrenâs voice was hoarse. âI know everything. You were innocent in that case back then. You didnât push Irene down the stairs. I trusted her too much to take her words for it, only to put you in jail. Iâm so sorryâ¦â
â
He might have apologized over and over again, but she only felt amused. From her perspective, it was pointless for him to say sorry after ruining her whole life.
âAmelia, you can hit me, scold me, and punish me all you want. But all I really want to do now is to make up for what I did wrong and protect you-â
âStop talking!â The woman interrupted him suddenly. âHow could you be so shameless to say such things? Back then, I told you time and again that I didnât push Irene, but you never believed me. And you believe me now, you say? You found out that Irene wasnât the one who saved your life, so you believed that I had been framed. I bet if it were her who donated bone marrow to you, youâd still insist on what Irene said was the hard truth!â
Warren was stumped, and for a moment there, he could not put forward a cutting retort.
âYouâre here to tell me all these, Warren, just to make yourself feel at ease. You threw me behind bars with your own hands. Aiden was born deaf also because I had a cold and fever at that time and was forced to take the cold medicine prohibited during pregnancy. Do you think you can ever make up for my time in prison? Could you possibly grant Aiden normal hearing?â
Her one-after-another interrogation made Warren stagger.
10-53 Amelia ended up in prison was purely the end of the manâs revenge. For Amelia, though, it was the beginning of her suffering.
What Warren did not know was that Aidenâs hearing was also connected to her imprisonment.
âWhat have I done?â he secretly lamented.
âYour so-called apology and compensation are nothing more than ridiculous ideas to me. You canât make up for anything!â As Amelia spoke, she was about to brush past the guy.
Warren suddenly grabbed her arm and held her tightly in his arms.
In an instant, she seemed to be engulfed by his breath.
The next second, she struggled desperately. âLet go of me! Warren!â
Never would he let the woman go. Not to her knowledge, he had longed to have her in his embrace.
In fact, over the years, he had always hoped that he could hug her like that and relive the best life they shared in the past.
The time they had together was like destiny, a gift from the heavens.
Even in his dreams, he would always see the images from the past.
After she was released from prison, she disappeared, and he desperately tried to scout her out. He said to himself that it was because his vengeance had yet to be exacted. Truth be told, it was an excuse he came up with so that he could see her again.
Irene kept throwing herself at him, not to mention hitting on him, both explicitly and implicitly. He was more than aware of what she was pulling the entire time. To deny the fear swelling inside, he would even get closer to Irene on purpose. He was afraid that he would still have feelings for Amelia and turn all softhearted for her. If anything, he was scared that he might not be able to reign in his desire and end up submitting to her.
Over the years, he had been contradicting himself that way. He was obviously worried about Amelia and cared about her so much, yet he compelled himself to give her the cold shoulder and even hurt her intentionally.
